Rutschman (illness) is starting at catcher and batting second Saturday against Boston. Rutschman was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game due to illness, but the issue seems to have subsided ahead of Saturday's contest. The 25-year-old backstop has gone 7-for-17 with a homer and four RBI over his last five games and will attempt to remain hot as the Orioles prepare for a postseason run.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Likely available Saturday
Manager Brandon Hyde said Rutschman (illness) will probably be available for Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. James McCann filled in at catcher and went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts in Baltimore's sleepy 3-0 loss to Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Scratched from lineup Friday
Rutschman was scratched from the lineup Friday versus the Red Sox due to an illness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Rutschman has no need to push himself to play through the bug after the Orioles officially clinched the AL East title Thursday. James McCann is now catching and batting eighth Friday against the Red Sox and right-hander Nick Pivetta.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Homers, collects three RBI
Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Nationals. Rutschman jumped on a hanging four-seamer from Patrick Corbin in the bottom of the third and crushed it over the wall in left-center field to put the Orioles on top 2-0. The star catcher would then tack on another run with an RBI single in the fifth as Baltimore went on to win its fourth straight. Rutschman has now recorded multiple hits in four of his last six games while the home run marked his fourth this month and 20th on the season. He's also drawn at least one walk in four consecutive games.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Racks up three hits
Rutschman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Guardians. Rutschman has hit safely in five straight games, and he has at least one double in his last four contests. The catcher is slashing .273/.368/.430 with 19 home runs, 75 RBI, 82 runs scored, one stolen base and 29 doubles through 146 contests overall. After a stint as the leadoff hitter, Rutschman has returned to the No. 2 spot in the order.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Gets breather Tuesday
Rutschman isn't in the Orioles' lineup Tuesday versus Houston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Despite collecting five hits across his last three games, Rutschman will take a seat to begin Tuesday's contest. James McCann will instead start behind the plate and bat eighth.... See More ... Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Three hits, homer in win
Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-4 victory over the Rays. Rustchman cut Baltimore's deficit to 3-2 in the eighth inning with his 19th homer of the year, a solo shot off Pete Fairbanks. He added a second RBI with a base hit in the 10th before scoring the winning run in the 11th. It's Rustchman's first multi-hit game since Sept. 8 -- he'd been slumping a bit of late, going 4-for-29 (.138) over his previous eight games. Overall, the 25-year-old catcher is batting .270 with a .789 OPS, 79 runs scored and 73 RBI through 639 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -

Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Friday's 11-2 win over the Red Sox. The backstop played a big role in the rout, and he capped his night by hooking a solo shot off John Schreiber just inside Pesky's Pole in the eighth inning. Rutschman is having a strong finish to his second MLB season, slashing .290/.367/.443 through 33 games since the beginning of August with four of his 18 homers and 23 of his 70 RBI on the season.... Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Goes deep Saturday
Rutschman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a 7-3 win over Arizona on Saturday. Rutschman plated a run with a fourth-inning single and tacked on another with a seventh-inning solo shot. The long ball snapped a 19-game homerless stretch for the catcher, who had just three extra-base hits (all doubles) over 75 at-bats during that drought. Rutschman nonetheless has maintained a solid .274/.366/.424 slash line on the campaign while exceeding his rookie totals with 17 home runs, 64 RBI and 71 runs over 577 plate appearances.... Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Gets rare day off
Rutschman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox. Rutschman often serves as a designated hitter on days that he doesn't catch, but he'll get a proper day off Wednesday in what marks just his third absence from the lineup since the All-Star break. With James McCann stepping in behind the dish, Ryan Mountcastle will get a look as the Orioles' designated hitter. The day off comes while Rutschman has been running hot at the plate, as he's recorded at least one hit in eight of his last nine starts while slashing .333/.366/.359.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Stays warm Thursday
Rutschman went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. Rutschman logged his fifth multi-hit effort in his last seven games. Over that span, he's gone 13-for-29 (.448) with three doubles and three RBI. The catcher was batting .265 on Aug. 15, but he's up to .277 with an .800 OPS, 16 home runs, 61 RBI, 67 runs scored, a stolen base and 22 doubles through 122 games this season. Since the Orioles are finding success with Rutschman batting leadoff, he should continue in that spot as long as his bat remains hot.... See More ... See Less -

The catcher is at a .273/.369/.430 slash line with 16 home runs, 59 RBI, 66 runs scored, 22 doubles and a triple through 120 contests overall, maintaining his place as one of the best backstops in baseball.... Over that stretch, he's hitting 9-for-27 (.333) with five runs scored and has struck out just once in 32 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Gets aboard four times
Rutschman went 3-for-4 with a walk, one RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Yankees. Rutschman was at leadoff for the second game in a row, and he set the tone well by logging two of his hits in the first inning. He's gotten on base in six of his eight plate appearances atop the order over the last two contests. The catcher is slashing .272/.374/.427 with 14 home runs, 47 RBI, 52 runs scored and 17 doubles through 100 games this season. Aside from a lack of speed, Rutschman's strong plate discipline makes him a solid option to stay at leadoff for as long as manager Brandon Hyde is interested in him being there.... See More ... Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Launches 14th homer
Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Phillies. He opened the scoring in the top of the third inning by taking Ranger Suarez deep, but the game was just about all Philly after that. Rutschman set a new career high in homers in the process with 14, topping the 13 he hit as a rookie in 2022, and his heavy workload this season doesn't seem to be wearing down the 25-year-old -- through 20 games in July, he's slashing a solid .269/.337/.462 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 12 runs.... Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Resting Monday
