Wright was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation by Atlanta on Monday. It was reported Sunday that this move was coming and now it's official. Wright was given a cortisone injection back in January to combat soreness in his right shoulder and simply ran out of time in getting ramped up for the season. The expectation is that he will miss two turns before rejoining Atlanta's rotation, assuming all goes well on his rehab assignment. Jared Shuster and Dylan Dodd will both be in the rotation while Wright is out.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Kyle Wright: Opening season on IL
Atlanta is expected to place Wright (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list retroactive to March 27, but the right-hander is likely to miss only two turns through the rotation before being activated, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. After being shut down early in spring training with shoulder soreness and requiring an injection to alleviate the pain, Wright was finally cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut this past Monday. He's now back on a normal four-day rest schedule and built up to four innings in his second outing of the spring Saturday versus the Twins, but Wright has looked rusty between the two starts, yielding seven runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out four over 6.2 innings. Rather than rushing him to be ready for the start of the season, Atlanta will give Wright more time to build up his pitch count and hone his command. He's scheduled to make a minor-league spring training start this coming Thursday and then one final tune-up rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on April 4 before slotting back into Atlanta's rotation at some point during its second home series of the season April 10 through 12 versus the Reds. Wright's upcoming IL stint should allow rookies Jared Shuster and Dylan Dodd -- who had both been competing for the No. 5 starter's role -- to make at least two turns through the rotation before one of the two likely cedes his spot to the right-hander, who led the majors with 21 wins in 2022.... Braves' Kyle Wright: Missing first turn through rotation
Wright isn't in line to start any of Atlanta's first five games of the season, as the club wants to give him extra time to get ramped up due to him being delayed in spring training by a shoulder injury, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Wright hasn't suffered any setbacks in his recovery from the shoulder injury, but he was roughed up in both of his first two appearances of the spring after he was cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut last Monday. In his most recent outing Saturday, Wright stretched out to four innings but was tagged for three earned runs on five hits -- including two home runs -- and a walk over four innings. Because Dylan Dodd and Jared Shuster have both made strong cases for the Opening Day rotation while competing for the fifth starter's role, Atlanta plans to have both young hurlers make one turn through the rotation while Wright gets more time to build up his arm. Atlanta could still be earmarking Wright for a start in its third series of the season (April 6 through 9 versus San Diego), so the right-hander could avoid a stint on the injured list and still be included on the 26-man Opening Day roster even though he won't pitch in any of the first seven games.... Braves' Kyle Wright: Bumpy spring debut
Wright gave up four runs on five hits over 2.2 innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. He didn't walk or strike out a batter. Seeing his first game action of the spring after recovering from a shoulder issue, Wright got taken deep by Brandon Lowe in the first inning and Yandy Diaz in the second, but per Mark Bowman of MLB.com the right-hander's fastball touched 95 mph and he felt fine afterward. Wright will make one more Grapefruit League start before working a simulated game against minor-leaguers after camp breaks, and if he avoids any setbacks he won't miss a turn in the rotation to begin the season, although his workload could be capped in his first start.... Braves' Kyle Wright: Spring debut coming Monday
Wright (shoulder) told reporters that he's scheduled to start Monday's Grapefruit League game the Rays, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Wright has been able to face hitters, as Toscano notes, but this will be his first appearance in a spring training game in 2023. The right-hander was one of the biggest surprises in baseball last year with 21 wins, but he received a cortisone injection in January in his right shoulder and has been behind schedule. Assuming good health through the rest of camp, Wright should be ready to roll for the regular season, but he may not get a chance to pitch until the second series of the campaign.... See More ... Braves' Kyle Wright: Nearing Grapefruit League debut
Wright (shoulder) threw two innings Wednesday on a back field, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. The workout went really well, per manager Brian Snitker, and the next step for Wright could be his Grapefruit League debut. He's behind Atlanta's other projected starters after requiring a cortisone injection for his right shoulder back in January, but the hope is that the 27-year-old will be able to jump into the starting rotation in early April. Wright won 21 games in 2022 with a 3.19 ERA and 174:53 K:BB across 180.1 regular-season innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Still chance for Cardinals series
Wright said his shoulder "felt great" during his live batting practice session Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Last season's only 20-game winner, Wright received a cortisone injection in his shoulder in January and is behind schedule. However, he still thinks he has a chance to be ready for the team's second series of the regular season in St. Louis (April 3-5). Wright might throw 2-3 innings against minor leaguers next week in a final tuneup before he pitches in spring games.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Nearing spring debut
Wright (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday and live batting practice Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. If those workouts go off without a hitch, Wright should be able to make his Grapefruit League debut sometime next week. That would allow him to fit in three exhibition starts before camp breaks, and he could then feasibly take the ball in Atlanta's second regular-season series against the Cardinals. The 27-year-old right-hander has been working through a shoulder issue that popped up in January and required a cortisone injection.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Happy with bullpen session
Wright (shoulder) was encouraged by how Friday's bullpen session went, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Wright threw 23 fastballs and wound up unintentionally surpassing the 85 mph mark he was targeting for much of the session. It was his first regular bullpen session of the spring as he works his way back from right shoulder discomfort, and the right-hander said his "arm felt as fresh as it's been in a while." While Wright wasn't ready to definitively say he'll be ready for his first regular-season rotation turn, he appears to be on track.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Slated for bullpen session
