Having put on a crowd-pleasing show in Southern California, Brooks Lee will attempt to impress his Northern California fans when he completes a homecoming tour as his Minnesota Twins visit the San Francisco Giants on Monday night.

Lee extended his hitting streak to five games with three singles and scored three times Sunday, helping the Twins (73-83) thump the Los Angeles Angels 8-0 in Anaheim, Calif., to salvage a split in their four-game set.

Lee went 8-for-17 in the series, raising his season average to .253.

Those games took place about 225 miles south of Lee's hometown of San Luis Obispo on the California coast, where he played for the local university -- Cal Poly San Luis Obispo -- for his dad, longtime Mustangs head coach Larry Lee.

The Twins flew over the popular vacation spot on their way Sunday night to San Francisco, which, coincidentally, is about 225 miles north of San Luis Obispo.

As a senior at San Luis Obispo High, Lee was drafted by the Giants in the 35th round in 2019 but elected to join his dad at Cal Poly, where three years later he became the first-round selection of the Twins.

Lee, who has gone hitless in 13 career plate appearances in San Francisco, acknowledges enjoying getting recognized by his many California friends.

"I know I'm representing Cal Poly and representing the city of San Luis Obispo," the 25-year-old told reporters during his major league journey, "and then the best part is representing the three letters of my last name."

Interestingly, Lee's visit comes while another former Cal Poly standout is being honored by the Giants. Longtime broadcaster Mike Krukow, 74, has announced he will retire following Sunday's season finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Krukow, a 124-game major league winner, has broadcast Giants games for 36 years.

Coming off three straight losses in Los Angeles to the Dodgers, the Giants will play their final six games at home, giving Krukow's former teammates and many admirers a chance to wish him well.

He says he and his wife, Jennifer, are ready for what promises to be a memorable experience.

"We are bracing for the emotional hits we know we are going to feel in the next few weeks," Krukow wrote in announcing his retirement earlier this month. "Jennifer and I are wondering if it is even possible to let everyone know how deeply we love and respect our Giants family."

The Giants (64-92) will open the series vs. Minnesota with right-hander Blade Tidwell (1-2, 4.56 ERA) on the mound. He picked up his first win on Tuesday after allowing two runs on three hits in 6 2/3 innings in a 10-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tidwell has yet to face Minnesota in his career.

The Twins listed Bailey Ober as their starter until he was called on to pitch three innings Sunday against the Angels, recording his first career save. Minnesota shifted gears after the game and announced right-hander Zebby Matthews (9-10, 4.74 ERA) as Monday's starter.

Matthews saw his winless streak extend to three outings on Wednesday despite scattering two hits and striking out eight batters over six innings in his team's 5-4, 13-inning win over the New York Yankees.

Matthews hasn't faced the Giants in his career.
