If you're looking for some positives to take away from Heliot Ramos' 2023 campaign you'll first want to look at the .300/.382/.546 he slashed in 62 games at Triple-A Sacramento. It was a massive step up after he hit only .227/.305/.349 over 108 games there in 2022. Ramos also sported a robust 13.9 percent barrel rate during his brief time in the majors. The opportunities with the Giants were sporadic, though, and he finished with a .537 OPS and 33.3 percent strikeout rate. You could make a case for there being some post-hype sleeper appeal with Ramos, who is still just 24 years of age. That said, the results in the majors, while a small sample, have been ugly, and there's no guarantee of playing time in 2024.

  • Giants' Heliot Ramos: Stays hot in win

Ramos went 3-for-5 with one RBI in Friday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. Ramos logged multiple hits for the fourth time in the last five games. This was also his third time leading off in that span, and the first time he's been atop the order against a right-handed pitcher (Michael Lorenzen). Ramos is slashing .320/.416/.515 with five home runs, 20 RBI, 12 runs scored and one stolen base over 27 contests. As long as he's swinging a hot bat, it makes sense to have him at leadoff, especially since he's displayed improved plate discipline with a 13.2 percent walk rate this year.

  • Giants' Heliot Ramos: Gets on base six times

Ramos went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, four walks and a second run scored in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Getting on base six times will do wonders for the slash line, and Ramos' is at .304/.407/.511 after Wednesday's stellar performance. He has multiple hits in three of his last four contests and multiple walks in each of the last two games. The outfielder didn't have much of a track record in the majors over the last two years, but he's made the most of his opportunity in 2024 with five homers, 19 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base through 108 plate appearances. Ramos has earned a starting role in the corner outfield, effectively bumping Mike Yastrzemski over to center field to platoon with Austin Slater.

The Giants recalled Ramos from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. • Giants' Heliot Ramos: Starts, but losing work to Meckler

Ramos will start in left field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Rays, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Ramos is back in the lineup for the series finale, but he sat in both of the Giants' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers and may have moved into more of a part-time role in the wake of Wade Meckler's call-up to the big leagues. As a left-handed hitter, Meckler could occupy the large side of a platoon in center field with the righty-hitting Ramos, though the Giants will have room for both players in the outfield Wednesday while Blake Sabol shifts from left field to catcher in place of a resting Patrick Bailey. Ramos is hitting .250 with one home run and a 31.6 percent strikeout rate through his 38 big-league plate appearances this season.

The move clears a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster.
