  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Tossed in eighth inning

Sheets was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the top half of the eighth inning Monday against the Twins, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Sheets was unhappy with a called strike three and let the umpire know about it before exiting for the clubhouse. The 28-year-old went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts prior to getting ejected.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Forcing outfield rotation

Sheets went 1-for-7 with a walk and a solo home run across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals.

Sheets had been serving as the White Sox's primary designated hitter in the absence of Eloy Jimenez, while also picking up some playing time at first base. With Jimenez back in the mix, Sheets started both of Wednesday's games in right field, forcing Andrew Benintendi to the bench in one contest and Robbie Grossman to the bench in the other. It will take some additional time to see how the playing time sorts out in the team's outfield, particularly if Tommy Pham also reaches the big-league roster. For now, it appears that Dominic Fletcher may be the only full-time starter in the outfield.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Option for starts in outfield

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Monday that Sheets could see some action in the outfield, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Sheets is one of the few White Sox players that's been hitting, so using him in the outfield would allow the club to keep his bat in the lineup even after the return of Eloy Jimenez from the injured list Monday. While he's a natural first baseman, most of Sheets' playing time at the major-league level has come in the outfield, so it's not foreign to him. He should receive fairly regular reps in the outfield versus righties while he's swinging a hot bat.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Has monster day in loss

Sheets went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Guardians. He also stole a base.

Sheets had himself a day at the plate Wednesday, driving home the first run of the game with a double in the top of the first before coming around to score himself, putting Chicago up 2-0. He then launched a three-run shot in the third and another RBI double in the 10th to put the White Sox up yet again, though his incredible effort would still fall short in the loss. It marked Sheets' first three-hit game of the season and his third multi-hit game in his last six contests. He's now batting .360 in April with two homers, seven RBI and four runs scored.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Smashes solo homer

Sheets went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Royals.

Sheets accounted for the lone White Sox run Friday night when he crushed a Brady Singer slider to right field. The Chicago designated hitter's first homer of the season travelled 391 feet and would have left all 30 major league ballparks. The 27-year-old has been seeing regular playing time while Eloy Jimenez (left abductor) has been sidelined, and with Luis Robert (hip) now also potentially facing an absence, Sheets might have an even clearer path to at-bats.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Third straight start

Sheets will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Wednesday's game versus Atlanta.

Eloy Jimenez (adductor) has missed three straight starts, with the White Sox turning to Sheets to fill in at DH each time. The 27-year-old reached base three times and drove in a run in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Atlanta.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Getting start at DH

Sheets will start at designated hitter and bat fifth in Monday's contest versus Atlanta.

Sheets will get his first start of the season as he fills in for Eloy Jimenez (adductor). He could see regular action against right-handers if Jimenez needs a stint on the injured list, but there's no indication yet whether that will happen.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Battling for final roster spot

Sheets is battling with Mike Moustakas for the final spot on the White Sox roster, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Sheets has served as the White Sox's primary right fielder for the last two seasons, though the acquisition of Dominic Fletcher has pushed him into a reserve role. He's responded by hitting .326 with seven extra-base hits this spring across 51 plate appearances. While he has out-played Moustakas, Sheets could find himself on the wrong side of the competition because he has one minor-league option remaining.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Entering spring on roster bubble

Sheets could have trouble making the Opening Day roster after recent additions to the White Sox's roster, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Sheets spent the last two seasons with a significant share of playing time in right field, and for much of the offseason, it appeared that would remain the case in 2024. However, the White Sox have made several additions late in the offseason, including Kevin Pillar, Mike Moustakas and Dominic Fletcher. All three of those players will be competing directly with Sheets for both plate appearances and a roster spot, so he'll likely need to have a good showing in the spring to head east with the big club.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Swats homer No. 10

Sheets went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Twins.

He took Pablo Lopez deep in the first inning, giving the White Sox an early 5-0 lead that they barely managed to avoid squandering. Sheets snapped an 18-game homer drought with the blast, a stretch dating back to Aug. 18 in which he slashed a meager .156/.191/.222. The 27-year-old has taken over as the regular right fielder for Chicago against right-handed pitching, and while hits have been hard to come by lately, Sheets does have eight RBI in his last six contests. On the season, he has a weak .627 OPS with 10 homers and 40 RBI in 299 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Snaps homer drought in loss

Sheets went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 4-3 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday.

Sheets gave the White Sox a 3-0 lead in the fifth frame with a two-run blast, but the team's bullpen couldn't seal the deal in the late innings. The long ball was Sheets' first since June 16, a span of 33 games. The veteran has seen his playing time decline as his bat has been cold. Since June 20, he's slashing a meager .178/.241/.247 with one homer, seven RBI, three runs and a 5:17 BB:K over 32 contests.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Losing playing time to Colas

Sheets is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

On the bench for the fourth time in six games, Sheets appears to have moved into a bench role in the wake of the White Sox bringing aboard another lefty-hitting corner outfielder in Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte. Colas has gotten off to a slow start at the plate since being recalled, but he'll likely get some time following the All-Star break to try and right the ship since Sheets wasn't provided ample production in a strong-side platoon role. Since turning in back-to-back two-hit games in the middle of June, Sheets has gone 5-for-33 at the dish over his last 14 contests.

Sheets isn't in the White Sox's lineup Saturday against Oakland.

Left-hander Kyle Muller will take the mound for Oakland to begin Saturday's contest, so the left-handed Sheets will remain in the dugout. Yasmani Grandal will fill in as Chicago's designated hitter, allowing Seby Zavala to start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • White Sox's Gavin Sheets: Goes deep in loss

Sheets went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners.

Sheets opened the scoring in the fifth inning with a solo shot off Bryan Woo. This was Sheets' first multi-hit effort in June -- he had gone just 2-for-22 (.091) over his previous nine contests. The 27-year-old's slump has him down to a .229/.307/.410 slash line with eight homers, 23 RBI, 16 runs scored and two doubles through 52 games. Sheets has seen a majority of the time in right field lately, but Eloy Jimenez should return to that spot when he's ready to play the field, while Clint Frazier could also be a competitor for playing time.
