  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homers in three-hit game

Gelof went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three total RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-3 win over the Angels. Gelof popped a solo shot in the first inning and then contributed RBI singles in the eighth and ninth to help the Athletics pull off a comeback win. The second baseman had gone just 5-for-29 over his previous eight games before Saturday's three-hit effort. He's up to 14 homers, 32 RBI, 40 runs scored, 14 stolen bases and a .272/.342/.513 slash line over 68 contests this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Productive in Wednesday's loss

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Mariners. He took George Kirby deep in the fourth inning to get Oakland on the board, but Gelof's squad was already down 2-0 at that point. The rookie second baseman is batting .310 (22-for-71) in September as he puts the finishing touches on an impressive MLB debut that has seen him rack up 13 homers and 13 steals in just 59 games.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Earns 12th steal

Gelof went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Mariners. Gelof has continued to hit well in September, going 18-for-63 (.286) with two home runs and three steals over 16 contests this month. The second baseman has picked up two of those steals over his last four games. He's up to a .269/.339/.520 slash line with 12 homers, 12 thefts, 26 RBI and 34 runs scored through 57 games this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Registers 11th steal

Gelof went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Padres. Gelof recorded his first game this month with just one hit -- he had seven multi-hit efforts and five hitless games to begin September. His power has taken a dip this month with six doubles and one home run over 13 contests, and this was his second steal in that span. Gelof is at a .268/.335/.516 slash line with 11 homers, 11 steals, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored through 54 games this season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Reaches double-digit steal mark

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in an extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays on Monday. Gelof's third multi-hit effort in the last four games included his 10th stolen base in the first 11 attempts of his career. The rookie's pair of knocks Monday were both singles, but Gelof has impressively laced more than half (25) of his 48 hits thus far for extra bases, making him an extremely well-rounded fantasy contributor right from the onset of his career.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: On base thrice in win

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs in a win over the Angels on Sunday. Gelof played some small ball Sunday and teed up a couple of teammates for RBI with his pair of singles. The rookie recently went through a brief 1-for-18 funk over a five-game span, but he's bounced back with a pair of two-hit tallies in his last three contests and carries an impressive .266/.330/.532 slash line across his first 191 big-league plate appearances.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Multi-RBI effort in win

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a two-RBI double, another two-bagger and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday. Gelof's fourth-inning two-bagger knocked in Esteury Ruiz and Jonah Bride to cap off a five-run outburst. The rookie pushed his RBI total to an impressive 23 with the timely double and also snapped a rare 1-for-18 slump that had encompassed his last five games. Gelof has demonstrated a welcome knack for clutch hitting early in his career, posting a .905 OPS across his first 43 plate appearances with men in scoring position.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Continues solid rookie campaign

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the White Sox in an 8-5 win Thursday. Gelof's two-run shot in the seventh inning was a big one, as it broke what had been a 5-5 tie. It was the rookie's 10th long ball in just his 35th major-league game -- no other player in Athletics history has achieved that feat, per the team's PR department. Gelof has added 24 runs, 11 doubles, 19 RBI, eight thefts and a .294/.360/.610 slash line while providing considerable excitement for what has otherwise been a dismal season in Oakland.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Picks up eighth steal

Gelof went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Royals. Gelof continues to do it all for the Athletics. He's gone 23-for-59 (.390) with four home runs and three steals over his last 15 games. The second baseman is up to eight thefts, nine homers, 17 RBI, 23 runs scored and a steady .305/.373/.617 slash line through 33 contests this season, cementing himself firmly as a starter and the No. 2 hitter in the lineup.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Possible waiver wire pickups

I wrote extensively about Gelof in the last edition of Waiver Wire, so I want to be careful not to belabor the point here. But he went 4 for 5 with two doubles and a stolen base Wednesday and remains one of the most viewed players in CBS Sports leagues. It's clear he's hot to begin his major-league career, and there are reasons to believe it's not all fake. For starters, he's fast enough to keep running at the rate he has. Moreover, his line-drive, fly-ball and pull rates are all high, which is the way to maximize lower-quality contact. But he doesn't have a lot of raw power and strikes out too much considering. It's possible you've missed his best work already, but there's no denying he demands to be picked up now. And hey, Matt McLain has made a similar profile work.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Possible waiver wire pickups

