Chalmers signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training.

Chalmers remains in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put a waiver claim in for the right-hander when the Cubs designated him for assignment Friday. Chalmers was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The 24-year-old was claimed off waivers by Chicago last weekend but was removed from the 40-man roster before making an appearance for his new organization. Chalmers has a 9.49 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 13:15 K:BB across 12.1 innings at Double-A this season.

Chalmers was designated for assignment by the Twins at the end of May after he posted a 9.49 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 12.1 innings across five appearances (two starts) with Double-A Wichita. He's been assigned to Double-A Tennessee to begin his time with his new organization.

Chalmers was sent to the minors in mid-March and posted a 9.49 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 12.1 innings across five appearances (two starts) for Double-A Wichita to begin the year. He'll now be cast off the 40-man roster to make room for right-hander Juan Minaya, whose contract was selected in a corresponding move.

Twins' Dakota Chalmers: Dispatched to minor-league camp
The Twins optioned Chalmers to minor-league camp Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Along with Chalmers, fellow pitchers Bailey Ober, Jhoan Duran and Jordan Balazovic were also optioned as Minnesota made its first cuts of spring training. After losing a year of development time due to the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season, Chalmers will likely report to Double-A Wichita or Triple-A St. Paul to begin 2021 despite having pitched only 21.1 innings at the High-A level in 2021.

Twins' Dakota Chalmers: Added to 60-man player pool
Chalmers was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports.
Chalmers was optioned to Double-A Pensacola shortly before spring training was shut down down due to the pandemic. He'll likely spend the season at Minnesota's alternate training site, but could be called up when the Twins need bullpen depth even though he's thrown just 21.1 innings above Low-A.

This protects him from the Rule 5 draft. Chalmers has a special arm, but his command has always been well below average, so he will likely end up in the bullpen long term. He logged a 4.95 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB in 20 innings (seven appearances) in the Arizona Fall League. Chalmers will likely spend most, if not all, of 2020 pitching in the upper levels of the minors.

Chalmers (elbow) reported to High-A Fort Myers on Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Chalmers, who was acquired from the A's in exchange for Fernando Rodney last season, hasn't pitched competitively since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of 2018. The 22-year-old right-hander owns a career 4.08 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 137:91 K:BB in 121.1 innings across three levels in the minors.

Chalmers stepped away from baseball for a personal issue in late May, Justin Perline of Baseball America reports.
Chalmers was reassigned to Low-A Vermont in early June and is expected back fairly soon, although nothing specific has been announced. Opponents were batting only .155 against the right-hander at High-A Beloit this season, but he illustrated major control issues with 29 walks and five hit batsmen over 29 innings pitched.

Chalmers, 19, has a 3.57 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB in 35.1 innings with short-season Vermont.
A third-round pick in last year's draft, Chalmers has quickly emerged as one of the more intriguing arms in a weak A's farm system. He has a nice projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame and is a strong breakout candidate for 2017 once he is assigned to a full-season affiliate.
