  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Shifts to 60-day IL

Gonsolin (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday. Gonsolin was placed on the injured list June 7 due to right elbow soreness. Imaging showed that his UCL was intact, but he'll nevertheless now be sidelined until at least early August. The move made room for Jack Little on the 40-man roster.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: UCL intact

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Sunday that scans of Gonsolin's injured right elbow showed that his UCL is intact, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Gonsolin underwent Tommy John surgery late in 2023, and there was concern about the health of his UCL when he experienced right elbow discomfort following his most recent start June 5. Despite the good news, Gonsolin will stop throwing for an undetermined period. He was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday, but it's not clear how long he will be out of action.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Lands on IL with elbow injury

The Dodgers placed Gonsolin on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right elbow discomfort, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Gonsolin last started Wednesday when he allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings in a loss to the Mets. The right-hander began the campaign on the IL due to a back injury, but this is the first word of Gonsolin dealing with an elbow issue. It's unclear how Los Angeles will immediately replace Gonsolin in the rotation, as the team activated a pair of relievers -- Michael Kopech (shoulder) and Kirby Yates (hamstring) -- from the IL on Saturday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Gets little run support in loss

Gonsolin (3-2) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six batters over five innings. In Gonsolin's previous start, he served up four home runs but was still able to earn a victory behind a potent Dodgers offense. The right-hander had a better stat line Wednesday with only one long ball and two earned runs allowed, but Los Angeles didn't score until the ninth frame, saddling Gonsolin with his second loss of the campaign. There were some positive takeaways despite the defeat, as he racked up an impressive 17 whiffs and tied a season-low mark with three hits allowed. He's still struggling with his control, though, as Gonsolin has walked multiple batters in six straight starts and has a poor 5.4 K/9 over 30 innings during that span.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Yields four homers in win

Gonsolin (3-1) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings to earn the win Friday over the Yankees. Gonsolin served up four home runs in this outing, but he was fortunate that three of them were solo shots. After a positive start to the season, Gonsolin has allowed at least four runs while walking at least three batters in each of his last three outings. He's now at a 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 31 innings through six starts. The right-hander's next outing is projected to be at home versus the Mets.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Tagged with first loss

Gonsolin (2-1) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings. Gonsolin allowed a constant stream of baserunners in the outing and didn't retire the side in order until his fifth and final frame. The right-hander wasn't hit all that hard, however -- only one of the knocks (a Juan Soto two-run double) against him went for extra bases. Gonsolin looked very good in beginning the campaign by allowing just five runs with a 21:4 K:BB over 16 innings across his first three starts, but he's scuffled since, yielding eight runs with a 7:8 K:BB across nine frames in his past two appearances. He'll look to get back on track in what's projected to be a tough home matchup against the Yankees next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Struggles with bloody finger

Gonsolin didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Angels, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts over four innings. Per Sonja Chen of MLB.com, Gonsolin picked some dead skin off the thumb on his throwing hand following his pregame bullpen, which led to frequent bleeding while he was on the mound. As a result, he walked five batters, matching his previous career high that was set in 2021. Gonsolin missed the first month of the season due to a back injury, but the veteran right-hander has made four straight starts since being activated. Sunday's outing ballooned his ERA from 2.81 to 4.05. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Mets in New York next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Start bumped up

Gonsolin will start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Gonsolin was slated to start Tuesday against the Athletics, but the Dodgers will bypass a bullpen game Sunday and instead start him on regular rest. Gonsolin has been sharp in two starts this season, maintaining a 17:2 K:BB across 11 frames of work.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Fans eight in no-decision

Gonsolin didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Marlins, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight. The right-hander blanked Miami for four innings before Liam Hicks touched him up for a two-run homer in the fifth. Gonsolin generated a whopping 18 swinging strikes among his 82 pitches (49 total strikes), and he's produced an eye-popping 17:2 K:BB through 11 innings in his first two starts of 2025 -- although both starts did come against the Marlins. Gonsolin will face a somewhat tougher test in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the A's.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Earns win, quality start in return

Gonsolin (1-0) earned the win in Wednesday's 12-7 victory over the Marlins, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out nine. It was an impressive return to the mound for Gonsolin, who missed the first month of the season with a back injury after missing all of the 2024 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. With Blake Snell (shoulder) and Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) both sidelined, Gonsolin provides much-needed reinforcement to the Dodgers' rotation. The right-hander currently lines up for a rematch with the Marlins on the road in his next outing.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Activated ahead of season debut

The Dodgers activated Gonsolin (back) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Gonsolin will start Wednesday against the Marlins in his season debut with the Dodgers. The right-hander began the season on the IL with a back injury but is ready to roll after collecting a 3.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB over 14 innings covering four rehab outings. Gonsolin went five frames and threw 79 pitches in his last start, so he should be capable of throwing around 90 pitches Wednesday.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Slated for season debut Wednesday