Gelof's arrival for the start of the second half was overshadowed by Tyler Soderstrom's, but it's no contest which has been more valuable in Fantasy Baseball so far. With two more home runs Sunday, Gelof is up to eight to go along with six stolen bases in just 105 plate appearances. His Triple-A output was stellar as well, albeit in a hitter's haven in Las Vegas. He's no longer in such a venue nor getting much help from his supporting cast, but he's done well to carry himself so far. There are reasons for concern, such as a bad strikeout rate and even worse zone contact rate, and his high-end exit velocities are rather uninspiring. With high fly-ball, line-drive and pull rates, though, it may just be that he angles the ball in a way that's optimized for damage. He's hot right now, if nothing else, but don't assume it'll last forever.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Homers twice Sunday

Gelof went 4-for-5 with two home runs in Sunday's 8-7 loss against the Nationals. Gelof opened the scoring with a solo home run off Trevor Williams in the first inning before adding a second long ball in the fifth. The 23-year-old second-baseman is up to eight homers this season, with three coming in his last four games. Gelof's now slashing .281/.343/.635 with 18 runs scored, 13 RBI and six stolen bases across 105 plate appearances in an impressive rookie campaign.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Thrives in Sunday's win

Gelof went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs in a win over the Giants on Sunday. Gelof authored one of a trio of three-hit efforts for the Athletics on the afternoon and his fourth multi-hit tally in the last seven games overall. The rookie has been as good as anticipated following his promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas, and he's opened August by going 7-for-18 with Sunday's double, two solo home runs, a pair of walks, Sunday's steal and four total runs over his first five games of the month.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Finding power groove

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers. Gelof homered for the third time in his last four games, though he's also struck out eight times without a walk in that span. The second baseman is already up to four homers in his first 15 major-league contests. He's batting .237 with seven RBI, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases. While a 32.8 percent strikeout rate is too lofty for long-term success, his mix of power and speed could be intriguing in many fantasy formats.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Picks up third steal

Gelof went 0-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Giants. Gelof's gone hitless in just three of his first 10 major-league games, with his 0-fer Tuesday ending a modest four-game streak. The second baseman was able to pick up his third steal and his first since he swiped two bags July 15. He's batting .250 with a home run, three RBI and six runs scored while often batting first or second in the Athletics' weak-hitting lineup.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Hits first major-league homer

Gelof went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Astros. Gelof padded the Athletics' lead in the seventh inning with his first major-league homer, which came in his eighth game. He's done a lot of other things right so far, racking up three doubles, a triple and two stolen bases while working as the primary second baseman since his July 14 debut, though he's also added a 4:9 BB:K. Trimming the strikeout rate will likely be a key to his fantasy usefulness, though his speed is already showing up after he stole 20 bases in 69 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: On base thrice in loss

Gelof went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run in a loss to the Astros on Friday. Gelof worked out of the No. 2 spot in the order for the third time in his first seven games and did a good job getting on base for the heart of the Athletics' lineup. Jordan Diaz's bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning resulted in Gelof crossing the plate with the fourth run of his nascent career. Gelof has gotten on base in six of his first seven contests and has already generated a trio of extra-base hits, although he's still in search of his first home run.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Swipes two bags Saturday

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a triple, two stolen bases and two runs in a loss to the Twins on Saturday. A day after lacing an RBI double in his big-league debut, Gelof had an even more impactful extra-base hit with his third-inning triple. The rookie then made the most of reaching via a fielder's choice groundout in the sixth, recording swipes of both second and third base -- the latter on a double steal in conjunction with Jace Peterson -- and subsequently coming home on a Nick Allen sacrifice fly. Gelof's early success is a potential boon for both the frequently run-starved Athletics and fantasy managers, as he's already proven capable of contributing across the board offensively.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Makes impact in debut

Gelof, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in his big-league debut against the Twins on Friday. The 23-year-old prospect got his big-league career off to a noteworthy start by delivering an RBI double in his second plate appearance. Gelof had been running hot at the plate in Las Vegas with a .300 average and .921 OPS through 68 games, and he should get an extended look against big-league arms during the second half of the season.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Promotion official

Gelof's contract was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Friday's game against the Twins. Gelof, who is widely viewed to be Oakland's second baseman of the future, should play pretty regularly now that he's officially on the active roster. The righty-hitting 23-year-old slashed .304/.401/.529 with 12 home runs, 20 steals and a 27.9 percent strikeout rate in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. A .410 BABIP propped up his batting average, but Gelof should at least chip in stolen bases and occasional power as a rookie.
