Alex Pietrangelo, the top defenseman for the St. Louis Blues this season, had to leave Saturday's game late in the second period after he was hit from behind by Los Angeles forward Dwight King.

King shoved Pietrangelo from behind, resulting in the Blues defenseman slamming face first into the boards. He suffered a cut and did not return to the game.

King was penalized two minutes for boarding, and it's kind of surprising that he didn't get more based on the fact that Pietrangelo was noticeably bleeding and had to leave the game with an injury. As we've seen throughout the regular season and playoffs that may very well factor into whether or not the NHL hands out any supplemental discipline before Game 2 on Monday.

Not only did the Blues lose one of their top players as a result of the hit, they also gave up a shorthanded goal to Matt Greene on the ensuing power play.
