The Reds reassigned Lopez to minor-league camp Monday. Lopez was removed from the 40-man roster prior to camp and failed to make the team as a non-roster invitee. He'll represent utility depth at Triple-A Louisville.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Alejo Lopez: Outrighted to Triple-A
Lopez cleared waivers and was outrighted Tuesday to Triple-A Louisville, reports Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Lopez was designated for assignment last week to clear out a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Will Benson, who was acquired via trade from the Guardians. Lopez will be on the MLB side of Reds camp this spring as a non-roster invitee.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Pushed off 40-man roster
Lopez was designated for assignment by the Reds on Wednesday. This move opens up a 40-man roster spot for Will Benson, who was just acquired via trade from the Guardians. Lopez has shown a good amount of defensive versatility, but the 26-year-old owns a career .262/.307/.321 batting line with only one home run in 179 total major-league plate appearances.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Back in bench role
Lopez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates. Lopez went 4-for-19 with an RBI and a run while starting in each of the past five games at either designated hitter, left field, second base or third base. He likely won't have a direct path to any one spot in the lineup over the final week and a half over the season, but he could continue to see steady at-bats nonetheless in his super-utility role.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Career day at dish
Lopez went 3-for-3 with a home run, one double, three RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Brewers. Lopez reached base in all four at-bats, including his first career home run, a 400-foot shot to right field in the seventh inning. Additionally, his three runs and three RBI on the day were both career highs. Despite the strong showing, the 26-year-old is unlikely to earn regular at-bats as Cincinnati has a crowded infield.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Swipes bag in win
Lopez went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in a 10-0 win over the Rockies in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader. Lopez had sat out three straight games entering this contest, where he got the start at second base. The 26-year-old was able to supply an RBI on a fielder's choice and score in the sixth inning after singling, stealing third and scoring in the Reds' five-run fourth. His playing time is likely to remain limited when Jonathan India (knee) is available. Lopez is nonetheless slashing .301/.363/.344 with no home runs, three steals, four RBI and 10 runs scored through 102 plate appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Awarded second straight start
Lopez will start at second base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. After going 3-for-3 with a run scored while filling in on the left side of the infield for Jose Barrero in Tuesday's 5-1 win, Lopez will shift over to the other side of the diamond for the series finale. Lopez still looks to be stuck in a reserve role for now, but if his performance warrants more opportunities, the Reds could create room for him in the lineup by installing Donovan Solano as their full-time first baseman while rotating their other regulars in the infield at the designated-hitter spot.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Gets call to majors
The Reds recalled Lopez from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Though Lopez will join the big club with Mike Moustakas (calf) heading to the injured list in a corresponding move, it's Donovan Solano that should be the first in line to replace Moustakas as the Reds' everyday designated hitter. Lopez, who has seen action at three infield spots in addition to the corner-outfield spots at Triple-A this season, is expected to join Matt Reynolds as a utility option off the Cincinnati bench.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Optioned to Louisville
Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Lopez wasn't part of the Reds' Opening Day roster but has already been recalled and optioned three times apiece. His latest stint on the active roster lasted over a month and saw him hit .238/.333/.286 in 23 games.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Added to Wednesday's lineup
Lopez was added to the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The 26-year-old was initially slated to be out of the lineup for the fourth time in the last five games, but he'll join the starting nine after Brandon Drury (Achilles) was scratched just under an hour before the scheduled first pitch. Lopez will start at the keystone and bat second Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Rejoins big club
The Reds recalled Lopez from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Lopez is eligible to rejoin the Reds just two days after being optioned since Cincinnati placed Joey Votto (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old is expected to be ticketed for a depth role, though it's possible the Reds give him another look as the everyday second baseman after Jonathan India (hamstring) was moved back to the injured list Sunday.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Optioned to Louisville
Lopez was optioned back down to Triple-A Louisville following Sunday's loss to the Rockies. That it was Lopez and not someone else sent back down was a little surprising, given that Jonathan India (hamstring) just went back on the IL on Sunday. But the Reds needed to demote two players because they are required to get down to 26 by Monday, and Lopez drew the short straw.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Back in majors
Lopez was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. The 25-year-old was demoted to Louisville on Tuesday but will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Jonathan India (hamstring) headed back to the injured list. Lopez is 5-for-19 with a walk and two runs in seven major-league appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Returns to minors
The Reds optioned Lopez to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Cincinnati brought back Jonathan India (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move, with his return ending Lopez's run as the Reds' everyday second baseman. The 25-year-old started at the keystone in each of the team's last six games, going 5-for-19 with a walk and two runs.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Filling in for Jonathan India
Lopez will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Padres. Lopez was expected to serve as infield depth when he was called up from Triple-A Louisville over the weekend, but he now looks primed to handle a near-everyday role in the infield after both Jonathan India (hamstring) and Mike Moustakas (biceps) were placed on the injured list Tuesday. Brandon Drury could also push for time in the infield, though Tyler Stephenson's (concussion) placement on the IL on Wednesday could result in Drury seeing most of his starts as the Reds' designated hitter.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Called up from Triple-A
The Reds recalled Lopez from Triple-A Louisville ahead of Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Though reliever Daniel Duarte (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday to open up a spot on the 28-man roster for Lopez, the 25-year-old infielder's promotion to the big club could be a precursor to Jonathan India (hamstring) landing on the IL. Even if India is deactivated, Lopez likely wouldn't serve as his replacement in the lineup, as Brandon Drury is picking up a third straight start at the keystone Sunday in place of India.... Reds' Alejo Lopez: Assigned to taxi squad
Lopez was assigned to the Reds' taxi squad Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Lopez began the season at Triple-A Louisville and hit just .161 with a double, three RBI, two runs and a steal in nine games. However, he'll travel with the Reds during their current road trip since the team is dealing with several injuries.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Sent to Louisville
Lopez was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Lopez went 1-for-10 with a run and three strikeouts across six spring games this year, but he'll begin the 2022 campaign in the minors. Across 67 appearances in Louisville last year, he slashed .303/.386/.446 with six homers, 54 runs, 31 RBI and six stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Called up by Reds
Lopez was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. Lopez spent some time with the major-league club in June and July, and he'll now rejoin the Reds as part of Wednesday's roster expansion. The 25-year-old went 6-for-19 with three runs and three strikeouts across 11 games in his first big-league action this year and will serve as infield depth for Cincinnati.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Alejo Lopez: Joins taxi squad
The Reds added Lopez to their taxi squad Saturday. It's unclear whether the team plans on recalling Lopez in the near future, or if it just wants him available in case another player, perhaps Jesse Winker (back), goes on the injured list.... See More ... See Less
