Dominic Keegan was a 1B/C type at Vanderbilt and the Rays took him as a catcher in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. He primarily served as a catcher in 2023 with 80 of his 106 games played coming at the catching position while he hit .287/.386/.467 between two levels of A ball. The Rotowire staff who attended the Arizona Fall League saw Keegan play in the AFL where he hit well while catching everyday, but it was obvious to all of us that his development as an overall catcher is a work in progress. The biggest fault with Keegan behind the plate is his throwing arm simply is not up to snuff, which is a detriment in today's modern running game where many baserunners are looking to take advantage of the new rules and conditions. While Keegan did catch 30 of 100 attempted basestealers in A ball, he was just 5 of 40 in the AFL. Simply put, the bat is what will have to carry Keegan's fantasy future because his catching future at the upper levels is rather clouded.
