PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) Clifford Omoruyi scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Derek Simpson hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 12.7 seconds left and Rutgers beat Stonehill 59-58 on Saturday.

Rutgers led 42-32 before Stonehill used a 16-1 run for a 47-43 lead with 9:39 remaining. Chas Stinson made a 3-pointer and had seven points, and Todd Brogna and Tony Felder also each hit a 3 during the stretch for the Skyhawks.

Aundre Hyatt's 3-pointer for Rutgers tied it 51-all with 6:35 to play, and neither team held more than a three-point advantage the rest of the way.

Omoruyi was 3 of 6 from the floor, made 11 of 20 free throws and blocked three shots for Rutgers (8-4), which shot just 26% (16 of 62) from the floor and were 22-of-35 (63%) shooting at the line. Hyatt made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points. Simpson finished with 14 points.

Stinson scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Stonehill (2-13). Felder made six free throws and finished with 13 points on 3-of-20 shooting from the floor. Brogna had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Rutgers led 32-22 with 3:44 left in the first half, but Stinson scored the Skyhawks' next seven points to get them within 35-29 at the break. Stinson grabbed five rebounds and scored 12 in the first half without missing a shot, going 5 of 5 from the floor with a 3-pointer and a free throw.

It was the first meeting between the teams.

Rutgers resumes Big Ten play on the road Wednesday against Ohio State.

Stonehill, which has played 11 road games, hosts Central Connecticut on Thursday in a Northeast Conference opener.
