  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Suffers fourth loss

Quantrill (2-4) took the loss Monday against the Cubs, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings with one strikeout. The Miami right-hander was cruising through four scoreless innings before unraveling in the fifth during this 83-pitch effort. In the fifth frame, Quantrill conceded three runs on three hits, including a Dansby Swanson two-run long ball. Across 36 total innings, Quantrill has pitched to an unsightly 7.00 ERA and 1.72 WHIP while failing to earn a quality start in any of his eight outings. He currently lines up to make his next start against the Cubs again but at home next week.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Stingy in no-decision

Quantrill came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Dodgers, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six. After getting tagged for 15 runs in 12.2 innings over his prior three starts, Quantrill bounced back in impressive fashion. The right-hander didn't allow a runner to get into scoring position after the first inning, leaving the mound after tossing 53 of 79 pitches for strikes. He'll carry a 7.11 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Cubs.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Falls to Los Angeles

Quantrill (2-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk across 3.2 innings. He struck out three. After pitching a clean first inning, Quantrill gave up a two-out, solo homer to Max Muncy in the second before the Dodgers tacked on three more runs in the third. The 30-year-old Quantrill has given up four or more runs in four of his first six starts this season. His ERA is up to 8.10 with a 1.80 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 26.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Season-high five Ks in second win

Quantrill (2-2) picked up the win Friday against the Mariners after allowing four runs on five hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out five. Although the soft-throwing right-hander did induce 12 whiffs while not yielding a walk, he struggled with his command a bit Friday. Quantrill gave up two home runs, a second-inning solo shot to Dylan Moore and a three-run jack to Jorge Polanco in the sixth. Quantrill holds a poor 7.83 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB over 23 innings in 2025, so he won't be a recommended fantasy option in his next scheduled start on the road versus the Dodgers.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Pummeled in Philly

Quantrill (1-2) took the loss Saturday, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 3.1 innings as the Marlins were downed 11-10 by the Phillies. He failed to strike out a batter. The right-hander did manage to keep the ball in the yard, marking his third straight start without allowing a homer, but that provided only the faintest of silver linings to a brutal outing. Quantrill got the hook after 89 pitches (56 strikes), and he'll carry an 8.31 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and 8:9 K:BB through 17.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Seattle.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Goes five innings in no-decision

Quantrill didn't factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Nationals. He allowed three runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two over five innings. Quantrill gave up one walk over his first two starts, but his command of the strike zone was off Sunday as he issued five free passes. He managed to limit the damage to three runs despite allowing 12 baserunners but came away with a no-decision. Quantrill has begun the season with a 5.79 ERA and 1.79 WHIP across 14 innings, and his next start is slated for next weekend on the road against the Phillies.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Blanks Cards in Sunday's start

Quantrill gave up one hit and two walks over three scoreless innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He struck out one. The 30-year-old right-hander has been scuffling this spring, but he looked a little more comfortable Sunday as he built up to 43 pitches (23 strikes). Quantrill is ticketed for a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation, but his 9.45 ERA and 3:4 K:BB through 6.2 spring innings don't offer much optimism that he'll be a useful arm for fantasy purposes. Over the last two seasons for Cleveland and Colorado, he's stumbled to a 5.08 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 48 starts.

  • Marlins' Cal Quantrill: Rough spring debut for Miami

Quantrill coughed up four runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He struck out one. Most of the damage came on a three-run blast by Nolan Arenado, as Quantrill failed to get out of the first inning. The veteran right-hander tossed only 13 of his 28 pitches for strikes in his first spring game action, and while he is still seen as a lock for the Marlins' Opening Day rotation after signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal earlier in February, his hold on the spot could slip quickly if he keeps struggling in camp.

  • Cal Quantrill: Hits free agency

The Rockies non-tendered Quantrill on Friday. The Rockies will pass on a second year with Quantrill after the 29-year-old turned in a 4.98 ERA and 1.52 WHIP last season. He'll now attempt to latch on with another organization in free agency, though many teams may be turned away by his 5.04 ERA when pitching away from Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Thumped by Dodgers

Quantrill (8-11) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings as the Rockies were routed 11-4 by the Dodgers. He failed to strike out a batter. A two-run homer by Teoscar Hernandez in the first inning and a solo shot by Andy Pages in the fourth were the big blows off Quantrill, as the right-hander saw his season end with his worst outing since July 30. His first campaign with the Rockies was predictably turbulent, but Quantrill gave the team 29 starts and 148.1 innings while posting a 4.98 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 110:69 K:BB. He's headed for a raise this offseason in his final year of arbitration eligibility, so it's possible Colorado attempts to move him rather than pay him what could be eight figures to fill a rotation spot.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Activated for Sunday's start

Quantrill (tricep) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday against the Cubs. The right-hander has been sidelined since late August due to a tricep injury, but he's ready to rejoin Colorado's rotation after a brief stay on the injured list. Quantrill has a 6.06 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB in 35.2 innings across seven starts since the All-Star break.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Trending toward Sunday return

