  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Out Saturday vs. Padres

Wisdom is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres. Wisdom went 0-for-4 in Friday's game against San Diego, and he is coming off a May where he posted just a .637 OPS in 68 at-bats. He'll get a day off against the Padres on Saturday with Miles Mastrobuoni starting at third base and hitting leadoff.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sitting in series opener

Wisdom is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays. Wisdom started at third base in both of the final two games of the Cubs' series with the Reds this past weekend, going 3-for-6 with a pair of home runs, five RBI, one walk and an additional run. The big finish to the week ended a 2-for-28 skid over the previous nine games, during which Wisdom struck out a whopping 18 times. Miles Mastrobuoni will get a look at the hot corner Monday, and though Wisdom still appears to be the Cubs' preferred option at the position, his tendency to run hot and cold at the plate likely won't give him much job security.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep twice

Wisdom went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, a walk and five RBI in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Reds. Wisdom drove in all five runs for the Cubs after hitting a home run in the second and then another in the eighth. Sunday was just his second multi-hit game this month and his first long ball since May 10. He had been held out of the lineup two of the previous three times the Cubs had faced a righty and will likely need to bring his strikeouts down before he can be considered as a regular fixture again. The 31-year-old is now slashing .225/.316/.556 with 14 homers, 28 RBI, 28 runs and a 19:65 BB:K over 172 plate appearances.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: On bench again

Wisdom is absent from the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Reds. Wisdom has one hit in his last 21 at-bats, striking out 14 times with no walks during that span. This will be the third time in the last five games that he's been on the bench in favor of Miles Mastrobuoni, who will get another start at third base.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: On bench amid slump

Wisdom is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mets. Wisdom was among the most productive hitters in baseball in April, but he's slashed just .163/.293/.327 across 59 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to May. Miles Mastrobuoni will handle third base and bat second Wednesday versus New York. Christopher Morel is serving as the DH and hitting seventh.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Breather Sunday

Wisdom is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus Philadelphia. Wisdom will get a day off after he's gone 1-for-11 with a double and eight strikeouts over the last three games. Miles Mastrobuoni will draw the start at the hot corner and bat eighth in the series finale with the Phillies.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sitting Tuesday

Wisdom isn't starting Tuesday against the Astros, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. The Cubs seem to have fallen into a pattern with Wisdom sitting every third game since May 6. Nick Madrigal will take over in the hot corner and bat leadoff.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Out of lineup

Wisdom will sit Saturday against the Twins. Wisdom finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in the last seven games, with Nick Madrigal replacing him at third base on each of those occasions. Wisdom still owns an excellent .248/.348/.607 season slash line, while Madrigal is slashing just .254/.293/.324, so there's seemingly every chance Wisdom claws back a larger share of the role soon.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes deep Tuesday

Wisdom went 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Cardinals. Wisdom popped his second home run of the month and 12th of the season in the third inning. The 31-year-old came into the game mired in a 7-for-40 slump, so when he's not hitting long balls, he can be tough to stomach in fantasy leagues. Wisdom is now batting .237 with a .941 OPS and should continue to be a boom-or-bust option moving forward.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Sitting out Tuesday

Wisdom is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals. Wisdom still has terrific overall numbers, but he has fallen into a 7-for-40 (.175) slump in the last couple of weeks. Nick Madrigal will play third base Tuesday versus St. Louis. Christopher Morel is at second.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Steals base as pinch runner

Wisdom entered as a pinch runner in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss to the Cubs in 14 innings. He wound up walking in his only plate appearance and stole a base. Wisdom ran for Eric Hosmer in the ninth after the latter drove in a run to tie the game at 2-2. Wisdom was able to steal second but was stranded there. The 33-year-old should find himself back in the lineup Monday against the Cardinals having not started the past two games. After a hot start to the year, Wisdom is now slashing just .154/.298/.308 with two homers, three RBI, five runs and an 8:21 BB:K over his last 13 games. He is still tied for second in baseball with 11 homers, but his recent struggles have led to less playing time.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Not starting again Sunday