Wright (shoulder) is on track to throw a bullpen session Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Wright threw off a mound earlier this week with the catcher moved up closer. That went well, so he's been cleared to throw a regular bullpen session Friday. Wright received a cortisone injection for his pitching shoulder in January, which has put him behind schedule to begin camp. It's not clear when he might be ready for spring games, but at this point Atlanta is hopeful he'll be part of its Opening Day rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Plays catch Tuesday
Wright (shoulder) played catch Tuesday, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Wright received a cortisone injection in January to help push through a bit of right shoulder discomfort and is currently behind the other pitchers at Atlanta's camp in Florida, but the expectation is that the 27-year-old will be ready for the beginning of the 2023 regular season. He broke out to the tune of a 21-5 record, 3.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 174:53 K:BB over 180.1 innings (30 starts) last year.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Likely ready for start of season
Wright (shoulder) told reporters on Monday that he expects to be ready for the start of the 2023 season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. Wright received a cortisone injection in January, which put him behind schedule. The 27-year-old won't be rushed, and Bowman notes that he likely won't make any starts during the first couple weeks of Grapefruit League action. Wright won a league-high 21 games in 2022, but fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on his progress this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Picks up league-leading 21st win
Wright (21-5) earned the win against the Mets on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one over five innings. Wright picked up his league-leading 21st win Saturday, tossing 62 of 87 pitches for strikes. He limited the damage to just two runs despite allowing eight baserunners and striking out only three Mets batters. Atlanta seems to be limiting Wright's innings lately, as he has completed six innings once since Sept. 1. The righty finishes the regular season with a 3.19 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.... See More ... Braves' Kyle Wright: First pitcher to 20 wins
Wright (20-5) gave up two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings to earn the win in a 6-3 victory over the Phillies on Saturday. Wright held the Phillies scoreless into the sixth inning until Bryce Harper took him deep for a two-run shot. Nevertheless, Wright received enough run support and lasted long enough on 97 pitches to earn his 20th win of the season. Wright is the first MLB pitcher to reach 20 wins this year, and it appears that he may finish the season as the only hurler to reach that important milestone. He is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Mets.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Picks up 19th win
Wright (19-5) allowed two runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings to earn the win over the Nationals on Monday. He struck out seven. Wright has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, and he made his layup at home against the Nats to continue his breakout campaign. No other pitcher in baseball has more than 17 wins, so Wright has a real shot to be the first and only pitcher to reach 20 wins in 2022. The right-hander has had a couple hiccups in the second half where you wouldn't expect them, but regardless he's 8-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 10 starts since the All-Star break.... Braves' Kyle Wright: Tallies 18th win
Wright (18-5) earned the win during Tuesday's 5-1 victory over San Francisco, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Wright surrendered one run on two hits in the first inning and loaded the bases in the second but proceeded to face the minimum over the next 10 batters and fell in line for his MLB-leading 18th victory when Atlanta took the lead in the third. It was a nice rebound from eight runs in four innings during his last start. Wright carries a 3.18 ERA into his next outing, currently scheduled to come early next week against Washington.... Braves' Kyle Wright: Struggles versus Oakland
Wright pitched four innings, giving up eight runs on five hits and three walks while hitting two batters and striking out four in Tuesday's win over the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision. Wright had his worst performance of the season Tuesday, giving up a season-high eight runs and matching his shortest outing of the year. He surrendered two home runs after allowing one total in his previous four outings, all of which were quality starts as well. The poor performance raised Wright's ERA from 2.85 to 3.23 over 158.2 frames in 26 outings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which tentatively lines up for Monday at San Francisco.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Notches league-best 17th win
Wright (17-5) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings. Wright completed seven scoreless frames for the second straight contest, and he consequently took over the major-league lead with his 17th victory. The right-hander allowed at least one baserunner in six of his seven frames but didn't give up any extra-base hits and was aided by a pair of double plays. Wright has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, supplementing his league-best win total with a 2.85 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 150:43 K:BB over 154.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Blanks Bucs for 16th win
Wright (16-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in a 14-2 rout of the Pirates. He struck out eight. He only faced any kind of threat in the third inning after issuing a two-out walk followed by an Oneil Cruz single, but Kevin Newman lined out straight back to Wright to end the frame. The right-hander generated 15 swinging strikes among his 73 pitches en route to his third straight quality start and his seventh in his last eight outings. Wright will take a 2.99 ERA and 144:41 K:BB through 147.2 innings into his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kyle Wright: Strikes out seven in win
Wright (15-5) earned the win against the Astros on Friday, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking one over six innings. Wright continued his breakout season Friday, throwing 61 of 84 pitches for strikes and striking out seven Astros batters, which is impressive considering the Astros have the second fewest strikeouts in the league. The righty turned in his sixth quality start in his last seven games. He will take a 3.14 ERA into his next appearance.... See More ... See Less
