Going, going, gone Gomes.
The Los Angeles Clippers have announced the release of reserve forward Ryan Gomes using the amnesty clause on Tuesday.
The Clippers faced an 11:59 p.m. deadline to use the amnesty clause. The decision came in just before the deadline.
Gomes, 29, was entering the final year of a contract that was to pay him $4 million for the 2012-13 season. He averaged 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 32 appearances for the Clippers last season.
The Clippers will now get to remove his salary from their books for salary cap and luxury tax purposes although Gomes will be paid in full. Gomes will enter a bidding pool comprised of teams that are under the salary cap. If no one claims him, he will be an unrestricted free agent.
Gomes was extraneous after the Clippers agreed to sign veteran forward Grant Hill earlier Tuesday.
