Player Outlook
It might surprise you to learn that, among players with at least 500 plate appearances over the last two seasons, only four have a higher batting average than Harold Ramirez's .306 mark. The 29-year-old has hit .300 in each of his two seasons in Tampa Bay and has done so thanks in large part due to his ability to crush left-handed pitching, as he torched southpaws to the tune of a .345/.385/.486 batting line over that span. Ramirez sports a more pedestrian .279/.322/.401 line versus righties during that time, giving the Rays all the excuse they need to limit his exposure against same-handed hurlers. He cracked a career-high 12 home runs in 2023, but Ramirez's heavy groundball tendencies (54.5 percent) and inconsistent playing time make him mostly a batting average specialist.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Lone source of offense

Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run batted in during Monday's 7-3 loss to the Angels. Ramirez provided all three of Tampa Bay's runs, plating Jose Siri on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning before launching a two-run homer off Matt Moore in the eighth. The long ball was Ramirez's first of 2024, and just his second extra-base hit through 62 at-bats. In 15 games, Ramirez is slashing .258/.258/.323 with nine runs scored.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Heads to bench Wednesday

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Ramirez will see his streak of seven consecutive starts come to an end Wednesday as the Rays roll with Austin Shenton at designated hitter and Randy Arozarena and Richie Palacios as their starters in the corner outfield. Through his first seven games of April, Ramirez has hit .367 with five RBI and five runs.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Getting on track

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Rockies. Ramirez has benefitted from the absence of Jonathan Aranda (finger) early this season, as he's been in the lineup in seven of the first eight games. He started the campaign slowly with only one hit across his first 17 at-bats, though he now has a three-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 6-for-13 with two runs scored and two RBI.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Not in lineup Monday

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Monday's game versus the Rangers. Ramirez started all four games against the Blue Jays in the designated hitter spot, but he'll begin Monday's tilt on the bench. Yandy Diaz is receiving a day at DH while Austin Shenton handles first base.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Could get early at-bats

Ramirez is expected to see more playing time with Jonathan Aranda (finger) sidelined, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Aranda was in line for a large-side platoon role at DH with some possibility of getting additional at-bats at first base. However, he's now going to be sidelined for at least a month, leaving Ramirez to slide into the vacated playing time. Ramirez is a viable contributor when he gets regular opportunity, as he posted a .313/.353/.460 line across 434 plate appearances last season.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Loses arbitration case

Ramirez lost his arbitration hearing and will earn $3.8 million in 2024, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Ramirez is in his third year of arbitration eligibility and will see a $1.6 million increase in his salary from 2023. He has earned over 400 plate appearances in each of the last two seasons, though he'll face competition from Jonathan Aranda for playing time in 2024.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Homers, reaches three times

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Blue Jays. Ramirez singled in his first two at-bats and came around to score Tampa Bay's second run of the game on a Josh Lowe double in the third. The outfielder then launched a two-run shot in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4, marking just his third home since June 8. Ramirez has now recorded multiple hits in two of his last four games, driving in four runs over that stretch.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Blasts 10th home run

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's victory over the Mariners. Ramirez went yard in the seventh inning off Isaiah Campbell to give the Rays a lead they never conceded. This was his first home run since June 8, ending a drought that lasted 190 plate appearances, and his 10th of the year. Ramirez has reached double-digit homers for the second time in his career after first achieving the feat in his 2019 rookie season with the Marlins.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Back on bench Tuesday

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the Rays' 7-3 loss in the series opener, but he'll be back on the bench Tuesday with right-hander Kutter Crawford taking the hill for Boston. The righty-hitting Ramirez is expected to continue seeing most of his starts at designated hitter against left-handed pitching.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Collects four hits against Angels

Ramirez went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs and four RBI in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader split against the Angels. Ramirez appeared as a pinch hitter and grounded out in his only plate appearance in Game 1 before tallying a season-high four hits in Game 2. Among those knocks were a two-run double in the sixth inning and a two-run single in the eighth. Ramirez has been swinging a scorching stick of late, going 13-for-24 (.542) with three extra-base hits and eight RBI over his past six contests.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Three hits in win

Ramirez went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 8-0 win over the Tigers. Ramirez is quietly batting .290 this season to go along with nine homers, four steals, 38 RBI and 37 runs scored. The Rays' roster is crowded and he often finds himself out of the starting lineup against right-handed pitchers, but he's not in a strict platoon role. Curtis Mead's promotion creates even more competition for playing time, but Ramirez should continue to start roughly four days per week.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: On bench again Sunday

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Even though the Rays will play without Josh Lowe (personal) for the second straight day to close out their first-half slate, Ramirez will remain relegated to a bench role Sunday. Ramirez has started in only two of the Rays' last six games and appears to be stuck in the short side of a platoon at designated hitter.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Inconsistent playing time

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Ramirez drew a start with Brandon Pfaadt on the mound, though he's been in the lineup for just 12 of the Rays' last 22 games against right-handed pitching. Without injuries to other regulars in the lineup, Ramirez most often splits time with Luke Raley -- the duo have appeared in the lineup together only seven times in that same 22-game span -- with Raley drawing the larger portion of playing time. Ramirez's struggles to get on the field consistently are a sign of the team's depth, as he has maintained a 129 wRC+ and .349 wOBA across 234 plate appearances on the season.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Three hits in Sunday's win

Ramirez went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and one RBI in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Rangers. Ramirez has logged three multi-hit efforts, three steals and seven RBI through seven contests in June. The 28-year-old is a lock to be in the lineup versus southpaws, but he's also served as the designated hitter versus three of the last six right-handers the Rays have faced. Ramirez has earned the added playing time with a .306/.351/.517 slash line overall, which includes a solid .269/.327/.440 line against righties. He's added nine home runs, 30 RBI, 28 runs scored and a career-high four steals over 194 plate appearances.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Sleeper hitters for Week 12 (June 12-18)

Harold Ramirez's impact potential is limited because he doesn't play quite every day, but he seems to be heating up again, batting .366 (15 for 41) with two homers over his past 10 games. The Rays, meanwhile, have the third-best hitter matchups this week.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Propels Rays with two-run homer

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 4-2 win over Minnesota. Ramirez topped off a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run shot to center field, giving Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead. The designated hitter has now tallied six RBI over his last five games despite going hitless in his previous two and remains a steady contributor in the Rays' lineup. The home run was his ninth of the season, putting him well on pace to smash his previous season high of 11 back in 2019.

Randy Arozarena is the designated hitter against the Twins on Wednesday with Manuel Margot getting a start in right field.

  • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Takes seat for series finale

Ramirez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. • Rays' Harold Ramirez: Late addition to lineup

Ramirez is batting fourth as the designated hitter Sunday against the Red Sox, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. The 28-year-old was initially absent from Tampa Bay's lineup for Sunday, but he was added shortly before first pitch with Brandon Lowe being a late scratch for unspecified reasons. Ramirez was productive in Saturday's doubleheader, going 5-for-8 with two doubles, two runs, four RBI and a stolen base.
