Despite a starting rotation that has been torn apart by injuries, the Blue Jays are just 2.5 games out of the wild-card lead. They are going to be buyers at the deadline, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.

  • The Blue Jays have holes in the starting rotation, but the team is unwilling to part with top prospects for a short-term fix.
  • That likely puts them out of the running for Zack Greinke and Cole Hamels, but they could be interested in Matt Garza and Wandy Rodriguez.
  • Both Garza and Rodriguez are under team control through the 2013 season, which makes them more appealing to the Blue Jays. Rodriguez also has a club option worth $13 million, that would put him under team control through 2014.
  • They won't deplete the farm system, but the Blue Jays are likely to be involved in talks for every available pitcher.
