Desjardins was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Rangers on Tuesday.
Desjardins never saw any regular-season action with the Rangers after being suspended for two preseason games following an illegal check. The Ontario native has mostly been a fourth-line filler wherever he has gone, but there are still teams out there that could use one of those. Regardless, he's not a fantasy asset in the majority of formats.

Unfortunately for Desjardins, the suspension may have cost him a shot at securing a permanent contract from the Rangers, as he is currently in camp on a professional tryout. Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Suspended for two exhibition games
Desjardins was assessed a two-game suspension Monday for his illegal check to the head of New Jersey's Miles Wood.
The incident occurred Saturday and could be the dagger for Desjardins' shot at making the Rangers after he signed a tryout contract with the team on Sept. 13. He'll serve the suspension during the preseason during New York's final two tune-up games against Philadelphia, and he could very well be released prior to the season opener against Colorado on Oct. 5.

Desjardins will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for an illegal check to the head on New Jersey's Miles Wood.
Desjardins is attending the Rangers' training camp on a professional tryout agreement, and he was already considered a long shot to make their roster before Saturday's incident, so it wouldn't be surprising to see New York cut ties with the veteran forward in a timely manner. If the Rangers send him packing, Desjardins may need to head overseas to continue his career.

Rangers' Andrew Desjardins: Secures PTO with Rangers
Desjardins agreed to a professional tryout contract with the Rangers on Wednesday, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports.
The 31-year-old center will report to New York's training camp, where he'll be fighting with the likes of David Desharnais, Bobby Farnham and Matt Puempel for a spot on the fourth line. Having spent the entirety of his career with San Jose and Chicago up to this point, Desjardins brings playoff experience that includes winning the Stanley Cup in 2015. When at his best, Desjardins is gritty, hardworking, and tough to play against. While these characteristics are valuable in the game of hockey, Desjardins won't add much from a fantasy perspective even if he does stick with the Rangers.

While Desjardins will not return to the lineup Sunday, it appears things are at least moving in the correct direction and coach Joel Quenneville relayed after the session that he will be reevaluated in a couple of days.
