  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Strikes out 10 in win

Lugo (7-1) earned the win Saturday over the Athletics, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings.

Lugo was able to limit the damage to a two-run home run by Seth Brown in the second inning. This was Lugo's second straight start with double-digit strikeouts, though he came up one out short of a fifth straight quality start. The right-hander is now at a 1.79 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 58:13 K:BB through 65.1 innings over 10 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road against the Rays.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Dominant in win

Lugo (6-1) allowed one run on five hits while striking out 12 and walking none over eight innings to earn the win over the Angels on Sunday.

Quality of opponent aside, Lugo was excellent Sunday. He landed 77 of his 112 pitches for strikes and recorded double-digit strikeouts for the first time this season. It was also his first start without issuing a walk. The right-hander is now at a 1.66 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 48:12 K:BB through 59.2 innings over nine starts. Lugo's had good moments both as a starter and a reliever in his career, but his start to 2024 is a completely new level for the 34-year-old. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Settles in after shaky start

Lugo didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Milwaukee, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out five.

Lugo gave up a hit and a walk in the first frame, then surrendered back-to-back homers to start the second. After that, however, Lugo retired nine straight batters and kept the Brewers off the scoreboard until the seventh inning. He was seemingly set up for his sixth win of the season with the Royals up 5-3 heading into the ninth, but Willy Adames took Lugo out of contention for the W with a go-ahead three-run home run. Lugo has pitched at least six innings in seven of his eight starts, and he's gone into the seventh five times. He's scheduled to make his next start Sunday against the Angels.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Fans eight in fifth win

Lugo (5-1) picked up the win Wednesday in a 6-1 victory over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

The 34-year-old right-hander generated an impressive 35 called or swinging strikes over 101 pitches as he baffled Toronto hitters. The quality start was Lugo's sixth in seven trips to the mound, and the two-year, $30 million contract he signed in December is looking like an absolute bargain for the Royals. Lugo will take a 1.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB through 45 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Brewers.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Fans nine over seven scoreless

Lugo (4-1) earned the win Friday in Detroit after he struck out nine and allowed three hits and two walks across seven scoreless innings.

The right-hander generated 13 swinging strikes on 103 pitches as he and Detroit starter Reese Olson combined to give up just one run in 14 frames. The swing-and-miss stuff from Lugo was a step in the right direction after he posted a 4.1 K/9 through his first five starts of the season. The beginning of Lugo's tenure in Kansas City couldn't have gone much better though, as he has a 1.66 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 38 innings.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Tagged with four runs

Lugo (3-1) allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Orioles.

Lugo stumbled in the third inning when he allowed back-to-back homers to Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg. The Orioles later put two more runs on Lugo's line in the sixth. It was his shortest outing of the season and his lowest strikeout total. He'd given up just three earned runs through 25.2 innings prior to Sunday's hiccup. Lugo still owns a terrific 2.03 ERA across five starts. He's projected to take the mound in Detroit for his next appearance.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Brilliant again in win

Lugo (3-0) earned the win Monday, allowing no runs, four hits and one walk over seven innings against the White Sox. He struck out four.

Lugo looked to be in complete control against a weak White Sox lineup as he scattered four singles and issued only one walk Monday night. The 34-year-old right-hander has been splendid to start the year, posting a 1.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB over his first 25.2 innings. Lugo is currently scheduled to make his next start against Baltimore at home.
