Short went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run, two walks and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Angels. Short had gone 0-for-11 across his previous seven games, though he had a steal in that span. The infielder made his impact early Saturday, with his homer coming in the second inning. He's up to a career-high seven long balls while adding 33 RBI, 16 runs scored, five steals, nine doubles and a .215/.299/.361 slash line over 234 plate appearances in a part-time role.... Tigers' Zack Short: Starting at shortstop
Short (forearm) will bat ninth and play shortstop Saturday against the White Sox. Short hadn't seen the field since getting hit by a pitch Wednesday against the Yankees, though he doesn't have an everyday role at the moment, so his absence may not have been injury-related. He hasn't done much to stake a claim for more at-bats down the stretch, posting a .442 OPS in the last month and a .645 OPS on the year.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Gets X-rays on forearm
Short received X-rays on his right forearm/wrist after getting hit by a pitch during Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Short indicated that he was feeling fine after Wednesday's contest, so the X-rays were likely precautionary. More details on his status will be provided ahead of Thursday's series finale. Fantasy managers should consider Short day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Belts solo homer
Short went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's extra-inning win over the Yankees. Short put up the first run of the contest in the fifth inning, swatting a solo shot to left field off Clarke Schmidt. The shortstop hit three long balls over his first 29 at-bats this season but has gone deep just three times across 76 at-bats since. Short had been struggling prior to Thursday, going 2-for-23 with no RBI over his previous 14 games while working mostly in a bench role.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Drives in three off bench
Short went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in Wednesday's win over the Pirates. He also stole a base. Short didn't enter the contest until the fourth inning, when he pinch hit for Akil Baddoo. He wasted no time making an impact, driving in two on a single in his first at-bat. Short still profiles as more of a utility player at this point who can't be counted on for a consistent fantasy impact, which is reflected in his .673 OPS across 72 games.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Goes deep in win
Short hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat during Monday's 5-1 win over the Giants. Short entered the game in the top of the eighth inning, taking over at third base for Nick Maton. He then went deep in the bottom half of the frame, giving him five home runs this season. That's only one away from his career high, and Short reached a career high in RBI with 22. The infielder had six home runs and 20 RBI across 61 games back in 2021, then appeared in just six games for the Tigers last year.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Enters lineup Sunday
Short is starting at second base and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Mariners. Short will make his first start after the All-Star break, with Zach McKinstry moving over to left field and Nick Maton starting at third base. The Tigers seem to have Spencer Torkelson and Javier Baez locked in at first and shortstop, respectively, but the other two infield positions are a bit more fluid. Short profiles more as a bench option, though he has a chance to see extended run at second if he heats up at the plate. He's batting just .211, however, and hasn't proven to be a dynamic offensive player to this point in his MLB career.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Retreats to bench
Short is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Short had started in four of the Tigers' previous five games, but he's unlikely to stick around as a regular in the lineup with Detroit recently welcoming two everyday players in Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo back from the injured list. Second base likely represents Short's most realistic path to playing time, but Andy Ibanez appears to be the Tigers' preferred option at the position at the moment.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Gets third straight start
Short will start at second base and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Athletics. Short will pick up his third consecutive start at second base after reaching base twice in seven plate appearances in the first two games of the series with Oakland. Though his playing time has been trending up of late, Short will likely find himself as one of the odd men out of the lineup by the weekend, when Detroit is expected to get two regulars back from the injured list in Akil Baddoo (quadriceps) and Riley Greene (fibula).... Tigers' Zack Short: On bench for matinee game
Short is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with Atlanta. Andy Ibanez will step in at the keystone in place of Short, who went 5-for-19 with a double and five RBI while starting at second base in five of the Tigers' previous six games. Short will most likely be back in the lineup for the nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Sitting out Sunday
Short is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Short will hit the bench for the series finale after starting at second base in each of the past four games while going 3-for-14 with a double and three RBI. Nick Maton will step in for Short at the keystone.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Losing out on playing time
Short is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. Now on the bench for the third time in four games, Short's temporary run as the Tigers' preferred option at second base appears to have come to an end. Andy Ibanez has occupied the keystone in each of the three games that Short has sat out, and Ibanez looks as though he may see the bulk of the starts at the position while Zack McKinstry is seeing most of his opportunities in right field these days to aid a banged-up Detroit outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Gets fifth straight start
Short will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Short will stick in the lineup for the fifth game in a row, and after producing a 1.012 OPS over the past four contests, he looks like he'll stick around in a near-everyday role while the Tigers deal with a host of injuries. With outfielders Riley Greene (fibula) and Matt Vierling (back) both landing on the 10-day injured list within the past two days, Zach McKinstry is expected to see more time in right field moving forward, opening up room in the infield for Short. The 28-year-old Short will likely rotate between second and third base, with his position depending on whether Nick Maton is included in the lineup on a given day.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Big game off bench
Short went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Royals. Short pinch hit for Akil Baddoo in the sixth inning when Kansas City turned to lefty Josh Taylor. Short made the decision pay off, as he launched his second home run of the season with two runners on to put the Tigers up 4-1. The utility infielder is now batting .280 with a .939 OPS through 16 games, but he's unlikely to be a regular fantasy contributor unless he starts to see more playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Pops first homer of year
Short went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles. Called up Saturday morning to be the 27th man on the roster for the twin bill, Short got the start at his namesake position and batted ninth in the matinee. The 27-year-old rose to the occasion, taking DL Hall deep in the eighth inning for his first big-league homer since August of 2021, and after Short came off the bench in the nightcap to draw a walk and score a run, Detroit rewarded him by keeping him in the majors and sending Tyler Nevin back to Triple-A Toledo in his place. Short isn't going to unseat Javier Baez, but he could carve out a utility role -- in 21 games for Toledo prior to his promotion, he saw action at second base, center field and left field in addition to his natural position at shortstop.... Tigers' Zack Short: Added as 27th man Saturday
Short will be the 27th man for the Tigers in Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Short is even starting at shortstop -- and batting ninth -- in the early tilt versus the O's and right-hander Dean Kremer. He'll head back to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Moves to minors
The Tigers optioned Short to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. Short will miss out on a spot on the Opening Day roster, with Detroit seemingly set to begin the season with Ryan Kreidler and the newly acquired Zach McKinstry as its reserve infielders. The 27-year-old Short, who posted a .730 OPS in Grapefruit League action, should be able to play on a near-everyday basis in Toledo.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Sent to minors
Short was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Short was promoted by the Tigers last week and appeared in four games during his brief time in the majors, and he went 0-for-6 with a walk, two RBI and three strikeouts. The 27-year-old will head back to the minors with Spencer Torkelson and Ryan Kreidler set to be called up Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Starting at second base
Short is starting at second base and batting ninth Tuesday against the Giants. After being recalled Tuesday, Short will draw the start at second base in place of Jonathan Schoop (ankle), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. Short will be in the Tigers' starting lineup for the second time this season.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Zack Short: Called up Tuesday
Short was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. Short will return to the big leagues after being sent down Aug. 3, replacing Jonathan Schoop (ankle) on the active roster after Schoop was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Short has gone 0-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in two games with the Tigers this year.... See More ... See Less

Jason Beck@beckjason17H agoTigers and Royals tried to get five innings for an official game tonight thru hell or high water. Eventually, the water got too high. When Tyler Nevin did the hockey-themed HR celebration in Tigers dugout and got a giant splash of water, it was a bad sign. So we're delayed.
