Collins signed a minor-league contract with the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Collins was once a prospect of some note years ago in the Guardians organization, but he's now 28 and spent 2023 in independent ball with the Kansas City Monarchs, posting an .897 OPS with 10 homers in 62 games. He can catch in addition to playing both corner infield spots. Collins has never appeared in the majors.

The Rays released Collins on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins asked to be cut loose, and that request was granted. The 27-year-old catcher and corner infielder had signed a minor-league contract with Tampa Bay back in January and spent most of the spring on the major-league side of camp. He's yet to appear in an actual game at the MLB level.

Collins agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins spent the 2022 campaign in the Guardians organization, and he posted a slash line of .235/.326/.370 with four homers over 139 plate appearances with Triple-A Columbus. He'll battle for a backup role with Tampa Bay, but he's likely ticketed for the minors to begin the 2023 season.
