Ober was efficient in turning in his second consecutive quality start, needing only 82 pitches to complete six innings. The right-hander got 14 swings and misses and was rewarded with his first win of the season. Since his disastrous, eight-run blowup against the Royals in his 2024 debut, Ober has allowed just two earned runs over 17 innings in his last three starts, with a 16:3 K:BB in that span. He tentatively lines up for a home matchup against the White Sox next week.

  Ober and the Twins won't face the Guardians on Sunday due to inclement weather in Minnesota, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The two teams will make up the game as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 9. As a result of the postponement, Minnesota is likely to push all five members of its rotation back a day in the schedule, so Ober's next start is expected to come Monday versus the Dodgers at Target Field.

  Ober gave up one run with seven strikeouts and no walks over three innings in Saturday's spring training loss to Philadelphia. He reached a carer-high 94.8 mph with his fastball, and Ober said he hopes to gain more velocity from offseason workouts, MLB.com reports. Ober, however, also reached 94 mph with his fastball last spring, according to the report, but averaged just 91.4 mph during the regular season. Still, his outing Saturday shows he's nearly in midseason form. While Ober may not have an overpowering fastball, it's offset by his outstanding control (5.0 percent walk rate) and above average off-speed pitches (slider, curve ball, change-up). He's set to be a vital part of Minnesota's rotation.

  Ober is being considered to start Saturday's Game 1 of the ALDS in Houston, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Joe Ryan was going to start a potential AL Wild Card Series Game 3 for the Twins, so he's also a candidate for Game 1 of the ALDS and perhaps the favorite for the start. Kenta Maeda is also in the mix. Ober wasn't even on the AL Wild Card Series roster because the team needed only three starters, but he told Hayes that the Twins "have dropped hints he'll pitch at some point" during the ALDS. Ober posted a 2.08 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings after rejoining the club Sept. 15 following a stint in the minors.
