  • Diamondbacks' Cole Sulser: Moves to 60-day IL

The Diamondbacks transferred Sulser (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. Sulser's move to the 60-day IL removes him from the 40-man roster and clears room for two new additions for the Arizona bullpen, Jose Ruiz and Peter Solomon. The right-hander is dealing with a right shoulder strain and isn't expected to return to the Arizona bullpen until June.

  • Diamondbacks' Cole Sulser: Placed on 15-day IL

Sulser was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to April 6, with a right shoulder strain. Luis Frias is up from Triple-A Reno to fill the vacant spot in Arizona's bullpen. Sulser, who last pitched Monday, has allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks over 4.1 innings this season. There is no estimated timeline for his return.

  • Diamondbacks' Cole Sulser: Makes D-backs debut

Sulser allowed two runs on two hits and one walk over one inning in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers. Sulser was brought in after Los Angeles chased starter Zac Gallen with two outs in the fifth inning. Pitching roles in the Diamondbacks' bullpen remains somewhat of mystery, but it looks like Sulser could serve in a middle-relief role for now.

  • Diamondbacks' Cole Sulser: Claimed by Arizona

Sulser was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Sulser finished the season at Triple-A for the Marlins, and the organization opted not to keep him on the 40-man roster through the offseason. The 32-year-old had a 5.29 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 34 innings last year and should have the chance to earn a spot in Arizona's Opening Day bullpen during spring training.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Demoted to minors

Sulser was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sulser has two saves and six holds this season, but he'll head to the minors Sunday with 10 runs allowed in his past 11 outings. Overall this year he has a 5.29 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 34 innings.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Comes off IL

The Marlins reinstated Sulser (lat) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Fellow reliever Parker Bugg was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Sulser, who has been on the shelf since June 15 with a right lat strain. After producing a 3.86 ERA and 1.29 WHIP to go with six holds and two saves in 26 appearances for Miami prior to landing on the IL, Sulser will likely settle into a setup or middle-relief role now that he's healthy again.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Sent to 60-day injured list

Sulser (lat) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Sulser is in the midst of a rehab assignment, but he has already been out more than 60 days, so the Marlins were able to free up a spot on the 40-man roster without delaying his return. He will likely be ready to rejoin the big club at some point before August comes to a close.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Embarks on rehab assignment

Sulser (lat) made his first rehab appearance Tuesday for Single-A Jupiter, striking out the side over his lone inning of work. The appearance with the Single-A club marked Sulser's first at any level since June 12. Before he comes off the Marlins' 15-day injured list and rejoins the big-league bullpen, Sulser will likely need to make a few more appearances in the minors.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Throws off mound

Sulser (lat) threw 10 pitches off a mound recently, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Sulser resumed playing catch in late June and took another step in his recovery process by throwing off a mound. Although he had a limited pitch count and didn't throw at full strength, he'll presumably keep working on building back up. The right-hander has been on the injured list for a month, so he'll require a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Resumes playing catch

Sulser (lat) has resumed playing catch, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Sulser landed on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain June 15 and has been cleared to resume a throwing program just over a week later. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return to game action, but a better idea of his timetable should come into focus once he resumes mound work.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Goes on IL

Sulser was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right lat strain, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. In a corresponding move, the Marlins called up Daniel Castano from Triple-A Jacksonville in advance of his scheduled start in Wednesday's series finale in Philadelphia. Sulser, who has two saves to his name this season, had settled into more of a setup role in June with Tanner Scott notching each of Miami's last four saves. Scott should gain further job security with Sulser out of commission for the time being.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Credited with win Friday

Sulser (1-3) picked up the win in Friday's victory over the Astros, giving up one hit and one walk over 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out three. The Marlins never trailed in the game and the right-hander didn't take the mound until the seventh inning, but with starter Pablo Lopez (wrist) not lasting at least five frames, the official scorer judged Sulser to be the most effective of Miami's relievers and credited him with the win. The 32-year-old remains in the high-leverage mix for the Marlins despite unimpressive numbers, collecting two saves and six holds through 22.2 innings with a 3.97 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Melts down again Wednesday