Quantrill (triceps) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Cubs at Coors Field, MLB.com reports. Quantrill was placed on the IL with right triceps inflammation on Sept. 1, one day after he was scratched from his scheduled start against the Orioles. He looks like he'll be ready to return to action in close to the minimum 15 days, and he didn't require a rehab assignment after the Rockies were encouraged by how the right-hander fared during his throwing program. That being said, manager Bud Black suggested that Quantrill will have his workload monitored carefully Sunday, with 70-to-85 pitches floated as a rough estimate.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Scratched from Sunday's start

Quantrill will not start in Sunday's series finale against the Orioles due to right triceps inflammation, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Quantrill made his last start Tuesday against the Marlins, when he allowed four runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two across 5.2 innings in a no-decision. The 29-year-old right-hander has struggled over his seven starts since the All-Star break, posting a 2-2 record with a 6.06 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 25:18 K:BB over 35.2 innings. It's unclear whether the triceps injury will keep him out of his next start, which is pencilled in for Sept. 7 against the Brewers. Southpaw Ty Blach will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and start Sunday.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: In line to start Friday

Quantrill (forearm) is scheduled to make his next start Friday against the Padres at Coors Field, MLB.com reports. Quantrill had previously been lined up to take the hill for Monday's series opener versus the Diamondbacks, but he was pushed back in the pitching schedule after experiencing soreness at the top of his right forearm coming out of his most recent start Aug. 4 in San Diego. The right-hander said that he was able to resume throwing Saturday, so assuming he's able to make it out of a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday no worse for the wear, he shouldn't face any restrictions when he toes the rubber Friday in Colorado.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Earns seventh victory

Quantrill (7-7) earned the win Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. Quantrill was stingy Wednesday and got more than enough run support in an eventual 20-7 Rockies victory. It marks the 29-year-old Quantrill's first win since June 11, though he's now turned in back-to-back quality starts. His ERA sits at 4.09 through 21 starts (114.1 innings) this season with a 1.34 WHIP and 86:43 K:BB. Quantrill's tentatively lined up to face the Angels at home in his next outing.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Hit hard by Cincy

Quantrill (6-7) took the loss Tuesday as the Rockies fell 12-6 to the Reds, giving up five runs on four hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out four. Three of the four hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including homers by Tyler Stephenson and Will Benson in the second inning. Quantrill has been taken deep five times in his last two road starts, so even being away from Coors Field isn't offering much of a respite for him. Over his last five outings he's saddled with a 6.94 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 22:9 K:BB through 23.1 innings. Quantrill will try to turn things around in his last start before the All-Star break, which is scheduled to come on the road against the Mets this weekend.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Logs quality start

Quantrill did not factor into the decision in a win over the Nationals on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings while striking out five. Most of the damage against Quantrill came in the third when CJ Abrams tagged him for a leadoff double to open the inning before then advancing to third on a balk. The right-hander would go on to surrender two runs in the frame before later giving up a leadoff homer to Abrams in the fifth, though the former was still able to get through six innings for the seventh time in his last 10 starts. Quantrill has given up three or fewer runs in four consecutive outings, though he's also allowed seven hits in each of his last two.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Another scoreless start

Quantrill (6-4) picked up the win Tuesday against Minnesota, allowing three hits and one walk with five strikeouts across six scoreless innings. Quantrill has gone 11 straight innings without allowing a run and issued fewer than two walks for the first time in four starts. The 29-year-old didn't yield an extra-base hit Tuesday and didn't let a runner get past second base, qualifying for his sixth quality start in his last eight outings. While his strikeout stuff has been hit-or-miss, Quantrill owns a 6-1 record and a 1.91 ERA since the start of May. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Dodgers at Coors Field on Monday. Quantrill allowed four runs in 4.1 innings when he faced the Dodgers in Los Angeles on June 1.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Falls to Dodgers

Quantrill (4-4) allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out one over 4.1 innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Dodgers. Quantrill had logged five straight quality starts, but this was always going to be a tough matchup, even away from Coors Field. The Dodgers got to him for two runs in the second inning and never looked back. Quantrill has still put together a respectable first season with the Rockies, posting a 3.84 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 50:25 K:BB over 68 innings across 12 starts. His 3.3 BB/9 is still a holdover concern from last year, and he'll never be one to strike out a lot of batters, but he's generally been reliable. Quantrill's next start is projected to be at St. Louis.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Wins with quality start

Quantrill (4-3) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Phillies. Quantrill held the Phillies off the scoreboard through three frames before giving up a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. He forced 18 whiffs, blowing by his previous season high of 12. Quantrill produced his fifth straight quality start, going 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA during that span. Prior to this hot streak, he was 0-3 with a 5.34 ERA to begin the year. Quantrill now owns a 3.53 ERA and a 49:23 K:BB through 63.2 innings. He's now in line for a tough road matchup with the Dodgers next weekend.
