Stanek earned the win in Thursday's 10-3 victory over the Rangers in Game 3 of the ALCS, throwing two-thirds of an inning. Stanek required minimal effort to secure a win, throwing a single pitch to induce a double play to end the inning. The team would then go on to stack up four runs to break the tie in the following inning, leaving Stanek with the decision. Stanek is now up to three wins for his career in the postseason, during which he has pitched to a robust 2.00 ERA and 0.72 WHIP with 20 strikeouts across 18 innings.... See More ... See Less

Astros' Ryne Stanek: Makes postseason debut
Stanek (personal), who was activated from the paternity list Saturday, made his first appearance of the postseason Sunday in the Astros' 6-2 loss to the Twins in Game 2 of the ALDS, giving up one earned run on two hits over 1.1 innings. Stanek was placed on the paternity list ahead of the Astros' final three games of the regular season and finished the 2023 campaign with a 4.09 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB across 50.2 innings. He'll likely continue to serve in a middle-innings role out of the bullpen for the duration of Houston's postseason run.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Goes on paternity leave
Houston placed Stanek on the paternity list Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Stanek will miss at least a portion of the Astros' final regular-season series against the Diamondbacks as he welcomes a new addition to his growing family. Seth Martinez has been called up in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Back from IL
The Astros reinstated Stanek (ankle) from the 15-day injured list Friday. Stanek was placed on the injured list Sept. 5 with a right ankle sprain after having to be carted off the field the day before. Since then, he's pitched a scoreless inning with Triple-A Sugar Land and is now ready to return to Houston's bullpen as a middle reliever. Joel Kuhnel was optioned to Sugar Land in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Ready for rehab assignment
Stanek (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Stanek landed on the injured list earlier this month with a sprained ankle, but he has made good progress since and is ready to resuming pitching in games. If all goes well Tuesday, he could be activated Wednesday when first eligible, or shortly thereafter.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Throwing bullpen session
Stanek (ankle) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Stanek landed on the 15-day injured list after spraining his right ankle early last week, but it's looking like he'll have a shot to return when his 15 days are up. He holds a 4.07 ERA and 49:21 K:BB over 48.2 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Exits with ankle injury
Stanek suffered a right ankle injury during his relief appearance in Monday's game against the Rangers, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports. He failed to record an out and surrendered one earned run on two hits prior to his departure. Stanek went down hard after covering first base, and he was eventually carted off the field. The Astros will likely re-evaluate him after the game before providing a diagnosis of his injury, but if Stanek is forced to miss significant time, it would be a significant loss to the Houston bullpen. He's posted a 1.86 ERA and 0.62 WHIP with a 9:0 K:BB over his last 10 appearances heading into Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Reinstated by Astros
Stanek was activated from the family medical emergency list Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Stanek had been away from the Astros since last weekend while tending to family matters. He returns to a 4.57 ERA and 21:14 K:BB over 21.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Placed on bereavement list
Houston placed Stanek on the family medical emergency list Saturday, Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle reports. Astros' Ryne Stanek: Avoids arbitration
Stanek signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with Houston on Friday to avoid arbitration, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. In his final year of arbitration eligibility, Stanek receives a healthy raise from his $2.1 million salary last season. The 31-year-old reliever was impressive out of the bullpen in 2022, posting a miniscule 1.15 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 54.2 innings with 17 holds.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Earns first win
Stanek (1-0) allowed a walk in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win Monday against the Royals. Stanek entered the game in the ninth inning with the score knotted at six and earned his first win of the season when Yordan Alvarez homered in the bottom of the frame. Stanked turned in his 24th consecutive scoreless appearance and has maintained a 24:9 K:BB across 20 innings in that span. Stanek has an excellent 0.67 ERA with eight holds on the season, though he is likely to be limited to a setup role.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Throws clean frame
Stanek did not allow a baserunner or strike out any hitters in a scoreless inning Sunday against the Mariners. Stanek was dealing with tightness in his back throughout the weekend series, but he was able to take the mound in the finale. His performance wasn't particularly notable, as the Astros were down 7-2 when he entered the game. However, with Ryan Pressly (knee) on the injured list, Stanek is a potential source of saves in the short term.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Earns relief win
Stanek (2-0) tossed a perfect one-third of an inning to earn the win in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Red Sox on Friday. Stanek was called upon to record the final out in the top of the seventh inning Friday, and he picked up his second win of the 2021 postseason. The righty has recorded a 0.75 WHIP in 2.2 scoreless innings across his four playoff starts this year.... See More ... See Less -

Right-hander Josh James was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land to make room on the active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Placed on paternity list
Stanek landed on the paternity list Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Players typically spend three days on paternity leave, so Stanek will likely return Thursday. Brandon Bielak was recalled to take his place on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Takes fourth loss in relief
Stanek (1-4) allowed one earned run on one hit in one-third of an inning, taking the loss to the Padres on Sunday. Stanek relieved Kendall Graveman with one out in the ninth inning. He retired the first batter and needed just one final out to force extra innings. However, he surrendered the game-winning home run by Jake Cronenworth. The 29-year-old had five straight scoreless appearances prior to Sunday's loss. He has a 3.86 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 73 strikeouts in 58.1 innings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Role being defined
Stanek allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his 14th hold in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Twins. For the second straight game, manager Dusty Baker deployed a bullpen alignment of Stanek, Kendall Graveman and Ryan Pressly for innings seven through nine. While his ERA sits at 3.72, Stanek has been consistent overall out of the bullpen and has earned a role pitching in the final third of games. Aside from two outings in which he allowed a combined nine runs in 1.1 innings, Stanek has posted a 2.11 ERA with 58 strikeouts over the other 47 innings pitched.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Escapes with hold
Stanek allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out two over the eighth inning in Monday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. Stanek was called upon to shepherd a two-run lead to closer Ryan Pressly, but he ran into trouble by walking two batters. After allowing a run on a single, he was able to strike out Bradley Zimmer on five pitches to record his 12th hold of the season. Other than a five-run kerfuffle against the Orioles on June 29, Stanek has been a trusted late-inning source out of the bullpen for Houston since mid-June. He entered Monday's contest having held the opposition scoreless in 12 of his last 13 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Picks up shaky hold
Stanek hit a batter and walked two over two-thirds of an inning in Thursday's 8-4 win over Oakland. Stanek left with the bases juiced but avoided damage to his ERA when Ryan Pressly induced an inning-ending groundout. For Stanek, who had emerged as a high-leverage reliever, it was the third straight shaky outing, and he could be losing that key role. He's allowed five runs on three hits and six walks over his last 1.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Ryne Stanek: Enters for save
Stanek struck out one over a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Mariners. Closer Ryan Pressly had thrown 31 pitches over the last two days, so he was skipped for this save opportunity. Instead, manager Dusty Baker opted for Stanek, who has emerged as Houston's eighth-inning reliever. The right-hander has fired blanks in nine of 12 outings and leapfrogged several relievers to claim a high-leverage role.... See More ... See Less
