Greene went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays.
The Orlando native put on a show for friends and family in Tampa Bay, launching a solo shot to center field off Ryan Pepiot in the third inning before crushing a Colin Poche fastball to left-center in the eighth for a game-winning, two-run blast. Greene snapped a 14-game homer drought with the performance, but he appears poised on the brink of an offensive eruption -- his 20.6 percent walk rate is more than double last year's mark, while his Statcast page is covered in red ink as he sits in the 99th percentile in barrel rate and 91st percentile in xwOBA. That's translated into a .247/.402/.506 slash line through 102 plate appearances with five homers, 11 RBI and 20 runs.

Tigers' Riley Greene: Receives breather Friday

While Greene's batting average is still a bit underwhelming at .239, his .849 OPS is stronger due to eight extra-base knocks through 19 games. In fact, exactly half of the outfielder's hits have gone for extra bases so far. Greene is heating up, and with his ability to leg out doubles or hit the ball over the wall, he should be primed for good numbers the rest of the way.

Greene moved up to the leadoff spot for the first time this season and responded with a strong game. Perhaps the lineup shuffle will jump-start the 23-year-old, as he's still batting just .214. However, Greene does have a solid .829 OPS, and if he continues to make consistent contact, huge numbers could be right around the corner.

Greene is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff Friday against the Twins.
The 23-year-old has primarily hit out of the cleanup spot this season but has also hit second and third, and he'll now make his way to the top of the lineup. Parker Meadows had served as Detroit's leadoff man against right-handed pitching to this point, but it appears his 2-for-25 start is getting him bumped down the order. Greene should see a boost in runs atop the order, though that'll likely be at the expense of RBI.

Greene did most of his damage in the first game, when he launched his second home run of the young season in the eighth inning. The outfielder is scuffling a bit with a .143 average across six contests, though two of his three total hits so far have left the yard. Greene should get that batting average up, and if he keeps hitting for power, he should be able to put up big numbers.

Greene's first home run of the year in the seventh inning helped the Tigers erase a 6-4 deficit in the frame and force extra innings. Greene's spring debut was delayed slightly as he recovered from his September Tommy John surgery, but the talented outfielder has hit the ground running. He's gone 7-for-20 in nine Grapefruit League contests, with three of those hits going for extra bases. Greene looks ready for the regular season, and the toolsy 23-year-old could be poised for a breakout campaign if he stays healthy.
