• Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Stays in rotation

  Curry is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Curry will make his second straight turn through the rotation after he previously picked up his fourth start of the season with the Guardians -- and his first since May 27 -- on Tuesday against the Tigers. Since he had been building up as a starter at Triple-A Columbus prior to getting plugged into the big-league rotation coming out of the All-Star break, Curry had light workload limitations in place Tuesday, when he took a no-decision after giving up two earned runs over 4.1 innings and 62 pitches. Curry should be capable of working deeper into Sunday's contest, though it will be contingent on him keeping a potent Phillies lineup at bay.

• Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Goes 4.1 innings in start

  Curry didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over 4.1 innings. He struck out one batter. Curry held Detroit off the board through his first three innings before surrendering a two-run homer to Wenceel Perez in the fourth. The 25-year-old Curry's logged a mediocre 4.98 ERA over 21.2 innings in the majors this season with a 1.25 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB, though he was impressive with Triple-A Columbus while posting a 2.21 ERA in his last four minor-league outings. Curry could remain in the Guardians rotation until Matthew Boyd (elbow) is ready to to be activated from the injured list. Curry currently lines up for a tough road matchup with the Phillies this weekend.

• Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Joining rotation Tuesday

  Curry is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Tigers in Cleveland. Curry will enter the rotation as a replacement for Spencer Howard, who took the hill the last time the Guardians required a fifth starter July 11. Howard has since been designated for assignment, but Curry may prove to be just a stopgap in the rotation until Matthew Boyd (elbow) returns from the injured list, or until the Guardians see enough improvement at Triple-A Columbus from struggling starters Triston McKenzie or Logan Allen to bring either back to the big leagues. Curry has previously made three starts for Cleveland this season, turning in a 5.68 ERA and 8:3 K:BB in 12.2 innings over those outings.

Curry was shelled for six earned runs in 3.1 innings during his last outing Monday, and the return of Eli Morgan (shoulder) from the injured list will leave the former as the odd man out of Cleveland's pitching staff. The 25-year-old Curry owns a 5.68 ERA through three starts in the majors and has performed even worse in Triple-A (8.79 ERA), though he still could return to Cleveland this year if a spot opens up in the big-league rotation.

Curry started nine of his 41 appearances last season and stayed in the majors for the whole season since the Guardians' rotation was plagued by injuries. He was solid with a 4.07 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 67:30 K:BB over 95 innings. Curry won't be much of a fantasy option out of the bullpen given his low strikeout numbers, but there's no clear path to the rotation for now.

Curry's two walks loaded the bases, and LaMonte Wade's sacrifice fly was enough for the Giants to walk it off in the 10th inning. This was Curry's second consecutive relief appearance. The right-hander has pitched to a 4.10 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 61:26 K:BB through 85.2 innings over 36 appearances (nine starts) this season. There's currently no room for him in Cleveland's rotation, and with Shane Bieber (elbow) still a possibility to return before the end of the year, Curry will likely remain in the bullpen.

The Guardians are expected to get Triston McKenzie (elbow) and Shane Bieber (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list later this month, so Curry may not have a path back to the rotation even if Cleveland loses another starting pitcher to an injury at some point in September.

  Curry was charged with five runs on six hits and two walks over five-plus innings Friday, taking a no-decision in a 9-8 loss to the Rays. He struck out one. Curry retired the side in order each of the first two innings but then labored in the third as the Rays sent eight men to the plate and scored three runs. He bounced back with a scoreless fourth and fifth, but a double ahead of an Isaac Paredes two-run homer in the sixth ended his night. In addition to just one strikeout, Curry managed only two whiffs among 70 pitches. He could get another start as the Guardians continue to patch together their rotation around numerous injuries, but fantasy managers can probably do better.

  Curry didn't factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the White Sox after allowing two runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out four. Curry turned in an efficient effort, worked through five innings on just 65 pitches (45 strikes). He allowed a pair of runs in the opening inning before dealing four scoreless frames and exiting with a 3-2 lead before the White Sox rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth. A reliever for most of the season, Curry has now made four starts and appears likely to stick in the rotation while Cal Quantrill (shoulder), Triston McKenzie (elbow) and Shane Bieber (elbow) are all sidelined for the foreseeable future. Overall, Curry is 3-1 with an impressive 2.95 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 45:17 K:BB across 64 innings this season. His next start is expected to come in a tough road matchup with the Rays next weekend.
