Collins will be heading into his second season in the Cardinals organization after producing a .796 OPS over 216 plate appearances at Triple-A Memphis in 2024. The 29-year-old is primarily a catcher, but he's also capable of playing first base in a pinch.

The Rays released Collins on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins asked to be cut loose, and that request was granted. The 27-year-old catcher and corner infielder had signed a minor-league contract with Tampa Bay back in January and spent most of the spring on the major-league side of camp. He's yet to appear in an actual game at the MLB level.

Collins agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Collins spent the 2022 campaign in the Guardians organization, and he posted a slash line of .235/.326/.370 with four homers over 139 plate appearances with Triple-A Columbus. He'll battle for a backup role with Tampa Bay, but he's likely ticketed for the minors to begin the 2023 season.

Collins is slashing .288/.356/.442 through 15 games at High-A Lynchburg. The 23-year-old will be eligible to return May 3, though the severity of his injury remains unclear.