Sulser was charged with his third blown save of the season after allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit while failing to record an out in the Marlins' 13-12 loss in 10 innings in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Sulser has technically blown two save chances in a row, though his first one came in the seventh inning of Monday's 7-1 loss, when he gave up four runs and failed to record an out while entering the contest with a 1-0 lead. The Marlins' closing picture had already been a hazy one entering the week, but Sulser's consecutive rough outings could prompt manager Don Mattingly to go in a different direction the next time a save opportunity is available.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Collects second save

Sulser gave up a hit and a walk while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his second save of the season in a 4-1 win over Atlanta. The right-hander made things interesting, putting two runners aboard with two outs, but Sulser was able to strike out Austin Riley to preserve the victory. The back of the Marlins' bullpen remains a mess, as Anthony Bender (back) is on the shelf and Dylan Floro continues to work in lower-leverage spots despite a streak of five straight scoreless appearance. Remarkably, this was the first save by any Miami reliever in the month of May. Given Sulser's effectiveness this season, his 2.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB through 18 innings might be good enough to earn him further chances in the ninth inning.

  • Marlins' Cole Sulser: Dealt to Miami

Sulser and Tanner Scott were traded from the Orioles to the Marlins on Sunday in exchange for Antonio Velez and Kevin Guerrero, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Sulser was slated to compete for closing duties in Baltimore to begin the 2022 campaign, but he'll now attempt to carve out a role in the Marlins' bullpen. The right-hander converted eight of 11 save chances last year and posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 63.1 innings across 60 relief appearances. The Marlins have Dylan Floro (arm), Anthony Bender and Anthony Bass available as late relievers, but Sulser should be in the mix for some late-inning work in 2022.

  • Orioles' Cole Sulser: Set to pitch Sunday

Sulser (illness) is scheduled to pitch Sunday versus the Tigers, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. A stomach bug will end up costing Sulser only a couple of days. The right-hander will be making his second Grapefruit League appearance of the season. He's expected to compete for closing duties with the Orioles this year.

  • Orioles' Cole Sulser: Dealing with stomach bug

Sulser didn't pitch Thursday versus the Red Sox due to a stomach illness, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Sulser was scheduled for his second appearance of spring training Thursday, but that'll have to wait a couple more days. The right-hander is expected to be part of the Orioles' closer committee this season. He has previous experience closing -- he's logged 13 saves in 79 appearances over the last two seasons. Sulser pitched to a 2.70 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 73:23 K:BB across 63.1 innings last season.

  • Orioles' Cole Sulser: Picks up eighth save

Sulser earned the save by firing a perfect inning against the Red Sox on Tuesday. Susler retired all three of his batters in 12 pitches to tally his eighth save of the year. With Tyler Wells (shoulder inflammation) done for the season, Susler looks to be the favorite for ninth-inning duties in Baltimore. He's collected two wins and a pair of saves this month.

  • Orioles' Cole Sulser: In line for saves?

With Tyler Wells (shoulder inflammation) done for the season, Sulser seems like the most likely candidate to get saves for Baltimore down the stretch. He has a 1.34 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 11 strikeouts, two wins, two saves and three holds over his last 13.1 innings and currently boasts a nine-inning scoreless streak. Wells got two saves this week prior to landing on the injured list. The Orioles have a three-game homestand against Boston next week before finishing the season with a three-game road series in Toronto.

  • Orioles' Cole Sulser: Picks up fifth win

Sulser (5-4) struck out two in two perfect innings to earn the win Thursday versus the Yankees. The 31-year-old kept the game tied in the ninth and 10th innings before Baltimore walked it off on a bases-loaded Austin Hays single. Sulser has pitched five consecutive scoreless innings after a shaky run of performances when the calendar flipped from August to September. For the year, he owns a 2.98 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 71:22 K:BB in 57.1 innings as one of Baltimore's most effective high-leverage arms.
