Segura went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Friday's split-squad game against the Cardinals. The Marlins have gotten a number of players back from the WBC in the last couple days, including Segura, and the veteran infielder quickly showed he hadn't lost any ground in his preparations during his time away from camp. Segura got the start at third base and hit leadoff, a spot in the batting order he might occupy when games begin to count as his on-base skills were a big reason why Miami signed him. The 33-year-old hasn't posted an OBP below .336 over a full season since 2015.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Jean Segura: Set to play third base
Manager Skip Schumaker said Thursday the Marlins plan to play Segura at third base after the team signed him to a two-year, $17 million contract, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports. It's not a surprise the 32-year-old won't be at the keystone since Miami already has Jazz Chisholm, and Segura will end up at the hot corner rather than shortstop. Segura has played in just 24 games at third base during his 11-year career, all of which came in 2020 with the Phillies. The veteran infielder had a .277/.336/.387 slash line with 10 home runs and 13 stolen bases in 98 contests last season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Jean Segura: Joining Marlins
Segura signed a two-year, $17 million contract with the Marlins on Wednesday, Hector Gomez of Z101Digital.com reports. Segura slashed .277/.336/.387 over 387 plate appearances in 2022 for Philadelphia, though most of his value lies with his glove. Segura has almost exclusively played second base the past two years; however, the presence of Jazz Chisholm will likely lead to Segura shifting over to shortstop or third base.... See More ... Jean Segura: Heads to free agency
The Phillies have declined Segura's $17 million team option for 2023, making him a free agent. Segura played a key role in Philadelphia's postseason run, especially with his glove, but the Phillies have elected to move in a different direction in 2023. The veteran slashed .277/.336/.387 with 10 homers, 33 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 45 runs scored over 98 games in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Smacks two hits in Game 5
Segura went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Astros in Game 5 of the World Series. Segura recorded his first multi-hit performance of the World Series, and his RBI single in the eighth inning brought the Phillies to within one with the tying run on third. The 32-year-old is playing in his 11th season but only his first postseason. Even with his performance Thursday night, he is hitting just .226 across 53 at bats while knocking in seven runs. Segura will look to provide another spark at the bottom of the Phillies lineup in Game 6 against projected starter Framber Valdez -- he was 1-for-2 against Valdez in the Game 2 loss.... See More ... Phillies' Jean Segura: Day off Tuesday
Segura is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Many of the Phillies' regulars are getting the day off after celebrating a postseason berth Monday night. Phil Maton is starting at the keystone and hitting sixth.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Racking up runs
Segura went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Nationals. He's now crossed home four times in the last two days alone after scoring just twice over the Phillies' final 11 contests of September. Segura will be taking a five-game hitting streak into Monday's game against the Astros. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in the series opener.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Hits solo home run
Segura went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's loss against Atlanta. Segura hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead before Atlanta would come back to win in the eighth inning. It was Segura's 10th homer of the season and his second this month. The second baseman has been on fire this month, going 13-for-43 (.302), including two multi-hit games. He has gone hitless in just three of 12 games this month. On the season, Segura is slashing .286/.343/.418.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Sitting Sunday
Segura is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, according to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Segura has not sat much since returning from the injured list in early August, but he will get a day off after making 18 straight starts. Nick Maton will cover the keystone Sunday for the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Steals base in blowout victory
Segura went 1-for-2 with one double, one run scored and one steal in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh. Segura tallied a double off righty reliever Chase De Jong in the fifth. In his last 12 games, the second baseman has recorded 13 hits in 39 at-bats; however, he has only two extra-base hits during that span. In addition, the 32-year-old has not struck out much in his last 10 games with only four in 30 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Contributes with three hits
Segura went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Reds. Segura has been productive lately with a .333 average and .408 OBP over 42 at-bats in his last 12 games. The second baseman has been much better at home with a .829 OPS in 128 at-bats compared to a .669 OPS in 100 at-bats on the road. In addition, the 32-year-old has more power against lefties with a .464 slugging percentage in 69 at-bats compared to a .396 slugging percentage in 159 at-bats against right-handed pitching.... Phillies' Jean Segura: Sleeper hitters for Week 21 (Aug. 22-28)
Segura has yet to catch fire after missing two months with a fractured finger, but we all know what he's capable of. Having pitchers like Luis Cessa, Justin Dunn, Tyler Beede and Zach Thompson on the schedule this week should yield favorable results.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Getting rest Sunday
Segura is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mets. Segura had been in the lineup for seven consecutive games, including both of the team's contests in a doubleheader Saturday. He hit .346 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in that span. Nick Maton will take over at second base and hit seventh.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Collects 11th steal
Segura went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Mets. The veteran infielder needed a couple games to shake off the rust after returning from a lengthy absence earlier this month, but Segura is locked in now. Over his last 10 games, he's batting .351 (13-for-37) with five runs scored and three of his 11 stolen bases on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Leading off Wednesday
Segura will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Reds. With the lefty-hitting Bryson Stott getting the afternoon off with southpaw Nick Lodolo on the hill for the Reds and with Kyle Schwarber (calf) still out of the lineup, Segura will step into the leadoff role for the 12th time this season. Segura gets the assignment after going 3-for-5 with a run scored in Tuesday's 11-4 win.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Riding pine Saturday

Phillies' Jean Segura: Homers in win
Segura went 2-for-3 with one homer, one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over Miami. Segura took a Braxton Garrett slider deep to left to extend the Phillies' lead to two in the fourth inning. The second baseman has now recorded hits in his last two games, a welcome sign after he began hitless in his first two games since returning from the IL. Segura appears to have returned to form and is poised to provide a strong batting average and meaningful counting stats the rest of the way hitting in the middle of the Philadelphia lineup.... Phillies' Jean Segura: Possible waiver wire pickups
After missing all of June and July with a fractured right index finger, Segura was back in his usual second base spot Thursday, shifting rookie Bryson Stott to shortstop. The Phillies even released Didi Gregorius to ensure no playing-time disputes. Segura went 3 for 4 with a stolen base in his third game back Saturday and remains a quality option at a weak position as sort of a jack of all trades, master of none. If second base has been a struggle for you all year, you'll want to make a play right away. Normally, you wouldn't have a chance at someone this good so late in the year.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Receives Sunday off
Segura is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. Segura started the past three games after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Thursday, and he'll take a seat for the series finale versus Washington after going 3-for-10 with a run and a stolen base. Nick Maton will man the keystone and bat ninth for the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Jean Segura: Back from injured list
Segura (finger) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list by the Phillies on Thursday. He'll man second base and bat seventh in the Phillies' series opener with the Nationals. Segura has been sidelined the past two months after undergoing surgery for a fractured right index finger, but he's been cleared to rejoin the active roster after an eight-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 32-year-old should take over the everyday role at second base while Bryson Stott handles primary duties at shortstop. Segura had a .275/.324/.407 slash line with six homers, 19 RBI and eight stolen bases in 44 games prior to suffering the injury. Didi Gregorius was released by the Phillies in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less
