Perez wasn't part of San Diego's roster for the wild-card round versus Atlanta, as the team didn't need him as part of the rotation for the three-game set. However, Perez will be available for the NLDS and could start Game 4 of the series since Joe Musgrove (elbow) is out for the remainder of the postseason and beyond as he prepares for Tommy John surgery. Perez (5-5) picked up the win over the White Sox on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
Perez retired seven of the first eight batters he faced before issuing two free passes in the top of the third. The veteran right-hander was able to work his way out of the jam, however, and allowed just one run through five frames before again running into trouble in the sixth. Perez would then be relieved by Bryan Hoeing with one out in the inning, though the former was still able to log his fifth win of the campaign and his third as a member of the Padres. He's now allowed one run or fewer in each of his last three starts and carries a very strong 1.08 ERA in September to go along with a 13:5 K:BB.
Perez allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out two over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.
The lone mistake on Perez's line was a solo home run by Donovan Walton in the sixth inning, which tied the game at 1-1. Perez ended up missing one turn through the rotation while on the paternity list. He's allowed multiple runs just three times over eight starts since he was traded from the Pirates to the Padres, though he's completed six innings just three times in that span. Perez has a 4.36 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 98:44 K:BB across 126 innings through 24 starts this year. He's lined up to make his next start at home versus the White Sox.

Perez has missed the Padres' last two games after being placed on the paternity list Wednesday, and while he could remain away from the team for Saturday's contest as well, he looks poised to rejoin the club for the series finale at Oracle Park. Since coming over in a deal with the Pirates at the trade deadline, Perez has turned in a 2.84 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB in 38 innings over his seven outings with San Diego.
The Padres placed Perez on the paternity list Wednesday.
Perez is allowed to be away from the team for up to three games, and the Padres will push back his next scheduled start from Friday to Sunday while he spends time with his family, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune. While Perez is away, Tom Cosgrove will come up from Triple-A to give San Diego additional bullpen help.

Perez's lone walk came in the opening frame, while he allowed just one runner to reach second base in the contest. Unfortunately for the southpaw, San Diego would go on to squander a 3-0 lead after he departed to prevent him from coming away with the win. It marked Perez's second time this season in which he's hurled six shutout frames, with the previous one coming as a member of the Pirates. Thursday's performance also snapped a streak of six consecutive starts in which he had surrendered at least one home run.
