Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Will continue season in AFL
Tiedemann will pitch in the Arizona Fall League this October, Jonathan Mayo and Sam Dykstra of MLB.com report.
Top pitching prospects don't often see action in the AFL -- the Tigers' Jackson Jobe is the only other young arm of note getting sent to the desert this year -- and in both cases, the hurler missed significant time this season due to injury and could use additional reps. Tiedemann has thrown just 40 innings across all levels in 2023 due to biceps inflammation, although the 21-year-old southpaw is set to make his first Triple-A start Friday night. In those 40 frames, he's posted a remarkable 76:21 K:BB, and if he can stay healthy into next season Tiedemann remains on track for a potential 2024 big-league debut.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Moving up to Triple-A
The Blue Jays promoted Tiedemann from Double-A New Hampshire to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
Tiedemann has dealt with shoulder issues this season and has been a bit of a mixed bag during his time at New Hampshire, posting a 5.06 ERA with 20 walks in 32 innings but also notching a whopping 58 strikeouts. The lefty's ability to make bats miss at a prolific clip has elevated him to becoming one of the top pitching prospects in the game, and he'll get his first taste of the International League this week.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Fans 11 at Double-A
Tiedemann gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over 3.2 innings for Double-A New Hampshire on Tuesday, with all 11 outs coming via strikeout.
The 21-year-old southpaw has struggled since coming off the minor-league IL in mid-August, getting tagged for eight earned runs in 9.2 innings over four appearances, but his 20 strikeouts during that stretch is a reminder of his elite upside. A biceps strain that cost him two and a half months of the season ended any chance Tiedemann might have had of making his big-league debut in 2023, but he'll head into next year a strong candidate to get the call at some point. Expect the Blue Jays to keep a very close eye on his health and workload however -- the 2021 third-round pick has pitched only 30.1 innings so far across all levels this season.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Activated off minor-league IL
Tiedemann (biceps) was activated from the minor-league injured list Friday at Double-A New Hampshire, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Tiedemann made three terrific rehab starts between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Single-A Dunedin, tallying 18 strikeouts while yielding just one hit across eight scoreless innings. The talented 20-year-old left-hander is back in the New Hampshire rotation following a three-month absence due to biceps inflammation.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Moves rehab to Single-A
Tiedemann (biceps) shifted his rehab assignment to Single-A Dunedin on Saturday, walking one and striking out six over three no-hit innings.
Tiedemann remains on Double-A New Hampshire's 7-day injured list, but based on how he looked Saturday, he could be cleared to make his next start in the Eastern League following a nearly three-month absence due to biceps inflammation. Per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Tiedemann's fastball topped out at 97.6 miles per hour and averaged 95.7 mph, and he induced six whiffs on nine swings when he threw his sweeper. Tiedemann remains the Blue Jays' top pitching prospect, but because of the extensive time he missed this season, a 2023 big-league debut may not be in the cards for the 20-year-old southpaw.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Returns to mound
Tiedemann (biceps) struck out three over two perfect innings in his return to action Friday with the Blue Jays' Florida Complex League affiliate.
Tiedemann made just four starts this season with Double-A New Hampshire due to shoulder and biceps issues, but he's on the comeback trail and should be back in New Hampshire's rotation soon. The top prospect seems unlikely to make his big-league debut in 2023 given his injury setbacks, but his future remains very bright.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Could return in three weeks
Tiedemann (biceps) could return for Double-A New Hampshire in three weeks, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.
The prized southpaw has been sitting 96-97 mph with his fastball during live batting practice sessions as he builds up after getting shut down with biceps inflammation in early May. As Davidi notes, the Blue Jays have been abundantly cautious this season with Tiedemann, not wanting to rush him back from a spring shoulder injury and this most recent biceps injury. Given the multiple recent arm injuries and high-end velocity, Tiedemann is as risky as they come from a short-term health standpoint.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Set for mound work
Tiedemann (biceps) is expected to throw a bullpen session in the coming days, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
It will be his first mound workout since he exited a start at Double-A New Hampshire back on May 4 due to left biceps inflammation. The talented young southpaw also battled shoulder trouble in the spring, but he seems to be headed in a positive direction now and could perhaps return to minor-league action sometime in late July.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Considered week-to-week
Tiedemann (biceps) has not started a rehab assignment yet and is considered week-to-week, Baseball America reports.
There was a report in mid-May that he was nearing a throwing program, but things don't seem to have advanced much in five weeks since then. His MRI from May 9 showed biceps inflammation after he logged 12.2 innings across four starts for Double-A New Hampshire.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Nearing throwing program
Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Monday that Tiedemann (biceps) is expected to resume a throwing program next week, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The talented young left-hander exited his May 4 start with Double-A New Hampshire due to left biceps inflammation, an injury which could be related to the left shoulder soreness he dealt with during spring training. Fortunately for Tiedemann, his setback doesn't appear to be an overly significant one, though he may be two weeks or more away from returning to game action while he works to ramp back up again.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: MRI shows biceps inflammation
An MRI on Tiedemann's left shoulder has revealed biceps inflammation, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
It would seem to be as good of a diagnosis as the Blue Jays could have hoped for. Tiedemann is considered week-to-week. The Jays' top prospect has been limited to just four starts this season because of arm issues.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Undergoing MRI on biceps
Tiedemann is undergoing an MRI on his left biceps Friday after exiting his start Thursday for Double-A New Hampshire, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
The initial diagnosis is biceps soreness, but Tiedemann will have imaging to hopefully rule out any structural issues. Injuries have been a problem for the young lefty to begin the season, as he missed the first couple weeks with a shoulder issue. The top prospect could push to make his big-league debut at some point in 2023, but he'll need to get healthy first.

Blue Jays' Ricky Tiedemann: Placed on 7-day IL
Tiedemann has been placed on the 7-day injured list by Double-A New Hampshire on Friday with left biceps discomfort.
Tiedemann felt the biceps discomfort during his start Thursday for the Fisher Cats. The left-hander will miss at least one turn in the rotation, but the results of the imaging have yet to be made public, so a long-term injury cannot be ruled out for the top pitching prospect in the Toronto system. If healthy, Tiedemann has the stuff to be a fantasy contributor in the 2023 campaign.
