Top Tarik Skubal News

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Early season struggles continue

Story went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during the Red Sox's 4-1 loss to the Tigers on Saturday.

Story served as the designated hitter for Saturday's bout, though that shift didn't pay off as he struck out in all three of his at-bats against Tarik Skubal. Story has gone 0-for-9 with six strikeouts over the first two games of the series and is slashing .188/.202/.306 with one steal, two home runs, 17 RBI and a 30.6 percent strikeout rate over 89 plate appearances this season.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Idle Saturday

Dingler is not in the Tigers' starting lineup against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Dingler will take a breather after going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Friday's extra-inning loss to Boston. Jake Rogers will start behind home plate and bat ninth while catching pitches from Tarik Skubal.

  • Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Dazzles at Fenway Park

Skubal (3-2) earned the win against the Red Sox on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 across six innings.

Skubal hit the ground running in Saturday's start, striking out the side in two of his first four innings while retiring 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. He dealt with some adversity in the fifth and sixth frames but yielded only one run on six total baserunners. He has four quality starts through five outings with a 2.08 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 30.1 innings, and his 33 strikeouts are tied with Gavin Williams for fourth most in the American League. Skubal is lined up to face the Brewers at home next week.

  • Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Regains form in second win

Skubal (2-2) earned the win Sunday against the Marlins, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out seven.

It was an excellent bounce-back performance for the All-Star southpaw, who was knocked around for a season-worst eight runs against the Twins his last time out. Skubal poured in 62 of his 96 pitches for strikes on the afternoon, and it was the third time already in 2026 that he fired at least six frames while yielding one run or zero. Skubal is taking a stellar 2.22 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB into his next appearance, which is slated to come in Boston versus the Red Sox.

  • Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Falls apart in fifth frame

Skubal (1-2) took the loss against the Twins on Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven across 4.2 innings.

Skubal opened things up by striking out four of the first seven batters he faced. He kept the Twins off the board through four frames, but things fell apart for the reigning AL Cy Young winner in the fifth, when he yielded four runs on three hits and two walks before being pulled. Skubal gave up just one earned run through his first two starts of the season, so Tuesday's outing can be considered a blip on the radar for the 29-year-old southpaw. He still generated 19 whiffs while recording 65 strikes on 95 pitches (68.4 percent). Skubal's next start is tentatively slated for this weekend at home against the Marlins.

  • Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Tough-luck loss Wednesday

Skubal (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on six hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out three.

The All-Star left-hander certainly wasn't deserving of the loss, but the Tigers were shut out Wednesday. Skubal had the Arizona bats off balance throughout the outing, inducing 10 groundouts while pouring in 60 of his 87 pitches for strikes, but Corbin Carroll managed to take Skubal deep in the first innings for the game's lone run. Skubal has permitted a single run on the campaign to go with a pristine 9:0 K:BB through 13 innings so far, and he'll look to keep dealing his next time out versus the Twins in Minnesota.

  • Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Kicks off season with victory

Skubal (1-0) earned the win over San Diego on Thursday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings.

Skubal already had a 4-0 lead when he took the mound in the bottom of the first inning, and the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner never let the Padres get back into the game. He didn't yield a run until the sixth frame, and that came about only after a fielding error behind him. Skubal tossed 49 of 74 pitches for strikes and racked up 11 whiffs while cruising toward a season-opening victory. It was a major improvement upon his start to 2025, when he went 0-2 in his first two outings and gave up seven runs over 10.2 frames. Skubal is tentatively slated to make his second start next Wednesday in Arizona.
