  • Red Wings' Joakim Andersson: Inks two-year deal with Swedish club

Andersson has signed a two-year contract with Orebro of the Swedish Elite League (SEL), Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Andersson was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but now he'll return to the comforts of his native land. The 27-year-old defenseman played in 205 regular-season games with the Wings, including 27 more in the playoffs, though he had a tough time fitting in this season with rookie Alexey Marchenko needing minutes on the blue line. It'll be interesting to see if Andersson returns to the NHL someday, but if not, he finishes with 15 goals and 21 assists after four years of service.

  • Red Wings' Joakim Andersson: Re-assigned to AHL

Andersson was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids by the Red Wings on Thursday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.

Andersson has been back and forth between Detroit and Grand Rapids all season, as he has struggled with his consistency on the ice. He's never been much of a fantasy contributor, with only one season of more than 10 points, but has even less value now that he's not playing every night in Detroit. With the way things are rolling for the Wings right now, Andersson will likely need an injury to get back into the lineup.
