Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Game 5 (Flyers Lead 3-2)

Penguins 3, Flyers 2 (Recap, Box Score)

No1 Star

Marc-Andre Fleury. I'm not sure I was ready to say this after the second period because at that point he had only faced 12 shots, allowed two goals, and still didn't look all that strong (the Flyers even hit a couple of posts early on). But in the third period, for the first time in the entire series, a goalie actually stepped up and won a game for one of these teams. Fleury stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third period, many of them scoring chances, and played his best hockey of the series.

TurningPoint

With the Flyers already leading 1-0 in the first period they had a three-on-one opportunity on a penalty kill and failed to score. Just seconds later Steve Sullivan scored a power play goal to tie the game at one. That's a pretty big swing early in the game.

It Was

A normal playoff game? After four straight games of comebacks and crazy scores, this game actually looked like the type of game we expect to see two teams play in the playoffs. Low scoring, tight checking and kind of defensive. Nobody expected that coming in, I'm sure. But then again, everything in this series has been unexpected.
