Scottie Upshall: Announces retirement
Upshall announced his retirement from professional hockey Monday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
Upshall played just 12 games in Switzerland for Ambri-Piotta this season, notching four goals, three helpers and 51 PIM. Over the course of his 15-year NHL career, the winger racked up 138 goals and 146 helpers in 759 games with Nashville, Florida, Philadelphia, Arizona, St. Louis and Columbus.

Scottie Upshall: Signs overseas
Upshall has signed with HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss League, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
Upshall tried his hand on a PTO with the Stars this preseason but couldn't make the cut. After not receiving an offer through the first month of the season, Upshall will play overseas for the first time in his career. He's signed through Dec. 25. After his deal expires, Upshall hopes to represent Team Canada in the Spengler Cup, an international competition in which NHL players are unable to participate.

Scottie Upshall: Released from PTO
The Stars released Upshall from a professional tryout agreement Sunday, Jeff Odom of the team's official site reports.
Upshall hasn't played since the 2017-18 season after dealing with a knee injury and a lacerated kidney. The 34-year-old appeared to have a solid camp, but the Stars are tight on rosters spots. With 10 days until the season starts, Upshall may still get a tryout with another squad.

Stars' Scottie Upshall: Secures tryout
Upshall will join the Stars at training camp on a professional tryout agreement, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Upshall unsuccessfully tried out with the Oilers last season and didn't end up playing professionally in 2018-19. As such, it seems unlikely things will be any different in Dallas, though his experience (759 NHL games) could help him earn a bottom-six role.

Scottie Upshall: Cut by Oilers
Upshall was released from his professional tryout by Edmonton on Monday.
Considering the wealth of young forward depth the Oilers have, it shouldn't come as a shock to see the veteran cut loose ahead of the season. The 34-year-old may struggle to find a new landing spot, which could mean the end of his professional career. If this is it, the winger would retire with 138 goals and 147 assists in 759 NHL contests.

Scottie Upshall: Still dealing with knee injury
Coach Todd McLellan told reporters that Upshall's release from his PTO was due to injury and that the team would still consider bringing him back once healthy, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
As stated by McLellan, Upshall will likely be allowed to skate with the team and may have to spend some time in the minors before the organization would consider signing him to a regular contract. It's a glimmer of hope for the veteran that his career may not have come to a close yet.

Oilers' Scottie Upshall: Passes physical Monday
Upshall (knee) has passed his physical and will join the Oilers on the ice Monday, Jason Gregor of OilersNation.com reports.
Apparently Upshall needed a few extra days in order to pass his physical, which still doesn't bode well for his chances of securing a permanent deal from the Oilers. A wealth of young talent -- including Jujhar Khaira and Anton Slepyshev -- stand in Upshall's way of landing a spot on the 23-man roster for Opening Night against New Jersey.

Oilers' Scottie Upshall: Fails medical
Upshall (knee) failed his medical examination with the Oilers on Thursday, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Upshall's failed medical doesn't technically end his professional tryout agreement with Edmonton, but now that he's expected to be sidelined for several weeks, there's virtually no chance he'll make the Opening Night roster. The 33-year-old forward will likely try to catch on with another NHL club if and when he's released from his PTO with the Oilers.

