We're halfway through matchday two of Champions League play and it brought the goals and some standout defensive performances. In the biggest matchup of the day, Arsenal flexed their defense in a 2-0 victory over PSG to join Inter and Bayer Leverkusen as the only UCL sides to not concede a goal yet. Expected favorites like Manchester City, Inter, and Barcelona took care of business scoring four or more goals each but the biggest performance came from Germany. Borussia Dortmund rode five first-half goals and a Karim Adeyemi hat trick to a 7-1 victory over Celtic.
Meanwhile, in rounding things out, Brest are enjoying their inaugural Champions League voyage with a 4-0 victory over RB Salzburg to get to six points already.

PSG fans will remember this feeling as they had it a few times already last season. Although not quite the blowout that Newcastle United away was and not as soul destroying as the semifinal losses to Borussia Dortmund, the result remains the same: enough chances created but not enough goals. If prizes were handed out for possession-based soccer, then Luis Enrique's trophy cabinet would be full and he could have retired by now. A greater percentage of the ball does not guarantee wins nor trophies and this is another reminder to the Spaniard and this very young PSG side that they need to take those chances when they come.
Do we have late drama? PSV has led for 83 minutes of play but now conceding to Sporting, they'll be under pressure to close this out. Bakayoko had a chance to put the game away and after missing it, Sporting went the other way with Daniel Braganca nabbing an equalizer.
It's the high fives for Barcelona as while some of the stars have been subbed out, that doesn't mean that Flick's men are letting up. Balde's cross was hit in by Mohamed Aly Camara for an own goal.
After being awarded a penalty, Inter wouldn't miss running their lead to four goals against the Serbian side. 4-0 is quite a popular score with this being the third game to accomplish that feat.
Ouch. Not much to say when you're down by six goals but Felix Nmecha has scored now for Dortmund's fourth different goal scorer in the match.
It's James McAtee who got this one for Ciryt who are scoring when they want against Slovan.
Lautaro Martinez has arrived for the iitalians. It only took six mintues from coming off the bench to finding the back of the net but talk about having a finisher. It feels rude to bring him into a match that was already won but goals like this do wonders for confidence.
Dortmund are not letting up hitting yet another goal in this one. Now it's a brace for Guirassy as Dortmund looks to get two players hat tricks during this match.
After being injured in a training session, Merino hasn't been available for most of the season fso far or Arsenal but now we'll get our first look at him as he receives crucial minutes for Arsenal to help close out a crucial match aginst PSG.
Luis Enrique finally changing things up. Bizarre that it has taken over an hour, but he has finally thrown Kolo Muani and Ruiz on for Vitinha and Doue. Will be interesting to see if PSG fare better with Lee out wide. s it too late, though? We are about to find out... It does feel like a slightly delayed reaction right now.
More in this edition of taking care of business where all the top teams do what they're supposed to do in this slate. This time it's Marko Arnautovic to find the back of the net for Inter.
Talk about duels that scarcely count as them. At one end Havertz gets an unmarked header in the PSG box, one that takes a really neat block from Nuno Mendes, who understandably was not letting the ball go near Donnarumma. Moments later Gabriel just sticks out a long leg and the promise of half a counter just dies. Arsenal are barely even having to deploy their physical power and they are totally dominating a team that looks second best in terms of discipline, strength and tactics.
The second halves of these matches are picking up where the first left off and City are rolling with Erling Haaland finding the back of the net. Wirth how this game has gone, it's more surprising that it has taken until the 58th minute for him to find the net.
It's an opener for Leverkusen. Maignan did well on Grimaldo's shot but no one could stop Boniface for stealing in for the opener and Milan's attack will need to step up.
It's another set play foal for Barcelona with Martinez's header coming across for Lewandowski to increase the lead. Barcelona are taking care of business here.
It was a sensational first half for Dortmund with Adeyemi securing a hat trick but right in the second half he went down with an apparent hamstring injury. He's replaced by Duranville but Dortmund will hope it's only minor with the international break looming.
In the second half Timber has been withdrawn for Kwior. After his first half, it's unsure if this is injury related or just load management from Arteta already haveing a two goal lead.
Bayer Leverkusen and Milan is the only match without goals in what has been a wild slate so far. Four matches have teams with leads of two goals or more but that doesn't mean that they're over as anything could happen. Dortmund saw the most goals thanks to a first half hat trick from Adeyemi but what a slate that this has been so far.
It's a first half hat trick for Adeyemi as Dortmund have now scored two goals in four minutes. Adeyemi drew the penalty for Dortmund's fourth goal before scoring the fifth on his own. What a start to this match with six first half goals.
That Arsenal goal there. It looks like it'll be given to Saka for the fairly obvious reason that his touch was the last one before the ball crossed the line. But we all know that the man most responsible for that calamitous concession was Donnarumma. Give him the own goal. Sport is a cruel, unsympathetic world. Let's lean into that.
After a fairly encouraging spell post-Arsenal's opener, the positivity has completely gone at 2-0. Luis Enrique has some work to do at the break. Defensively, there have been suspect showings while the midfield has not been totally convincing either. Kolo Muani can offer a more direct threat while Ruiz also potentially brings more midfield mastery. Will those changes be actioned?
Celtic will always have the moment when this match was level for a few minutes. It's another penalty and this time it's a Guirassy goal. All the goal difference that Celtic built up is basically lost now.
We're going at it again with goals separated by four minutes. This time its Martinez as the scoring love is being spread around everywhere.
Uh oh, this time it's Thomas Parte who found the back of the net after another Arsenal set play. Saka's cross was great and Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey provided distractions without actually touching it as it squeaked in for a goal. The Parisians are up against it now.
Pedri's shot was well followed up by Raphinha and Barcelona are more than off and running now with two goals in 35 minutes. They should be on track to pick up their first points of their Champions League campaign now.
Dortmund saw that we hadn't had a goal in more than five minutes and went to rectify that increasing their lead over Celtic to tow goals. It's a brace for Adeyemi as Celtic are already up against it.
Often questionable in the biggest games with PSG, the Italian shot stopper will face criticism once again after being beaten there. It was not terribly convincing from the Parisien defense which Marquinhos has been discussing with Luis Enrique, but Donnarumma's failure to assert any sort of aerial control was disappointing. Other than that, the Fench giants had probably been hoping that they had taken the sting out of things until Havertz struck.
After a slower start compared to the matches around he Kai Havertz got his head onto a Leandro Trossard cross that was just enough to beat Donnarumma in the net. It's a massive goal here.
Sporting trails after an absolute stunner from Schouten from outside the box. This is going to be up there for one of the goals of the tournament.
Phil Foden makes his first start this season for City and quickly finds the score sheet as well. It's an easy start so far for City.
