Player Outlook
The Browns were one of the worst defenses in Fantasy last year and we don't expect the additions of Mason Graham, Carson Schwesinger, and Maliek Collins to change that. To make matters worse, they open the season with Joe Burrow in Week 1 and and Lamar Jackson in Week 2. You can avoid this defense on draft day and wait to see if the rookies make any impact at all. The first time you might want to stream them is Week 6 against the Steelers, but they will need to show improvement before we'd risk that.

  • Ogbonnia Okoronkwo: Let go by Browns

Cleveland released Okoronkwo on Thursday, Kelsey Russo of the team's official site reports. Okoronkwo had been under contract with the Browns for one more season via the three-year, $19 million deal he inked with the team in 2023, so his release is somewhat surprising even after a down year in 2024. He played a sizable rotational role in Cleveland's pass rush in both 2023 and 2024, finishing last year with 23 tackles (15 solo), including 3.0 sacks, plus one forced fumble while playing all 17 regular-season games. Okoronkwo will draw fair interest around the league for teams in need of a rotational contributor, and his departure opens up opportunities behind Myles Garrett with the Browns for all of Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire.

  • Browns' Denzel Ward: Drilling during OTAs

Ward (shoulder) participated during OTAs on Tuesday, Kennedy Rodriguez of the Browns' official site reports. Ward sat out Cleveland's last game of the 2024 season with a shoulder issue, but it appears to have cleared up in time for offseason workouts. He earned Pro Bowl honors last year after tallying a career-high 19 passes defensed, and he projects to start again in 2025 alongside Greg Newsome and Martin Emerson.

  • Browns' Martin Emerson: Working in OTAs

Emerson (ankle) participated during OTAs on Tuesday, Kennedy Rodriguez of the Browns' official site reports. Emerson left Cleveland's last game of the 2024 campaign early with an ankle injury, but it doesn't seem to have carried over into the offseason. He's now entering the final year of his rookie deal after recording a career-high 80 tackles last season. He figures to start alongside Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome in 2025.

  • Browns' Jordan Hicks: Getting in practice reps

Hicks (concussion) participated during OTAs on Tuesday, Kennedy Rodriguez of the Browns' official site reports. Hicks sat out the last game of Cleveland's 2024 season due to a concussion, but he's healthy again for offseason workouts. The veteran was playing a near every-down role by the end of last year, and he projects to play a major role again in 2025. However, the Browns added competition in the draft in the form of second-rounder Carson Schwesinger, who could cut into Hicks' snap count.

He projects to start again in 2025 alongside Martin Emerson and reigning Pro Bowler Denzel Ward.

  • Browns' Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah: Shifts to PUP list

The Browns placed Owusu-Koramoah (neck) on the reserve/PUP list Monday. The 2021 second-round pick from Notre Dame missed the Browns' final nine games in 2024 due to a neck injury, and he'll now miss all of 2025 as he continues to recover. Owusu-Koramoah has been one of Cleveland's most impactful defenders over the past two seasons, recording 162 total tackles, including 6.5 sacks, nine passes defended and two forced fumbles across 24 regular-season games. With the 25-year-old expected to be sidelined for the entire season, 2019 first-round pick Devin Bush is projected to step in and serve as one of the Browns' top insider linebackers.

  • Brady Breeze: Gets shot with Carolina

Breeze (undisclosed) will try out for the Panthers this weekend, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. The 2021 sixth-round pick from Oregon was dropped by the Browns with an undisclosed injury in late August 2024, but his forthcoming tryout with the Panthers this weekend suggests he's moved past the issue. Breeze most recently appeared in an NFL regular-season game with Lions in 2022, playing 40 special-teams snaps and failing to record a stat across two contests.

  • Browns' Alex Wright: Medically cleared to play

Wright (triceps) has been medically cleared to play, Scott Petrak of the BrownsZone reports. Wright is now healthy again after suffering a torn triceps last October, which forced him to miss the final 13 games of the regular season. He will likely spend the remainder of the offseason competing for a roster spot and can add value as both a depth defender and as a special teamer.