Oilers' Scottie Upshall: Inks PTO with Edmonton
Upshall agreed to a professional tryout contract with Edmonton on Sunday.
Selected sixth overall in the 2002 NHL Draft, Upshall recorded seven goals and 19 points in 63 games with the Blues last season. Even though he missed the stretch run with a lacerated kidney, that was his best point total since the 2013-14 campaign. The 34-year-old winger could provide some veteran leadership to a relatively young Oilers squad, but even if he makes the roster he likely won't play a big role. At the very least, he could provide some physicality in a bottom-six capacity.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Out for season with lacerated kidney
Upshall will miss the rest of the season with a lacerated kidney he suffered during Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic St. Louis reports.
Upshall was in his second game back from a 10-game hiatus due to a knee injury, but he took a huge hit from Arizona's Luke Schenn and couldn't return afterwards. The 34-year-old winger has averaged just 10:51 per game, but he's a lineup fixture and was made a healthy scratch just three times this season because of multiple costly penalties. This is the third season-ending injury the Blues will endure within a two-week span, as defensemen Jay Bouwmeester (hip) and Carl Gunnarsson (knee) both are out for the year, so they will likely turn to Tage Thompson or recall Samuel Blais to fill the void. Upshall will finish the campaign with seven goals, 19 points, 119 hits and 46 PIM in 63 games.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Returning to action Friday
Upshall (knee) will suit up against the Golden Knights on Friday, Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The rugged winger has been out since March 3. Upshall used to be worth owning in deep fantasy leagues since he'd hit double digits in goals and assists in his prime years, but nowadays he's more of a fourth-line grinder, as evidenced by his 116 hits through 51 games and nearly 11 minutes of average ice time.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Medically cleared
Upshall (knee) has been given the green light to return, but will likely sit out Tuesday versus the Sharks.
Coach Mike Yeo told reporters, "It wouldn't hurt (Upshall) to have another practice, and guys that could potentially come out of the lineup have done a really good job and don't deserve to come out." The good news for the winger is that he is at least available for action, should Yeo decide to insert him into the lineup. The Alberta native needs just two more points to reach the 20-point threshold for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Set to miss at least four weeks
Upshall will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks due to a MCL sprain.
Based on the team's announced timeline, Upshall could return for the final four games of the regular season. Currently the Blues are in the hunt for a wikd-card spot, but one would have to imagine the club won't rush the winger back into action if it is eliminated from postseason contention prior to his return. If Nikita Soshnikov (illness) is unable to give it a go versus the Sharks on Thursday, Oskar Sundqvist could replace Upshall in the lineup.

Upshall skated for just over eight minutes before departing. Fortunately for the winger, there will be four days off before the next game, so with any luck, he won't miss any time at all.

Upshall was a healthy scratch in Saturday's game against the Coyotes.
Upshall has now been scratched in three consecutive games since returning from the five-day break. Head coach Mike Yeo said a large part of it was the penalties Upshall has been taking, as he had 14 PIM in the last 10 games. Upshall can play a lot of roles, with one of them being physical, as he has dished out 87 hits through 46 games this season. With Jaden Schwartz (ankle) looking to return to the lineup soon, Upshall may have an even more difficult time cracking the lineup.

Upshall found the back of the net for the first time in 11 games, as the 34-year-old isn't known for his goal-scoring. He plays on the fourth line and has managed just 14 points through 41 contests. Upshall could be worth owning in some deeper leagues due to his six goals and 34 PIM, but his fantasy value remains limited due to his bottom-six role and lack of power-play time.

Upshall had two shots on goal and two penalty minutes in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to St. Louis.
The 34-year-old has quietly been productive this season notching 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 27 games, but is currently on a five game pointless streak -- his longest of the season. Regardless, Upshall has only been receiving 11:15 of ice time and skating mainly on the fourth line, making his early season point total quite impressive.

The fourth-line winger only had one assist in his previous 11 games entering Saturday and isn't known for his offensive output. The veteran offers depth scoring and strong PIM totals, but ultimately isn't very valuable outside of some very deep fantasy leagues.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Sticking with St. Louis
Upshall signed a one-year, one-way contract worth $800,000 with the Blues on Sunday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
With their forward group having been decimated by injury this preseason, the Blues have turned to a familiar face in Upshall to provide reinforcements. Upshall's never blown anyone away with his offensive ability, but his value comes from his ability to provide energy, his responsibility in his own end, and his penalty-killing abilities. That said, none of these qualities directly show up on the scoreline, limiting Upshall's fantasy prospects.

Blues' Scottie Upshall: Skips back to The Loo
Upshall signed a PTO with the Blues on Saturday, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic St. Louis reports.
The gritty winger played for the Notes the past two seasons before testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this summer. He garnered a PTO with the Canucks earlier in the month, but was ultimately released. St. Louis has been hit hard with injuries, and devastated by the recent news that Robby Fabbri (knee) will be out for the entire season. Upshall can probably help in a pinch, but he won't be coveted in fantasy circles since he's accumulated a mere 47 points over 206 games over the last three seasons -- including 2014-15 with Florida.
