Neto isn't in the Angels' lineup Saturday against Minnesota, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto is slashing just .122/.217/.220 across his last 10 games, so he'll get a day off to regroup after striking out three times Friday. David Fletcher will take over at shortstop and bat ninth.... Angels' Zach Neto: Homers in homecoming
Neto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 loss against the Rays. Neto, a Miami native, launched a game-tying solo shot in the eighth inning of his return to the Sunshine State. However, the excitement was short-lived, as Tampa Bay answered with a four-run eighth inning to put the game out of reach. After missing more than five weeks with a back injury, the 22-year-old shortstop has gone just 2-for-27 (.074) with eight strikeouts and four walks in seven contests. Neto owns a season-long slash line of .223/.301/.386 with nine home runs, 31 RBI, 33 runs and five steals across 74 games in his rookie campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Not starting Sunday
Neto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Neto is 1-for-20 with three walks, a run and eight strikeouts since being activated from the injured list last weekend, so he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale. David Fletcher will work at shortstop and bat second.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Eyeing return next week
Angels manager Phil Nevin said Wednesday that Neto (back) will remain on his rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake through Saturday before being re-evaluated, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto could be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Sunday's series finale versus the Guardians if the Angels' training staff is satisfied with his health upon re-evaluating him, but it's more likely that the shortstop returns to the Anaheim lineup early next week. The 22-year-old has gone 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk through the first two games of his rehab assignment and will have off Thursday before returning to the Salt Lake lineup Friday and Saturday. Once activated, Neto should take back the reins as the Halos' everyday shortstop while rookie Kyren Paris fades into more a utility role or gets optioned back to Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Rehab assignment Tuesday
Neto (back) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Salt Lake, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto will need a brief rehab assignment, as he has been out since Aug. 3 with the back injury, but it's possible he will be back later this week. Once activated, he should assume the everyday shortstop duties, at which point Kyren Paris may head back to the minor leagues.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Approaching rehab assignment
Angels manager Phil Nevin said Friday that Neto (back) hasn't experienced any setbacks since going on the injured list and is expected to begin a rehab stint during the week of Sept. 5, MLB.com reports. Neto has been on the shelf since Aug. 4 after dealing with back trouble for several weeks. He's progressed to participating in all on-field activities except hitting during warmups, though he's been taking swings in an indoor batting cage. Nevin indicated that Neto is pain-free, and as long as his upcoming rehab assignment goes off without a hitch, the rookie shortstop should be able to return to the major-league club in time to log several more weeks of action before the end of the regular season.... Angels' Zach Neto: Likely out several weeks
Angels manager Phil Nevin said Tuesday that Neto (back) will be out for several weeks, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto was placed on the 10-day injured list last Friday due to lower-back discomfort and further testing has revealed a bad case of inflammation. Luis Rengifo will continue to serve as the Angels' primary shortstop in his absence, which is now expected to extend through at least mid-September.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Remains out Saturday
Neto (back) isn't in the Angels' lineup Saturday against Toronto, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Neto was scratched from Friday's lineup due to his nagging back stiffness issue, and it will keep him out for at least one more game Saturday. Luis Rengifo will fill in at shortstop, allowing Michael Stefanic to start at second base and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Scratched with stiff back
Neto was scratched from the lineup Friday versus the Blue Jays due to renewed back stiffness, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Andrew Velazquez will play shortstop and bat ninth for the Angels as Neto continues to struggle through a back issue that first popped up last weekend. He is considered day-to-day.... See More ... Angels' Zach Neto: Scratched from lineup
Neto (back) was scratched from the Angels' lineup Tuesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. He had been slated to return to action following a two-game absence with a back issue, but manager Phil Nevin decided to give the rookie one more day. Neto is expected back Wednesday, but Andrew Velazquez will enter the lineup at shortstop Tuesday and Luis Rengifo will move up to the leadoff spot.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Back in action Tuesday
Neto (back) is playing shortstop and batting leadoff in his return to the lineup Tuesday in Detroit, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Neto missed Saturday's and Sunday's games versus the Pirates due to lower-back tightness but is ready to go following Monday's off day. The rookie shortstop has slugged two home runs in seven games since the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Likely out until Tuesday
Neto (back) isn't expected to return to the Angels lineup until Tuesday in Detroit, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Neto was scratched from Saturday's game against the Pirates due to lower-back tightness and will also be held out of Sunday's series finale, but the young shortstop should be ready to rock following Monday's scheduled team off day. Andrew Velazquez got the start at short in Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Hits eighth homer
Neto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-5 win over the Pirates. Neto extended his hitting streak to six games with his fifth-inning blast. In that span, he's gone 7-for-27 (.259) with two homers and four RBI. The shortstop has hit leadoff in every game since the All-Star break, and the results are solid so far. He's at a .252/.328/.432 slash line with eight long balls, 27 RBI, 30 runs scored and five stolen bases through 62 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Hitless in return
Neto went 0-for-5 with an RBI in a loss to the Astros on Friday. Neto returned from a one-month stay on the injured list and batted leadoff for Los Angeles. He wasn't able to reach base but did drive in a run on a second-inning groundout. Neto had been hitting at the bottom of the order prior to getting hurt, so it remains to be seen if he'll stick in the leadoff spot moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Activated, leading off Friday
Neto (oblique) is starting at shortstop and leading off Friday against the Astros, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Neto ends up missing exactly a month with an oblique strain. He hit .355 with three home runs and two steals in 12 June games, and the fact he is back atop the lineup is a good sign for his fantasy value.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Set for live batting practice
Neto (oblique) is scheduled to take live batting practice Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto was shut down for a couple of weeks after he landed on the inured list June 15 due to a left oblique strain, but he has responded well to a recent uptick in baseball activities and could return to the Angels' active roster immediately after the All-Star break.... Angels' Zach Neto: Continuing to ramp up activities
Neto (oblique) played catch and is expected to hit off a tee Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto is continuing to ramp up his baseball activities, and Bollinger adds that the shortstop could be activated soon after the break if all goes according to plan. He's been on the 10-day injured list since June 15 due to a left oblique strain and will likely head out on a rehab assignment shortly.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Removed early Wednesday
Neto was removed from Wednesday's game against Texas for undisclosed reasons, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Jared Walsh entered the game to pinch hit for Neto in the second inning, and the Angels have yet to announce a reason for Neto's removal. The team should provide an update relatively soon, and Neto should be considered day-to-day until more is known.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Zach Neto: Homers again Tuesday
Neto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Rangers. Neto's 396-foot blast came in the ninth inning, giving him his second home run in three days and sixth on the season. The rookie has held his own so far, striking out at just a 21 percent clip while posting a respectable .259 average working as the near everyday shortstop for the Angels.... See More ... See Less -
