  • Tigers' Brenan Hanifee: Reassigned to minors

The Tigers reassigned Hanifee to minor-league camp Thursday.

Hanifee made three relief appearances for the Tigers during the 2023 campaign and rejoined Detroit on a minor-league deal in the offseason after being non-tendered in November, but he never looked to be a realistic candidate to win a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. The 25-year-old right-hander is expected to report to Triple-A Toledo to begin the 2024 season.

  • Tigers' Brenan Hanifee: Back with Tigers on MiLB deal

Hanifee signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Friday and received an invitation to major-league spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The Tigers non-tendered Hanifee earlier in the offseason, but the team will keep him around on a minor-league pact. Hanifee gave up three runs across five innings in three appearances with the Tigers last season, and he logged a 4.38 ERA through 90.1 frames at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tigers' Brenan Hanifee: Set for big-league debut

Hanifee's contract will be selected from Triple-A Toledo prior to Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Cody Elliot of the Daily News Record reports.

A 25-year-old righty who has spent the bulk of his pro career in the Orioles' system, Hanifee joined the Tigers on a minor-league deal this year. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2021 and logged a 4.38 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 90.1 innings this year for the Mud Hens. Look for Hanifee to work in low-leverage, multi-inning relief situations.

  • Orioles' Brenan Hanifee: Back in action at Double-A

Hanifee (elbow) has posted a 6.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB in 15 innings over five appearances for Double-A Bowie since returning from the 7-day injured list July 15.

Hanifee was sidelined for approximately 13 months while recovering from May 2021 Tommy John surgery before he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League in late June. He made three appearances in the lower levels of the minors before debuting for Bowie in mid-July.

  • Orioles' Brenan Hanifee: Starts throwing again

Hanifee (elbow) resumed throwing off flat ground in January during the Orioles' minor-league minicamp, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Hanifee is rehabbing from the Tommy John surgery he underwent May 26, 2021, so even though he's throwing again, he's still unlikely to make his 2022 debut until around mid-season at the earliest. The 23-year-old right-hander posted a 4.60 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 78:57 K:BB in 129 innings in his last professional season in 2019 at the High-A level.

Hanifee underwent successful Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Hanifee had been on the 7-day minor-league injured list since mid-May, and he'll miss the remainder of the season following his surgery. The right-hander didn't make any appearances to begin the year, and he could miss the start of the 2022 campaign while he recovers.
