• Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Notches another quality start

  Hancock (2-2) earned the win after he tossed six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out four batters in Seattle's 10-2 victory in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader with Colorado. Hancock had his start pushed back a couple days due to Friday's weather postponement and he impressed with the added rest. The right-hander limited the Rockies to just five baserunners while the only blemish on his line came in the bottom of the first inning when Elias Diaz ripped a two-RBI double. Hancock has produced back-to-back quality starts and he now owns a 6.10 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 15 punchouts over 20.2 innings in four outings this season. The 24-year-old is tentatively set to return to the mound Friday at home versus the Diamondbacks.

• Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Mariners-Rockies postponed Friday

  Hancock and the Mariners will not play Friday after their contest against the Rockies was postponed due to inclement weather, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday. Hancock and Dakota Hudson had been slated to start Friday but will be pushed back at least one day to Saturday.

• Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Knocked around for eight runs

  Hancock (1-1) took a bad loss Sunday against the Brewers, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out six over 3.1 innings. One positive to note for Hancock was that his six strikeouts doubled his previous career-best, as he has just a 14 percent strikeout rate over five starts. Sunday was also easily the roughest outing of his career. Eight of the 14 balls put in play against him were hard hit, which included two home runs. The 25-year-old will stay in the rotation for now and lines up for a home start against the Cubs in the upcoming week.

• Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Recalled from Triple-A

• Mariners' Emerson Hancock: No structural damage in shoulder

  Hancock, who isn't expected to pitch again this season due to a shoulder injury, has been diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus shoulder strain with no tear or structural damage, the team's official site reports. Hancock received a PRP injection in his shoulder Tuesday in an effort to speed up the healing process. The promising right-hander's recovery period is estimated to be 4-to-6 weeks from Aug. 20, the date he suffered the injury. At minimum, Hancock should be able to regain full health fairly early in the offseason, teeing up what will be a key spring training for him in 2024 as he gears up to potentially become a permanent fixture in the big-league rotation.

Now on the 60-day IL, the 24-year-old cannot return for the rest of the regular season. • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Possible waiver wire pickups

  You can't complain about a big-league debut in which a pitcher allows just two hits, even if he ends up with just as many walks as strikeouts (three). Nerves most certainly played a part, and Hancock did well to limit the Padres to an 83.6 mph average exit velocity while putting the ball on the ground 64.3 percent of the time. Strikeouts probably aren't going to be his game anyway seeing as he had about one per inning over his minor-league career, though his 13 percent swinging-strike rate at Double-A this year was pretty solid. He doesn't throw especially hard and doesn't have a wipeout pitch, but he could be a workhorse stabilizer type who still has a role in Fantasy. If he delivers in his two starts this week, the first being against the Royals, you might not get another chance at him.

  The Mariners selected Hancock's contract from Double-A Arkansas ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Padres at T-Mobile Park. The 24-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut Wednesday, stepping into the Seattle rotation as a replacement for Bryan Woo (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday. In order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Hancock, the Mariners designated left-hander Zach Muckenhirn for assignment. Hancock posted a strong 16.8 K-BB% in 21 starts at Arkansas this season and excelled at keeping the ball in the yard (0.83 HR/9), attributes that could allow him to find some success in his first taste of the majors. He may be worthy of a pickup on speculation, but managers in shallower leagues may want to observe Hancock's MLB debut from afar rather than including him in active lineups Wednesday.

According to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times, Hancock's promotion isn't expected to be made official until shortly before the Mariners' series finale with the Padres on Wednesday, when the right-hander will likely start in what would be his MLB debut. Bryan Woo had been lined up to take the hill Wednesday, so he could have his turn in the rotation skipped, or the Mariners may go with a six-man setup for a while. Hancock, 24, has submitted a 4.32 ERA and 107:38 K:BB over 98 innings covering 20 starts with Arkansas this season. He holds a 1.44 ERA and 26:4 K:BB across 25 frames in his last four outings, and the Mariners appear ready to see if Hancock can maintain his recent form in the big leagues as they look to continue a hot streak of their own.

  Hancock has generated a 5.92 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 62.1 innings over 14 starts with Double-A Arkansas, but he's posted three straight quality starts to push his record to 8-3. It's been a true feast-or-famine season for Hancock, whose contradictory set of metrics is due to four outings where he's allowed between six and nine earned runs. Otherwise, the right-hander, the sixth overall pick in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, has given up three earned runs or less in his other 10 starts, including a pair of blankings against Tulsa over five and six innings. Hancock has dealt with both shoulder and lat injuries over the past two seasons, but he's sporting a career-best 11.0 K/9, albeit alongside a career-high 4.6 BB/9. If he's able to maintain his current form, a move to Triple-A Tacoma later in the summer wouldn't be inconceivable.

He gave up one hit and issued one walk while striking out two in the 35-pitch outing. Making his first appearance for Everett since June 25 after having been shut down with a sore right shoulder, Hancock was eased back into action with a light workload. Hancock should ramp up his pitch count a bit in his subsequent starts, but the Mariners aren't likely to allow the 22-year-old to work deep into games the rest of the season, given his long-term importance to the organization.

  Hancock, the sixth overall selection in the 2020 first-year player draft, impressed over 26 pitches in a live batting practice session Friday at the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. The session was the right-hander's first time facing live hitters at the alternate site, and Hancock gave a good accounting of himself against some of his fellow top prospects. The 21-year-old elicited four groundballs and recorded one strikeout while facing the talented trio of Noelvi Marte, Alberto Rodriguez and Taylor Trammell in simulated situations, flashing some of the stuff that once had him pegged as a potential first overall pick. While the lack of a minor-league season this year certainly hasn't been ideal in terms of Hancock's development, the work he's getting in Tacoma appears to be serving him well.
