The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to sign journeyman forward Anthony Tolliver to a one-year veteran's minimum deal, according to FoxSportsFlorida.com.
Tolliver, 27, spent the past two seasons coming off the bench for the Timberwolves and said Minnesota did not move to retain him. He also said that the Phoenix Suns were "in the mix."
"I just thought [Atlanta] was the best situation for me,’" Tolliver said. "I just think they don’t have a lot of players like me. I think it’s a great opportunity.’"
"It’s a business. [Minnesota] told me they were looking to bring me back ... but they never really offered me anything. They had said signing me was a priority, but at the end of the day they didn’t move forward. Everything happens for a reason. It’s all part of the business."
The tweener forward holds career averages of 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during a career that also included stops with the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, and Golden State Warriors.
Tolliver will join a familiar Hawks frontline that gets All-Star center Al Horford back after an injury that kept him out for much of the 2011-12 season. Atlanta also Josh Smith, Zaza Pachulia and Ivan Johnson. Tolliver figures to join reserve forward Mike Scott to provide depth behind that group. Kyle Korver, acquired in a summer trade from the Chicago Bulls, is penciled in as the starting small forward.
