  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Quality start in rookie duel

Schwellenbach came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Orioles, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

Matched up against fellow rookie hurler Cade Povich, Schwellenbach produced his first quality start in three trips to the mound for Atlanta, but the 24-year-old right-hander was on the hook for a loss until Matt Olson went deep in the top of the eighth inning. Schwellenbach may have earned himself a longer stay in the majors with Wednesday's performance, but he'll take a 6.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB through 15.2 big-league innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Tigers.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Set to start Wednesday

Schwellenbach is listed as Atlanta's starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Orioles in Baltimore.

He will be matched up against former college teammate Cade Povich in a battle between two of the top pitching prospects in both organizations. Schwellenbach hasn't looked sharp in his first two major-league outings, allowing a total of nine runs over 9.2 innings in losses to the Nationals and Red Sox. The young righty's future still looks bright, but he'll be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes Wednesday in a tough matchup.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Hit hard in Boston

Schwellenbach (0-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.

It was a tough day for Schwellenbach, who allowed three runs in the second inning and another three in the fifth en route to his second loss in as many starts. The 24-year-old right-hander has now allowed nine runs through his first 9.2 innings with Atlanta after pitching to a 2.21 ERA across eight starts between High-A Rome and Double-A Mississippi. If Atlanta elects to keep Schwellenbach in the majors for another turn in the rotation, he'd currently line up for a road matchup in Baltimore early next week.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Receiving another start

Schwellenbach is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The 24-year-old right-hander will be making his first career road start after he worked five innings and gave up three runs while taking a loss to the Nationals at Truist Park in his MLB debut last Wednesday. While making the jump from Double-A Mississippi to the big leagues, Schwellenbach acquitted himself reasonably well, as he spotted 60 of his 88 pitches for strikes while striking out five and scattering five hits and one walk. Atlanta is likely to monitor the rookie's workload carefully, but with only 48 innings under his belt between the majors and minors this season, Schwellenbach still has plenty of time to establish himself as a mainstay in the big-league rotation before the organization would consider shutting him down.

  • Braves' Spencer Schwellenbach: Defeated in big-league debut

Schwellenbach (0-1) took the loss against Washington on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings.

Schwellenbach got his first big-league opportunity despite having not pitched above the Double-A level in the minors. The right-hander was locked in through four scoreless frames, but had to settle for a so-so debut after Lane Thomas tagged him for a three-run homer in the fifth. Schwellenbach did show some positive traits with 60 of 88 pitches thrown for strikes and 11 whiffs, and there's a good chance he fared well enough to earn at least one more turn in the rotation.
