  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Re-signs with Washington

Ramirez re-signed with the Nationals on a one-year, $2 million contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Ramirez pitched well for the Nats in long relief in 2022, collecting a 2.92 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 61:14 K:BB ratio over 86.1 innings. He'll likely be used in a similar role in 2023, though he could also pitch in some higher-leverage spots.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Scoreless in short start

Ramirez allowed one hit over three shutout frames in Sunday's win over Atlanta. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision. After Dansby Swanson singled in the first inning, Ramirez retired the next eight batters he faced as the Nationals jumped out to an early lead. The 32-year-old righty lowered his season ERA to 4.26 through 44.1 frames. It was his third outing of the year that lasted at least three innings and his first since June 17.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Gets start in bullpen day

Ramirez is scheduled to serve as the Nationals' starting pitcher Sunday against Atlanta in what's expected to be a bullpen day, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Washington doesn't have an obvious candidate to serve as a bulk reliever behind Ramirez, so the right-hander could end up covering the most innings of any Nationals pitcher in the team's final game before the All-Star break. That being said, Ramirez will be pitching on one day's rest and hasn't covered more than 3.1 innings in any of his 36 appearances between the majors and Triple-A this season, so don't expect him to work deep into Sunday's start.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Hit hard in spot start

Ramirez (1-1) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in three innings, taking the loss Monday versus Atlanta. Half of the hits Ramirez allowed landed over the fence, with Travis d'Arnaud, Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall all taking him deep. This was Ramirez's first start in 21 appearances this season, as he's mainly served as a low-leverage reliever. He has a 4.88 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 27.2 innings, and there's little from Monday's outing to suggest he should receive another look in the rotation barring an emergency.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Starting Monday

Ramirez will start Monday's game against the Braves, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Josiah Gray was labeled as the starting pitcher for Monday's contest, but a rain delay will force the Nationals to roll Ramirez out there after Gray got hot in the bullpen and had to sit down prior to first pitch. This marks Ramirez's first start of the season, though he figures to toss only an inning or two in what will be a bullpen game for Washington.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Contract selected by Washington

Ramirez's contract was selected by the Nationals on Thursday. Ramirez failed to secure a spot on the Nationals' Opening Day roster, but he'll be rewarded with a spot in the major-league bullpen after he struck out 12 in seven scoreless innings in five relief appearances at Triple-A Rochester to begin the year. Right-hander Hunter Harvey was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right pronator strain, while Ehire Adrianza was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the roster. In spite of his strong start to the year in the minors, Ramirez should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Part of Monday's cuts

The Nationals reassigned Ramirez to minor-league camp Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Ramirez is expected to begin the season as a member of the rotation at Triple-A Rochester. He made 17 relief appearances at the big-league level for the Tigers in 2021, logging a 5.74 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB across 26.2 innings.

  • Nationals' Erasmo Ramirez: Lands with Nats

Ramirez agreed Sunday with the Nationals on a minor-league contract, Greg Wickliffe of MLive.com reports. Washington signed both Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez to minor-league deals after both pitched in Miami over the weekend along with Julio Teheran in a showcase for teams. Sanchez and with the recently-signed Aaron Sanchez both look to be more realistic candidates to break camp as a member of Washington's rotation than Ramirez, who will likely report to Triple-A Rochester to begin the season. Ramirez spent the 2021 campaign in the Tigers organization, appearing in 17 games out of the bullpen for the big club while posting a 5.74 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 26.2 innings.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Designated for assignment

Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday. Ramirez holds a 5.74 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 26.2 innings this season, and Detroit has now opted to remove him from the 40-man roster after he allowed nine runs across his last 10 innings. The veteran right-hander could draw interest on the waiver wire from teams in need of relief help, but it would not be at all surprising if he goes unclaimed following his recent struggles.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Records four-out loss

Ramirez (1-1) was tagged with the loss Sunday against Cleveland after allowing two runs on three hits while fanning one across 1.1 innings. Ramirez didn't have his best stuff Sunday and while he was extremely effective -- needing just 23 pitches to record four outs -- he still suffered his first loss of the campaign. He owns a 4.95 ERA on the campaign.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Picks up win

Ramirez (1-0) pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout, earning the win Sunday versus Baltimore. The 31-year-old had an uneven July, but he's now strung together 7.1 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and a walk in that span. Ramirez has filled a bulk-relief role since he returned from a pectoral strain. He has a 4.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB in 16.2 innings across 10 appearances.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Solid in long relief

Ramirez (pectoral) allowed a run on two hits across 2.2 innings in Friday's 8-2 loss to the White Sox. Friday was Ramirez's season debut. He allowed three runs on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts across six innings in four rehab appearances with Triple-A Toledo. The right-hander was solid in limited time with the Mets last year, posting a 0.63 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB across 14.1 innings. He is expected to fill a bulk relief role going forward.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Reinstated Friday

Ramirez (pectoral) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the White Sox. Ramirez was called up by Detroit on May 7 but he landed on the injured list just a day later without pitching in a big-league game. He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on June 18 and wound up making four appearances, allowing three runs on four hits across eight innings. He'll now rejoin the Tigers' bullpen, where he figures to pitch primarily in long relief.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Prepping for third rehab outing

Ramirez (pectoral) is expected to throw 2-to-3 innings in his next rehab outing Thursday for Triple-A Toledo, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Ramirez has been stellar through his first two rehab appearances, striking out three over 3.1 perfect innings. If Ramirez's strained right pectoral checks out fine coming out of Thursday's outing, he could be reinstated from the 10-day injured list a few days later. He'll likely fill a multi-inning relief role for Detroit once activated.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Doing some activity

Ramirez (pectoral) has been doing some activity at the Tigers' spring training facility recently, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Ramirez has been on the 10-day injured list since May 8 due to a right pectorals strain, but he appears to be making some progress in his recovery. However, manager A.J. Hinch didn't provide specifics regarding when Ramirez could return to game action.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Lands on injured list

Ramirez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right pectoralis strain Saturday. Ramirez's contract was selected by the Tigers on Friday, but he didn't appear in the series opener against the Twins. Right-hander Joe Jimenez was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Contract selected by Detroit

Ramirez had his contract selected by the Tigers on Friday. The 31-year-old failed to make the Opening Day roster but will join the Tigers five weeks into the season. Ramirez has six appearances out of the bullpen for the Mets last season and surrendered one run on eight hits with a 9:4 K:BB across 14.1 innings.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Headed to alternate site

The Tigers reassigned Ramirez on Tuesday to their alternate training site in Toledo. The team already informed Ramirez that he wouldn't make the Opening Day roster, and this move makes it official. The righty pitched well this spring, posting a 0.77 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 11.2 innings, and with some solid MLB experience in his back pocket, he could certainly get called up at some point.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Sharp this spring

Ramirez tossed three scoreless innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays and has a 0.77 ERA this spring. Ramirez, who is in camp as a non-roster invitee, has made a strong case for a roster spot with the 0.77 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and nine strikeouts across 11.2 innings. The veteran reliever posted a 0.63 ERA and 0.84 WHIP across 14.1 innings for the Mets in 2020, so while it's not a huge sample, Ramirez has pitched well recently and could stick on a Detroit team in need of reliable bullpen options.

  • Tigers' Erasmo Ramirez: Set to join Tigers' camp

Ramirez joined the Tigers as a non-roster invitee Tuesday. Ramirez threw 14.1 innings of relief for the Mets last season, allowing just a single earned run. It took quite a bit of good fortune to get to that number, as seen in his .179 BABIP and 100 percent strand rate, but he's been a competent pitcher for most of his nine-year career, posting a career 4.31 ERA.
