Nikolay Kulemin: Inks deal with KHL squad
Kulemin will play for Magnitogorsk of the KHL in 2018-19, Arthur Staple of The Athletic New York reports.
After sitting out a majority of the season due to a shoulder injury, Kulemin will venture overseas to his hometown, Magnitogorsk, in order to continue his hockey career. The 31-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 anyway. Kulemin had been a bottom-six player for most of his NHL time, only surpassing 30 points once over the last seven seasons for the Islanders and Maple Leafs.

Islanders' Nikolay Kulemin: Could have played in postseason
Kulemin (shoulder) told reporters he would have been ready for the playoffs if the Islanders had qualified, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Kulemin's shoulder injury caused him to miss 67 straight games dating back to Nov. 7. In his limited action (13 games), the winger recorded one goal, two helpers and seven shots. A free agent this offseason, the 31-year-old should be capable of reaching the 20-point mark in 2018-19 if he can stay healthy.

Kulemin (shoulder) practiced and rotated into the line rushes Monday, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
Kulemin wasn't among the changes listed by Coach Doug Weight for Tuesday's lineup, so it's safe to assume he will need to get a few more practices under the belt before being considered for an addition to the lineup. Other than Ross Johnston subbing in for Cal Clutterbuck (migraines), the lines are expected to remain the same for Tuesday's matchup. A more definitive timeline for Kulemin's return should surface as he draws closer to rejoining the lineup.

Islanders' Nikolay Kulemin: Expected to return to full practice shortly
Kulemin (shoulder) is expected to return to a full practice within the next five days, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Kulemin has been out of the lineup since undergoing shoulder surgery in mid-November. His return to practice would seem to indicate that the Islanders won't shut him down for the remainder of the season, but will instead plug him into the lineup once he is medically cleared to play. New York's penalty killing has been at a loss since Kulemin has been injured, and that is likely where he will serve the team best.

Kulemin (shoulder) skated with the team during an optional practice Friday.
Kulemin has been out since undergoing surgery in mid-November. His loss has been felt mainly on the penalty kill as he was one of the most valuable members on that unit. Coach Doug Weight has stated that Kulemin is still weeks away from returning, but with his contract up at the end of the season and the Islanders' playoff situation looking murky at best, it's fair to wonder if the team would be better off starting younger players over veterans like Kulemin anyway.

According to coach Doug Weight, Kulemin (shoulder) will be sidelined a minimum of three additional weeks, Arthur Staple of the Athletic New York reports.
Initial reports coming out of Long Island had Kulemin nearing a return, but it appears those were either premature or the winger suffered a setback. Given his new timeline, the Russian wil have about 10 games to get ready for postseason action and figures to be out long enough to make him irrelevant in season-long fantasy formats.

Kulemin is ahead of schedule as he rehabs a shoulder injury, according to Islanders coach Doug Weight, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
While he remains without a clear timetable for his return, the prognosis keeps improving for Kulemin, who was able to get back on the practice rink in mid-January. Of course, even when healthy, the Russian was turning in campaigns in the low 20-point range for the Islanders. Take that for what it's worth in the fantasy arena.

When Kulemin underwent shoulder surgery on Nov. 7 it was thought that his regular season was over. A return to the ice doesn't mean he is close to being able to play, but it could mean that a return before the end of the regular season could be in line for Kulemin. The Isles have missed him more than some would think as he was one of their best penalty killers, an area that has been a major detriment to the team this season.

It's a good thing that the Islanders are otherwise stacked with offensive producers on the left wing -- they have Anders Lee, Andrew Ladd and Brock Nelson hanging in the top nine -- because the bench boss sounds downright discouraged by Kulemin's prognosis. It's worth moving Kulemin to the fantasy IR slot if you haven't done so already.

The Isles wasted little time sending the Russian to IR, considering his ailment surfaced in Tuesday evening's contest against the Oilers. Given how the Isles only have two games scheduled for the duration of Kulemin's projected absence, we wouldn't let this news ruin your day, especially since he's a low-end winger at a relatively deep position.

Kulemin won't return to Tuesday's game against the Oilers due to an upper-body injury, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
Kulemin took a nasty hit from Eric Gryba in the second period Tuesday, and Gryba was sent to the sin bin for boarding. As he went up the tunnel, it appeared Kulemin was favoring his left arm, but no specific information has been released. The 31-year-old winger will have until Friday to recover for a matchup with Dallas, but if he's unable to get healthy, Alan Quine (upper body) will likely be ready to step back into the lineup.

Ladies and gentlemen, we finally have a Kulemin sighting. The Russian tripled his point total with this performance, but unfortunately he still only has one goal and a pair of assists on the season. His bottom-six role isn't conducive to generating much offense, and we feel that his strong effort Monday will prove to be more of an aberration than the start of a new trend.

Kulemin is off to a slow start this season with no goals and a single assist in six games.
Kulemin has proven to be an extremely poor signing by general manager Garth Snow, as he only has 36 goals in 241 games over four seasons with the Islanders. He has been relegated to a checking role on the fourth line, but it's fair to wonder if the Isles will eventually designate him a healthy scratch in what is likely his final season with the team.
