Musgrove (2-2) allowed one run on six hits over 6.1 innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Yankees.
Musgrove rolled through five shutout frames to begin the game and retired the first 11 batters he faced. The 30-year-old tied his season high with six punchouts while picking up his first win since April 22. He hasn't found any sustained success since returning from a toe injury; Musgrove owns a 5.64 ERA and has allowed at least four runs in three of his six starts. He's lined up next for a start in Miami, where he'll look to build on Friday's strong outing.

Enmanuel Valdez accounted for much of the damage against Musgrove with a three-run home run in the second inning. Alex Verdugo added an RBI single in the fourth. Musgrove still has yet to complete six innings in any of his five starts this season, and it's mostly been due to ineffective pitching, as evidenced by his 6.75 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB over 24 innings. The 30-year-old is projected for a road start versus the Yankees next week.

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Takes first loss
Musgrove (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Dodgers.
J.D. Martinez took Musgrove deep for a three-run home run in the first inning, and Will Smith added an RBI single in the third to close out the scoring. This was Musgrove's longest outing so far, and he threw 61 of 97 pitches for strikes despite some lackluster control. He's at a 6.63 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB across 19 innings through four starts. The right-hander is projected for a home start versus the Red Sox next weekend.

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Fans five in no-decision
Musgrove allowed one unearned run on two hits and three walks over five-plus innings during Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
Musgrove worked through five shutout frames before the Dodgers finally brought home a run in the sixth. He was in line for the victory before Josh Hader blew a save in the ninth inning. It was Musgrove's best start after coughing up a combined 10 runs in his first two outings. He's now sporting a 6.75 ERA across 13.1 innings. Musgrove is currently lined up for a rematch with the Dodgers in Los Angeles next week.

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Start pushed back
Musgrove is having his next start pushed back from Friday to Sunday after he developed a blister on his foot, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Musgrove struggled in his previous outing and lasted only 3.1 innings, though it's unclear if that was caused by the injury. The positive news is that the issue doesn't seem likely to force him to the injured list or to miss a full turn through the rotation. Yu Darvish will now start Friday, followed by Blake Snell on Saturday.

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Can't escape fourth inning
Musgrove did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing seven runs on six hits and one walk over 3.1 innings against San Francisco. He struck out three.
Musgrove started the fourth inning with a 5-2 lead. But five of the six batters he faced in the inning reached, and all five came around to score. Musgrove has made two starts this season after a toe and shoulder injury kept him on the injured list for the first few weeks of the campaign. After a career-best 2.93 ERA last season, Musgrove has a 10.80 ERA early in 2023. His next start is tentatively scheduled against the Dodgers, where he will look to get on track.