Gonsolin (back) is expected to be the Dodgers' starting pitcher against the Marlins on Wednesday, independent journalist Mike DiGiovanna reports. Gonsolin began the season on the injured list due to a back injury, but he's been prepping for a return in the minor leagues since early April. In four appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, he's posted a 3.21 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB over 14 innings, with the veteran righty's longest outing being a five-inning, 79-pitch start last Wednesday. Per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register, Los Angeles will likely go with a bullpen game Tuesday, giving Gonsolin a full week between his last minor-league outing and his 2025 MLB debut, which will be his first big-league appearance since 2023. If all goes well for Gonsolin, he should be able to keep a spot in the Dodgers' rotation given that Blake Snell is on the injured list with a shoulder issue, Tyler Glasnow could land on the IL due to a shoulder injury of his own and Shohei Ohtani's target date for a return to the mound remains uncertain.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Should make season debut next week

Gonsolin (back) is likely to return from the 15-day injured list next week to make his 2025 debut with the Dodgers, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Dodgers went with a bullpen game Wednesday the last time the team required a fifth starter, so Gonsolin should be in line to fill that spot in the rotation the next time it comes up Tuesday against the Marlins. Gonsolin didn't pitch for the Dodgers and was limited to just three minor-league rehab starts in 2024 while he completed his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and he opened this season on the IL after tweaking his back in spring training while lifting weights. The right-hander was cleared to begin pitching in minor-league games April 3 and made the fourth start of his rehab assignment Wednesday, covering five innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City and allowing two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. He built up to 79 pitches (49 strikes) in that outing, so Gonsolin should be ready to handle a traditional starter's workload if the Dodgers activate him during the upcoming week.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Set for rehab start Wednesday

Gonsolin (back) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Gonsolin tossed four innings in his last rehab outing with Oklahoma City last Tuesday, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters he wants the 30-year-old right-hander to pitch into the fifth inning Wednesday, per Moreno. Gonsolin has made three appearances during his rehab assignment, logging a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across nine innings. He's in the final stages of his recovery from a back injury that he suffered in early March.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Tosses four innings in rehab outing

Gonsolin (back) hurled four innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City in a rehab start Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters. Gonsolin retired the first six batters he faced but then struggled in the third inning, giving up three runs. While his final line wasn't great, it's worth noting that all six hits the right-hander allowed were singles, including one bunt single. Gonsolin tossed 43 of 66 pitches for strikes in the outing, and the four frames represented his longest appearance in his rehab stint, which has consisted of three starts so far. Gonsolin will likely need at least one more rehab start before he's activated off the IL, and when he returns he could have at least a temporary spot in the Dodgers' rotation, especially if Blake Snell (shoulder) has not returned to action by then.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Needs more rehab starts

Gonsolin (back) will need at least two more rehab outings to ramp up to five or six innings, MLB.com reports. He threw 3.1 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in his second rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday. The Dodgers have openings in the starting rotation with Blake Snell (shoulder) on the injured list and Justin Wrobleski sent to the minors after his last poor outing. However, it doesn't look like Gonsolin is an option in the next week. Gonsolin began the season on the injured list due to a back injury he suffered in mid-March.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Throws 30 pitches in rehab start

Gonsolin (back) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, allowing one hit and issuing two walks while striking out one batter. Gonsolin's control wasn't great in the outing -- he threw only 15 of his 30 pitches for strikes -- but otherwise the right-hander had a smooth return to game action. Gonsolin had his spring cut short due to a back injury he suffered while lifting weights, and he's currently on the major-league 15-day IL. He could be ready to return to the big club in mid-to-late April, though it's not clear what his role will be given that the Dodgers currently have five healthy starters while in the midst of an 8-0 beginning to the campaign.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Starting rehab assignment Thursday

Gonsolin (back) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Comets broadcaster Alex Freedman reports. Gonsolin began the season on the injured list due to a back injury he suffered in mid-March, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A and is expected to pitch two innings Thursday. Gonsolin went 8-5 across 20 regular-season starts for the Dodgers in 2024 and posted a 4.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 82:40 K:BB across 103 innings.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Making progress in recovery

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Gonsolin (back) is "progressing nicely" in this throwing program, per MLB.com. Gonsolin was competing for a rotation spot for much of spring training, but he injured his back while lifting weights in early March and will open the season on the injured list. Meanwhile, Dustin May will begin the campaign as the Dodgers' fifth starter. Gonsolin doesn't seem to be dealing with a long-term issue, but it's unclear what his role will be upon his return. The right-hander didn't pitch in the majors at all last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Lands on 15-day IL

Gonsolin (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. It was previously reported that Gonsolin was expected to begin the season on the injured list due to a back issue, and the team made the move official Monday. Dustin May will hold on to the fifth starter spot until Gonsolin is back at 100 percent, at which point the club will need to make a decision on whether to deploy Gonsolin in long relief or bump May from the rotation.
