Guardians' Gavin Williams: Notches second victory
Williams (2-1) earned the win over St. Louis on Monday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five-plus innings.
Williams was tagged for a run in the first inning but didn't allow another until serving up a leadoff homer to Jordan Walker in the sixth. Though he wasn't overly efficient, needing 93 pitches to complete five-plus frames, Williams pitched more than well enough to notch the win on a day when Cleveland gave him nine runs of support. The righty hurler began the campaign by giving up three runs over five innings in a loss, but since then Williams has surrendered just three earned runs across 17.2 frames spanning three starts. On the season, he has a 2.38 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29:16 K:BB over 22.2 innings.

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Walks five in no-decision
Williams did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and five walks over 5.2 innings in a 2-1 win over the Royals. He struck out eight.
The right-hander continues to showcase his strikeout stuff to open 2026 and now has at least seven strikeouts in each of his first three starts, but he's also issued at least three walks in each outing. Williams has surrendered just five total hits, and as a result, he's successfully walked the tightrope thus far with a 2.04 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Fourteen walks through 19.2 frames to begin the season is hardly sustainable, however, so Williams will likely need to button up his command a bit in order to maintain his effectiveness.

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Start moved up
Williams' scheduled start Tuesday against the Royals was moved up to 1:10 p.m. ET from its originally scheduled 6:10 pm due to a forecast of frigid conditions in the Cleveland area, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Fantasy managers will want to adjust their lineups accordingly to accommodate the new time for first pitch. Williams is coming off a dominant start against the Dodgers last Wednesday in which he picked up his first win while striking out 10 over seven shutout innings.

Williams (1-1) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Williams looks to have corrected the mechanical issue that led to him walking six batters in his season debut versus the Mariners. The right-hander was excellent in this contest, though he's unlikely to ever be an elite control pitcher. That didn't get in his way in 2025, and he's now given up a modest three runs over 12 innings while posting a 17:9 K:BB through his first two starts of 2026. Williams is projected to make his next start at home versus the Royals next week.

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Explains wild start
Williams explained the wildness he experienced in Friday's start when he walked six batters over five innings in a loss to Seattle, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Williams said he was out of sync with his front foot too quick to the ground before his upper body was ready to deliver the ball.
The mechanical issue caused him to over-rotate and pull some pitches, and his attempts to overcorrect caused more wayward offerings. The right-hander managed to control his walks over the second half of 2025 -- 5.3 BB/9 prior to All-Star break and 3.3 post-break -- and did a fine job this spring (two walks in 17.2 innings). Williams will look to correct the issue leading up to his next schedule start Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Williams (0-1) allowed three runs on two hits and six walks while striking out seven over five innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners.
Williams threw just 49 of 89 pitches for strikes in a wild performance. The Mariners didn't take full advantage of his free passes, allowing him to escape with a mediocre start instead of a bad one, and the seven strikeouts are a silver lining. Williams had a 4.58 ERA over 17.2 innings in spring training, but he also posted a 19:2 K:BB. Expecting him to rein in the walks might be asking too much -- he had a 4.5 BB/9 in the 2025 regular season, but that didn't stop him from maintaining a 3.06 ERA over 167.2 innings. Williams will look to rebound in a tough matchup on the road versus the Dodgers in his next projected start.

Williams allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Friday's spring start against the Angels.
Williams had early trouble in the first inning but settled down after that in his third Cactus League start. He increased his pitch count to 56 (41 strikes) and didn't issue a free pass for the second straight outing. Walks were an issue for the right-hander in 2025 (4.5 BB/9), but thus far, Williams has issued just one walk through eight spring innings.
