Pirates' Joe Perez: Joins up with Bucs
Perez signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Friday. The 23-year-old third baseman was dumped from Houston's 40-man roster and ultimately released a week later, but he quickly caught on with a new organization. Perez is expected to report to Triple-A Indianapolis and should handle a near-everyday role with the Pirates' top affiliate. Joe Perez: Becomes free agent
Perez was released by the Astros on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. A second-round pick in 2017, Perez ended up appearing in only one big-league game with the Astros. He's spent the entire season to date at Triple-A Sugar Land, slashing .255/.328/.399 with 10 homers and three steals in 87 games. Perez was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Perez was designated for assignment by the Astros on Tuesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. Astros' Joe Perez: Back in action for Double-A
Double-A Corpus Christi reinstated Perez (oblique) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Perez will return to Corpus Christi after he was sidelined for over two months while nursing an oblique injury. The 22-year-old struck out in his only major-league at-bat April 8 and has produced a .196 average with one homer, four RBI and four runs over 51 at-bats with Corpus Christi this season. Perez is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Corpus Christi with an undisclosed injury. Due to being on the 40-man roster entering the season, Perez made his big-league debut briefly earlier this season, but he was sent to Double-A back on April 18 and landed on the injured list retroactive to May 3. Quinn Priester's terrific start is for naught. Pirates are under .500 for the first time this season. They are 13-14.

Tellez doesn't touch first on one play, cuts off potential assist w/o getting trailing runner on another. Pirates are 13-13.