Wisdom is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Wisdom has a .590 OPS over his past 12 contests and will take a seat for the second straight game. Nick Madrigal went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run during Saturday's game and will start at third base again Sunday.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Heads to bench

Wisdom will sit Saturday against the Marlins. Wisdom has earned a near-everyday role this season, starting 29 of the Cubs' first 33 games. With 11 homers and an .899 OPS, he should continue to feature regularly, though his 36.9 percent strikeout rate remains worryingly high. After striking out seven times across his last two games, he'll sit in favor of Nick Madrigal.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Keeps power surge going

Wisdom went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Nationals. Wisdom also struck out twice and left five runners on base, but fantasy managers are most interested in the long ball, which was his 11th of the season. That's tied for the MLB lead with Max Muncy and Pete Alonso, and the 31-year-old could be on his way to surpassing his career high of 28 home runs, which he hit back in 2021.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Clubs 10th homer

Wisdom went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Marlins. Wisdom broke out of a slump Saturday, driving Trey Mancini in on a 418-foot, two-run homer in the second inning and reaching base safely three times after going 1-for-15 (.067) in his last five appearances. After hitting his 10th long ball, Wisdom trails only Max Muncy (11) for the league lead in home runs while slashing .250/.327/.659 through 24 games.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Out of lineup Thursday

Wisdom is not in the lineup Thursday against the Padres. This appears to be a normal day of rest for Wisdom, who's sitting on a .954 OPS with nine home runs and 18 RBI through 22 games this season. Nick Madrigal will cover third base and bat eighth for the Cubs in Thursday's matinee.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Goes yard again Friday

Wisdom went 2-for-5 with a double, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 13-0 rout of the Dodgers. He crushed a Jake Reed offering to left field in the fifth inning, kicking off a seven-run frame for the Cubs. The homer was Wisdom's sixth in the last eight games and his ninth of the season, moving him one behind Pete Alonso for the major-league lead. Wisdom also has 18 RBI through 18 contests.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Tuesday's Waiver Wire Targets

Wisdom is another player I'm having a hard time figuring out how to value. He's been absolutely red hot, hitting two homers Monday to bring his season total to a league-best eight, and his underlying metrics largely back up his performance to date. His 65% hard-hit rate ranks among the highest in the league, as does his 95.9 mph average exit velocity, and he's hitting the ball in the air a ton without hitting a bunch of infield fly balls, a significant change after 12.8% of his batted balls last season were pop ups. On the other hand … Wisdom has always hit the ball hard! That's not necessarily new. Sure, he's hitting the ball harder right now than usual, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to find a similar stretch from him before – after all, he had two 14-game stretches with eight homers in 2021, matching his current mark. Which is all to say, Wisdom can get hot, but his 31.6% strikeout rate suggests the flaws that have held him back in the past are still there. I certainly don't mind adding and riding him while he's hot, but I'm not buying into a breakout just yet.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Blasts two homers

Wisdom went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Monday's 10-1 win over Oakland. Wisdom put the Cubs on the board with his solo shot in the second inning followed by a three-run blast in the eighth. The slugger has gone deep eight times and is currently riding a four-game home run streak. During that stretch, he's boosted his season OPS from .892 to 1.139 through 57 plate appearances. He's also now up to eight home runs on the campaign, tying the Mets' Pete Alonso for the MLB lead.

  • Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Blasts sixth home run

Wisdom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Dodgers. Wisdom has now homered in three straight games, giving him six long balls on the season. After going deep a total of 53 times the last two years, he looks poised to reach the 20-homer plateau again in 2023. At this rate, Wisdom could definitely reach 30 home runs for the first time in his career as well. He doesn't offer a ton outside the power, but fantasy managers should welcome his recent production.
