Schanuel is not in Sunday's lineup against the Athletics. Brandon Drury will move to first base while Eduardo Escobar starts at designated hitter. Schanuel hit .250 with one home run in 19 September games.... See More ... See Less

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Returns to lineup Friday
Schanuel (knee) is back in the lineup Friday against the Athletics. Schanuel will start at first base and bat leadoff versus left-hander Ken Waldichuk after missing two straight games because of knee tightness. The 21-year-old has slashed .284/.407/.343 since being promoted to the majors in mid-August, reaching base in all 27 games that he's appeared in so far.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Held out Tuesday
Schanuel (knee) isn't in the Angels' lineup Tuesday against Texas, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Knee tightness caused Schanuel to be removed from Monday's game during the seventh inning, and the Angels will give him an extra day to heal Tuesday. Brandon Drury will shift to first base in Schanuel's absence, allowing Eduardo Escobar to serve as the Halos' designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Exits with knee issue
Schanuel was pulled in the seventh inning of Monday's game against the Rangers due to tightness in his knee, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. Schanuel fouled a ball off his knee earlier in the contest and was initially able to remain in the game, but manager Phil Nevin noted Schanuel's knee began to tighten up later on, resulting in his removal. Schanuel will be considered day-to-day going forward, and the team plans to evaluate him further Tuesday, per Valenzuela.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Takes seat Sunday
Schanuel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Schanuel has reached base at least once in each of his first 26 big-league games but will take a seat Sunday versus Minnesota righty Joe Ryan. Brandon Drury will shift to first base while David Fletcher starts at the keystone.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Extends on-base streak
Schanuel reached on an infield single in the eighth inning of Saturday's 1-0 win over the Twins to extend his career-opening on-base streak to 26 games. Schanuel barely beat out the throw to first base on his lone hit of the contest, but it was good enough to extend his franchise record of reaching base in 26 straight contests to begin a career. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, only three players in MLB history have exceeded that mark -- Alvin Davis (47) in 1984, Truck Hannah (38) in 1918 and Enos Slaughter (29) in 1938. Schanuel's impressive run has been fueled by an excellent 18:16 BB:K, and he's added a strong .283 batting average, though only three of his 28 hits so far have gone for extra bases.... See More ... Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Hits first homer
Schanuel went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Tigers. Schanuel got the Angels on the board with a third-inning solo shot, his first career big-league homer. It took him 21 games to check off that milestone, and he had just one extra-base hit, a double, prior to his long ball Saturday. Considering the 21-year-old was fast-tracked to the majors after just 22 minor-league games, in which he hit .370 with a 1.004 OPS, it's a little surprising he hasn't added much power yet, though it's not his best tool. In the majors, he has a .296/.418/.346 slash line with four RBI, 14 runs scored and a 15:12 BB:K over 98 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Resting Friday
Schanuel is not in Friday's lineup against the Tigers, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Schanuel will hit the bench after starting three consecutive games. He recently recovered from a shoulder injury, so the team may take a cautious approach and give him extra time off across the final few weeks of the regular season. The Angels shuffled the lineup in Schanuel's absence, with the end result being Kyren Paris hitting leadoff and playing center field.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Will lead off Monday
Schanuel (shoulder) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. A sore shoulder prevented Schanuel from seeing any action Saturday or Sunday, but he has put that behind him and will lead off like he usually does Monday night.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Held out Saturday
Schanuel (shoulder) isn't in the Angels' lineup Saturday against the Guardians. After exiting Friday's game with tightness in his shoulder, Schanuel will remain on the bench for Saturday's contest. He's still considered day-to-day, so there's a chance he'll be able to return to the lineup within a day or two. In the meantime, Mike Moustakas will start at first base while Eduardo Escobar covers third.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Exits with tight shoulder blade
Schanuel was pulled from Friday's loss to the Guardians with minor tightness in his shoulder blade, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Schanuel landed hard on his shoulder as he tried to make a play at first base in the top of the eighth inning and was replaced defensively by Trey Cabbage before the top of the ninth. Schanuel finished the night 0-for-3 with a walk while extending his on-base streak to 17 games to begin his career, a franchise record. Consider him day-to-day for the rest of the weekend series versus Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Enters franchise history book
Schanuel went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to Baltimore, tying a franchise record by reaching base in his 15th straight game to begin his career, per the Associated Press. Schanuel's third-inning single marked the 15th straight contest in which he's gotten on base since being called up to the majors Aug. 18. That ties a franchise record that Darin Erstad established in 1996. Schanuel is slashing a solid .286/.429/.304 with a 17.6 percent walk rate through 70 plate appearances, though he's yet to go deep or steal a base. Of his 16 hits thus far, 15 have been singles.... Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Hitting leadoff Monday
Schanuel (illness) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. An illness prevented Schanuel from playing the past two days, but he is ready to get back on the field. As he has done regularly against right-handers since being called up Aug. 18, Schanuel will man first base and hit leadoff for the Angels on Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Remains out Sunday
Schanuel (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Schanuel missed Saturday's 5-3 win while recovering from an apparent case of food poisoning, but it's unclear if the rookie's absence Sunday is due to the illness or because the Mets are bringing a southpaw (David Peterson) to the hill. Regardless, Brandon Drury will shift over from the keystone and pick up a start at first base while Schanuel sits.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Scratched but not injured
Schanuel was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Mets but is not dealing with an injury, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. The Angels have yet to announce a reason for Schanuel's absence, but Fletcher reports that the issue isn't a serious one. Trey Cabbage will get the start at first base in Schanuel's absence.... Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Possible waiver wire pickups
The Angels continue to push the envelope when it comes to call-ups, promoting their top pick from last month's draft (11th overall) Friday and immediately installing him as their first baseman and leadoff hitter. Schanuel has the skill set for it, having reached base at a .510 clip during his brief time in the minors, with more than twice as many walks (21) as strikeouts (10). He had 71 walks to just 14 strikeouts for Florida Atlantic University earlier this year. The big question is whether he has enough thump for Fantasy. Though he's built for power at 6-feet-4, he makes weak contact, rarely lifts the ball, and had only one home run in 96 minor-league plate appearances. There's also no telling if he'll play against lefties. Schanuel is interesting, particularly in points leagues, but the Yandy Diaz profile is a difficult needle to thread.... See More ... See Less
