  • Henrik Lundqvist: Announces retirement

Lundqvist (heart) is retiring from the NHL. Lundqvist's illustrious career featured everything but a Stanley Cup, but it unfortunately came to a premature end due to a heart condition discovered prior to the start of the 2020-21 campaign. The future Hall-of-Fame goaltender had a 459-310-96 record, 2.43 GAA and .918 save percentage in 887 career NHL appearances, all with the Rangers. He was even better under the bright lights of the postseason, with a 2.30 GAA and .921 save percentage over 130 starts, including a 6-2 record in Game 7s and no more than one goal allowed in any of those six victories.

  • Capitals' Henrik Lundqvist: Lands one-year deal

Lundqvist secured a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Washington on Friday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. Lundqvist will don another sweater for the first time in his 15-year NHL career. With 459 career wins, King Henrik currently sits second among active goalies behind only Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury. With the Caps, Lundqvist can at best hope to split time with Ilya Samsonov, who had an excellent debut season in 2019-20. However, if the youngster struggles, Lundqvist figures to immediately jump into a starting role.

  • Henrik Lundqvist: Contract bought out

Lundqvist's contract was bought out by the Rangers on Wednesday. The buyout marks the end of King Henrik's 15-year reign in New York. During that time, Lundqvist posted a 459-310-96 record in 887 appearances along with a .918 save percentage, 2.43 GAA and 64 shutouts. The Swedish backstop currently sits sixth all-time in career wins and second among active players. The two-time NHL All-Star and 2011-12 Vezina Trophy winner will almost certainly garner interest from several NHL clubs, though it will likely be at significantly less than the $8.5 million cap hit he was set to cost the Rangers this year.

  • Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist: Tough time in Game 2

Lundqvist stopped 30 shots in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Game 2. The 38-year-old netminder struggled during the regular season, compiling a 10-12-3 record while posting a sub-par 3.16 GAA and .905 save percentage, but he looked good during training camp and has fared extremely well against the Hurricanes in the past.

  • Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist: Will get chance to win starting gig

According to team president John Davidson, Lundqvist will have a chance to win the starting job back during the Rangers' pre-playoffs training camp, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports. Lundqvist has essentially served as New York's No. 3 netminder since early January behind Igor Shesterkin and Alexandar Georgiev, but the Rangers may want to rely on the 38-year-old Swede's wealth of experience once the playoffs get underway. They'll also be taking on the Hurricanes in the qualifying round, and Lundqvist has been exceptional against Carolina this year, going 3-0-0 while posting an impressive 2.33 GAA and .947 save percentage. More information regarding New York's goaltending battle should begin to surface once the team's training camp gets underway in mid-July.

But this was his first game since Jan. 11 as he's been part of a three-headed goaltending monster, sharing time with Igor Shesterkin and Alexandar Georgiev. • Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist: Dealing with illness

Lundqvist is under the weather and won't start Saturday's clash with Vancouver, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports. The two netminders should continue to split the workload heading into the back half of the season with no certainty regarding who will get the nod if the Rangers make the postseason.
