Langeliers is hitting .261 (6-for-23) with a double, a home run, three RBI, a walk, a hit by pitch and five runs across nine Cactus League games. Langeliers, the Athletics' projected Opening Day catcher after the trade of Sean Murphy to Atlanta in December, had a quick start to his spring but has gone 0-for-8 over his last three exhibitions. The 25-year-old posted just a .218 average and middling .691 OPS across his first 153 big-league plate appearances in 2022, and the hope is the exposure he got to major-league arms and his added reps this spring will help him significantly pare down the 34.6 percent strikeout rate he generated in that sample. Results are slightly encouraging on that front thus far in Cactus League play, as Langeliers has struck out seven times in 26 spring training PAs.... See More ... See Less

Langeliers is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's season finale versus the Angels. Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Crushes two homers
Langeliers went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and a walk in Sunday's 10-3 win over the Mariners. Langeliers provided the Athletics' first and last scoring plays in the game. He hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and a three-run blast in the ninth. The catcher went yard three times in as many games in this weekend series versus the Mariners while snapping his 20-game power drought Friday. He's up to six long balls, 20 RBI, 14 runs scored and a .222/.246/.444 slash line through 37 contests in his major-league career.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Accounts for lone run in loss
Langeliers went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Mariners. Langeliers' second-inning blast was one of three hits for the Athletics, and he produced their lone run in the low-scoring game. The catcher has gone 8-for-26 (.308) with four doubles, a homer and three RBI in his last seven games. For the year, the rookie is up to a .219/.239/.406 slash line with four homers, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, 10 doubles and a triple through 134 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Doubles in third straight
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Mets on Sunday, his third straight game with a two-bagger. The rookie filled in at DH on Sunday and continued to put good wood on the ball after also belting doubles Thursday and Saturday. Langeliers' .211/.233/.386 slash line over his first 120 big-league plate appearances leaves plenty to be desired, but he's now laced 13 of his 24 hits for extra bases.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Multi-hit effort in loss
Langeliers went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a loss to the Mariners on Thursday. The rookie's third-inning two-bagger plated Stephen Vogt to snap a 3-3 tie. Langeliers has been enjoying regular playing time behind the dish and at designated hitter but is still struggling to make consistent contact against big-league arms -- he's struck out at a massive 41.4 percent clip over 16 games during the month, and Thursday's multi-hit effort was his first since Sept. 1.... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Another clutch hit Sunday
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in a win over the Orioles on Sunday. Langeliers' third-inning single plated both Vimael Machin and Stephen Vogt, staking the Athletics to a 3-0 lead at the time. The rookie now has a trio of multi-RBI efforts in his last nine games thanks to a .375 average across eight plate appearances with runners in scoring position during that span.... See More ... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Drives in three
Langeliers went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI on Thursday against the Nationals. Langeliers led off the fifth inning with his third career homer. Five frames later, he delivered a two-RBI double that gave Oakland a short-lived lead. Entering the game, Langeliers was hitless across his last 13 at-bats with seven strikeouts. In 58 big-league plate appearances, Langeliers has maintained a .232/.241/.518 with a 43.1 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less -

Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Shines against Yankees
Langeliers went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday. Oakland trailed by 10 runs through five innings before Langeliers provided a murmur of protest with his solo shot to left field in the sixth. The catcher knocked in another run with an infield single in the seventh, and he finished with the second three-hit performance of his young career. Though Sean Murphy remains the Athletics' primary catcher, Langeliers has made enough of a positive impression that he's frequently been used in the DH slot. The 24-year-old is slashing .294/.306/.647 with two homers, four doubles and seven RBI across his first nine major-league contests.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Three hits Sunday
Langeliers went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's win over Seattle. Langeliers got the start at catcher Sunday and made the most of it with the first multi-hit game of his young career. The rookie is now slashing .316/.300/.737 since being called up Aug. 16. It has not been all great for the rookie, however, as with another strikeout Sunday, he has struck out in each of the five games he has started and failed to record a walk, leading to his average being higher than his on-base percentage.... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Sitting Saturday
Langeliers is not in Saturday's lineup against the Mariners. He has played pretty regularly since getting the call earlier this week, primarily as the designated hitter. Langeliers is 3-for-15, with all three of his hits going for extra bases (two doubles, one home run). He has struck out eight times in 16 plate appearances. Stephen Vogt slots in at designated hitter while batting cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Plays first game behind dish
Langeliers drew his first big-league start at catcher in a loss to the Rangers on Thursday, going 1-for-4 with a double and a run. The rookie backstop also threw out Marcus Semien on an attempted steal of second base in the first inning and had three assists overall in the first three frames, per the Associated Press. Langeliers has gotten off to a hot start with his bat against big-league arms, with all three of his hits over his first three games going for extra bases (two doubles and a home run).... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Possible waiver wire pickups
Langeliers may be the Athletics' catcher of the future, but he's started back-to-back games at DH after getting the call Tuesday, going 2 for 8 with a home run, a double and five strikeouts. For Fantasy, we don't so much care where he plays as long as he's playing, and if the Athletics see him as a viable option for their DH spot, it may even mean he plays more regularly than the average catcher-eligible player. It doesn't take much production to matter at that position, and Langeliers certainly has the capacity for it, namely by hitting for power. The hit tool may be a bit lacking, with the early strikeout surplus perhaps serving as a warning sign, but at least in two-catcher leagues, the prize of the Matt Olson trade is already worth a flier.... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Launches first career home run
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Rangers. Langliers crushed an 0-2 curveball over the right-field fence in the eighth inning for his first career home run. The rookie now has extra-base hits in each of his two starts this season, picking up right where he left off in Triple-A, where he maintained a .510 slugging percentage. Oakland currently boasts one of the better offensive catchers in the majors in Sean Murphy, so Langliers figures to continue filling in as the designated hitter or slotting in behind the dish during Murphy's off days.... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Hits double in debut
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three strikeouts in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Athletics. Langeliers was able to get a few milestones checked off in his big-league debut, including his first hit and first run. Despite three strikeouts Tuesday, the 24-year-old shouldn't struggle in a major way with contact -- he struck out at a 21.9 percent clip while slashing .283/.366/.510 with 19 home runs, 56 RBI, 62 runs scored and five stolen bases with Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his call-up. The catching prospect is a solid defender and should get a long audition for an everyday role, sharing time with current No. 1 catcher Sean Murphy behind the dish and at designated hitter for the remainder of the season.... Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Should get late-season promotion
Athletics general manager David Forst said Monday that he expects Langeliers to receive a promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas before the end of the season, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Since Oakland will already have to add Langeliers to its 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, the organization appears motivated to at least give him a late-season look in the majors to see if he's ready to take over the No. 1 catcher's role from Sean Murphy, who could be traded this winter as he heads into his first year of arbitration. At least at the plate, Langeliers looks deserving of a stiffer test, as he's slashing .281/.362/.513 with 38 extra-base hits and five stolen bases while maintaining a 22.3 percent strikeout rate across 381 plate appearances for Las Vegas. Langeliers has also drawn favorable reviews for his work defensively, which should help his case for playing regularly even if he gets off to a slow start with the bat to begin his big-league career. Forst didn't specify when Langeliers' call-up might come, but the 24-year-old at least makes for an appealing pickup for fantasy managers in deeper leagues who can afford a luxury stash....
