  • Andrew Desjardins: Released from PTO

Desjardins was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Rangers on Tuesday.

Desjardins never saw any regular-season action with the Rangers after being suspended for two preseason games following an illegal check. The Ontario native has mostly been a fourth-line filler wherever he has gone, but there are still teams out there that could use one of those. Regardless, he's not a fantasy asset in the majority of formats.

  • Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Serves out suspension

Desjardins (suspension) has served his two-game ban for an illegal check.

Unfortunately for Desjardins, the suspension may have cost him a shot at securing a permanent contract from the Rangers, as he is currently in camp on a professional tryout. With the preseason slate all wrapped up for New York, the center was unable to prove his value to team brass, who will now begin the process of making final cuts to get down to a 23-man roster -- one that may or may not include Desjardins.

  • Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Suspended for two exhibition games

Desjardins was assessed a two-game suspension Monday for his illegal check to the head of New Jersey's Miles Wood.

The incident occurred Saturday and could be the dagger for Desjardins' shot at making the Rangers after he signed a tryout contract with the team on Sept. 13. He'll serve the suspension during the preseason during New York's final two tune-up games against Philadelphia, and he could very well be released prior to the season opener against Colorado on Oct. 5.

  • Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Hearing scheduled with Department of Player Safety

Desjardins will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for an illegal check to the head on New Jersey's Miles Wood.

Desjardins is attending the Rangers' training camp on a professional tryout agreement, and he was already considered a long shot to make their roster before Saturday's incident, so it wouldn't be surprising to see New York cut ties with the veteran forward in a timely manner. If the Rangers send him packing, Desjardins may need to head overseas to continue his career.

  • Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Secures PTO with Rangers

Desjardins agreed to a professional tryout contract with the Rangers on Wednesday, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports.

The 31-year-old center will report to New York's training camp, where he'll be fighting with the likes of David Desharnais, Bobby Farnham and Matt Puempel for a spot on the fourth line. Having spent the entirety of his career with San Jose and Chicago up to this point, Desjardins brings playoff experience that includes winning the Stanley Cup in 2015. When at his best, Desjardins is gritty, hardworking, and tough to play against. While these characteristics are valuable in the game of hockey, Desjardins won't add much from a fantasy perspective even if he does stick with the Rangers.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Doesn't travel with team

Desjardins (lower body) didn't make the trip to Nashville, effectively ruling him out for Tuesday's tilt, Brian Hedger of The Athletic reports.

The winger has missed the last three games, dating back to the season finale, and hasn't suited up yet for the playoffs. With only a single point in 46 regular-season games, when he does get back on the ice he won't be much of a fantasy threat.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Nearing return

Desjardins (lower body) is close to returning but isn't expected to play in Game 2 against Nashville on Saturday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Desjardins hasn't skated yet, but coach Joel Quenneville says he is close to returning. In 46 games this season, the pivot recorded only one assist and was minus-6. It remains to be seen if he would even dress when healthy.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Not expected to play Thursday

Desjardins (lower body) isn't in the projected lineup for Thursday's Game 1 against Nashville.

Desjardins only tallied a single assist in 46 games this season, so he likely would've been a healthy scratch Thursday even if he wasn't still dealing with a lower-body ailment. At this juncture, there's no telling when Desjardins may return to game action.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Out Saturday

Desjardins (lower body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Kings, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Desjardins has frequently been a healthy scratch this season and has only tallied a single assist in 46 contests, so he isn't a desirable option in any fantasy format. His next chance to return to the lineup won't come until Game 1 of the playoffs, but there's no guarantee he'll dress for that one, even if he's healthy.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Receives day-to-day label

Desjardins is listed as day-to-day due to a lower-body injury, Eric Lear of Blackhawks TV reports.

Desjardins' injury comes in the wake of Chicago's 4-0 loss to Anaheim on Thursday and makes his status for Saturday's regular-season finale in Los Angeles unclear at the moment. That said, Desjardins has frequently been a healthy scratch this season and shouldn't be considered in the majority of fantasy formats anyway.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Pointless through 31 games

Desjardins hasn't tallied a single point in 31 games this season.

Desjardins is a decent fourth-line grinder for the Blackhawks, but his non-existent offensive production keeps him from being a practical option in any fantasy format.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Will be scratched again Sunday

Desjardins will be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Stars, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.

Desjardins is now fine to play following a lower-body injury but head coach Joel Quenneville is opting not to tinker with his lineup. He's a fringe player at best and had just 13 points in 77 games last year, so even once he cracks the lineup for his season debut he's not likely to make much of a fantasy impact.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Activated from injured reserve

The Blackhawks activated Desjardins (lower body) from injured reserve Saturday.

Desjardins has already been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Stars, but should be ready to return to the lineup for Sunday's matchup with Dallas. The veteran winger's limited offensive upside and bottom-six role keep him from being a viable option in most fantasy leagues, but his return to action should help improve Chicago's primary penalty killing-unit, which has struggled early on this season.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Won't play Saturday, but could return Sunday

Coach Joel Quenneville told reporters Saturday he's hopeful Desjardins (lower body) will be able to play Sunday against the Stars, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.

Desjardins isn't a viable option in most fantasy leagues due to his limited offensive upside and bottom-six role, but his return to action should dramatically improve Chicago's primary penalty-killing unit, which has struggled early on this season. The Blackhawks should provide another update on Desjardins' status ahead of puck drop Sunday evening.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Targeting weekend return

Desjardins (lower body) is hoping to rejoin the lineup for one of the games against Dallas either Saturday or Sunday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.

While it's no guarantee he will be available for either of the contests, at least a timeline has been placed on the blueliner. Desjardins can essentially be ruled out for the team's next to tilts and more updates should surface as the dates draw closer.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Returns to practice Sunday, timetable still unclear

Desjardins (lower body) returned to practice for morning skate Sunday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.

While Desjardins will not return to the lineup Sunday, it appears things are at least moving in the correct direction and coach Joel Quenneville relayed after the session that he will be reevaluated in a couple of days. The forward has been sidelined since early October and will need to be activated from injured reserve prior to his insertion into the lineup, but it appears that could be on the horizon.

  • Blackhawks' Andrew Desjardins: Ruled out at least four weeks

Desjardins (lower body) will miss 4-to-6 weeks coach Joel Quenneville announced Monday.

Desjardins was placed on injured reserve in order to clear up space for the Opening Night roster. The winger's limited production, 13 points in 77 outsing last season, makes him a low-end fantasy option. The 30-year-old's value drops even further when considering his lack of minutes on the power play.