  • Browns' Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah: Possible meaning with draft pick

The Browns' selection of Carson Schwesinger with the 33rd overall pick in the NFL Draft suggests the club does not expect Owusu-Koramoah (neck) to be available to play in 2025, Zac Jackson and RJ Kraft of The Athletic report. Given multiple needs on offense, that the Browns took a linebacker this high in the draft potentially means Owusu-Koramoah is not expected back following a serious neck injury. There has been little update on his prognosis during the offseason. Following the selection of Schwesinger, the Browns addressed needs at tight end, running back and quarterback through the draft already.

  • Browns' Mason Graham: Browns nab after trade back

The Brown selected Graham in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, fifth overall. The Browns traded back from the second pick, where the Jaguars paid big for the privilege of selecting Travis Hunter. Graham was a consensus top-10 projected pick going into the draft, but it's a still a slight surprise to see him go fifth overall ahead of some arguably splashier names. Graham (6-foot-4, 306 pounds) was the anchor of a smothering Michigan defense the last three years, standing out as the best player in a unit that almost never lost. Graham is an all-purpose defensive tackle who can either occupy space or split gaps to disrupt in the backfield, so he'll shore up both the Cleveland run defense and pass rush.

  • Browns' Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah: In building for voluntary OTAs

Owusu-Koramoah (neck) is present Tuesday for the start of voluntary OTAs, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports. Owusu-Koramoah's activity level has yet to be disclosed, and his attendance doesn't necessarily indicate he's been cleared for on-field activities. The 25-year-old linebacker suffered a season-ending neck injury last October after colliding with Derrick Henry, and Browns general manager Andrew Berry referred to Owusu-Koramoah's recovery progress as "nebulous" last Thursday. Officially, he still remains without a timeline for his return, which could remain the case until training camp.

The linebacker played in 16 regular-season games with Cleveland in 2024, recording 23 total tackles (15 solo), including 0.5 sacks, while also adding two passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Reid will likely operate as a depth option at middle linebacker behind Jordan Hicks (concussion) in 2025.

  • Browns' Mike Hall: Had offseason knee surgery

Browns GM Andrew Berry said Monday that Hall did require offseason knee surgery, and Hall is expected to miss the offseason program, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Hall suffered a neck stinger last August and then was involved in a domestic violence issue that led to a five-game suspension. He later missed time with a knee issue, and Hall went on to play in just eight games as a rookie. He finished the year with 14 tackles (eight solo), including 1.0 sacks. Hall should be ready to go for the start of training camp later this summer.

  • Browns' Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah: Timeline still unclear

Browns GM Andrew Berry said Sunday that there's still no timeframe on Owusu-Koramoah's recovery from his season-ending neck injury, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Berry added that Owusu-Koramoah is progressing in a positive direction, but it's still "week to week and month to month" when determining when/if he'll return for the 2025 season. The linebacker was checked into the hospital after he suffered a significant neck injury Week 8 versus the Rams. In eight games last season, Owusu-Koramoah posted 61 tackles, including three sacks, and one interception, and he logged a career-high 144 tackles across 16 regular-season games in 2023.

Brown has played for four teams since entering the league in 2018, starting just five of the 67 games he's appeared in.

Thornhill appeared in 22 games over his last two seasons in Cleveland, recording 103 total tackles and four passes defended. Now in Pittsburgh, the 29-year-old is expected to compete with DeShon Elliott for a starting safety position alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick.

  • Dalvin Tomlinson: Designated as post-June 1 cut

The Browns released Tomlinson on Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. The move was expected, but the Browns had to wait for the new league year to start in order to designate the veteran defensive tackle as a post-June 1 cut. With the move, Cleveland clears more than $6.4 million in cap space but incurs $5.042 million in dead money. The 31-year-old started all 16 regular-season games in which he appeared last season, ringing up 26 tackles (13 solo), including 3.0 sacks. He's started all 125 games he's appeared in across eight seasons in the league and should be able to find work elsewhere.
