Rockies' Matt Carasiti: Cut from big-league camp
The Rockies reassigned Carasiti to minor-league camp Monday.
Carasiti posted a 6.29 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 24.1 innings out of the Colorado bullpen in 2023 before he was moved off the 40-man roster in October. He returned to the Rockies on a minor-league deal in February and made a strong case for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen after striking out 10 over eight scoreless frames in Cactus League play, but Carasiti seemed to get caught up in a numbers game. Assuming he doesn't opt out of his minor-league deal, the 32-year-old right-hander is likely to remain in the organization as bullpen depth at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Rockies' Matt Carasiti: Back in Colorado as NRI
Carasiti signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Jan. 29 that includes an invitation to spring training.
Carasiti was roughed up to the tune of a 6.29 ERA and 16:11 K:BB across 24.1 frames for the Rockies last season, but they saw enough promise in him to bring him back. The 32-year-old reliever figures to open the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Carasiti was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Game 2 of the Rockies' doubleheader with the Giants.
Carasiti will join Colorado after they defeated San Francisco 9-5 in the day game. The right-hander will replace Karl Kauffmann in the bullpen as the latter heads to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Carasiti has produced an inflated 7.06 ERA over 21.2 innings in 14 appearances with the Rockies this year.

Rockies' Matt Carasiti: Earns first save
Carasiti picked up a save in the Rockies' 4-3 extra-inning win over the Red Sox on Monday. He allowed an unearned run on one hit in his lone inning of relief.
Carasiti allowed the "ghost runner" to score in the 10th inning but still closed out the narrow win. He's turned in 13 consecutive frames without allowing an earned run after getting tagged with six runs in his season debut May 21. He lowered his ERA to 3.86 with a 7:6 K:BB through 14 innings.

Colorado selected the contract of Carasiti from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.
Carasiti will have a chance to appear in an MLB game for the first time since he was a member of the Mariners in 2019. The right-hander will be a middle-innings option for the Rockies while he's with the club, and Fernando Abad has been designated for assignment to make room for Carasiti on both the 40-man and active roster.

The Giants released Carasiti from his minor-league contract Sunday.
After making 11 appearances in the big leagues with Seattle in 2019, Carasiti missed the entire 2020 and 2021 campaigns while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He joined the Giants on a minor-league deal over the winter and has generally enjoyed good health while pitching exclusively at Triple-A Sacramento, but the 30-year-old's poor results (8.31 ERA, 2.08 WHIP in 21.2 innings) prompted the organization to move on.

Carasiti joined the Red Sox on a minor-league deal last year but spent the entire season on the injured list after he underwent Tommy John surgery in March of 2020. Carasiti was hurt during Thursday's spring league game against the Indians. The 28-year-old forkball specialist was off to a promising start to camp and had a great chance to win a bullpen role for the Giants, according to Baggarly. Carasiti hopes to have made a positive enough impression on the San Francisco organization to get another shot to make the roster provided that he has a smooth recovery.
