Rangers' Dustin Harris: Scratched with oblique soreness
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that Harris was scratched from the lineup for Thursday's Cactus League game against the Brewers due to "a little soreness in the oblique area," Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Harris, who has gone 3-for-10 with a double and two RBI through his first five spring training games, was slated to start in left field and bat seventh Thursday before he developed the oblique issue. Though Bochy seemed to downplay any concern about the injury, given the tendency of oblique issues to linger, it wouldn't be surprising if Harris was held out for the next several days. Harris was a standout performer between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2023 and already possesses a spot on the 40-man roster, but with fellow prospects Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford seemingly ahead of him in the outfield pecking order, Harris is likely to return to Triple-A Round Rock to begin the 2024 season.... Rangers' Dustin Harris: Promoted to Triple-A
Harris was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Harris had a slow April for Double-A Frisco but had an .827 OPS with 11 steals over the last month for the RoughRiders. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two additional runs scored in his first game with the Express.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Opening season at Double-A
The Rangers optioned Harris to Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.
Texas initially planned to have Harris report to Triple-A Round Rock after he was optioned out of big-league camp earlier this month, but he'll end up making a return trip to Frisco, where he spent the entire 2022 campaign. The 23-year-old outfielder, who was added to the 40-man roster over the winter, likely won't have to wait long to get his first taste of Triple-A. He was productive over his 86 games with Frisco a season ago, slashing .259/.346/.485 with 18 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 387 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Added to 40-man roster
Harris was added to the Rangers' 40-man roster Tuesday.
A 23-year-old left fielder who can also play first base, Harris' bat really needs to live up to its billing if he is to make it as an everyday player. He hit .257/.346/.471 with 17 home runs, 19 steals and a 19.4 percent strikeout rate in 85 games at Double-A before a knee injury put an end to his season. Harris should open the year at Triple-A.... Rangers' Dustin Harris: Likely done for season
Harris (wrist) won't require surgery but isn't expected to return to action for Double-A Frisco this year, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
The 23-year-old landed on the shelf with a sprained left wrist Aug. 10, and he isn't expected back with the RoughRiders in 2022. One of the Rangers' top prospects, Harris should finish the year with a .259/.346/.485 slash line with 18 home runs, 68 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 86 games at Double-A. He could still be available to play in the Fall League.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Placed on injured list
Harris was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday. He was seen with a brace on his wrist from an injury suffered Saturday, Michael Tepid of Loonestarball.com reports.
Harris is hitting .259 with 18 home runs and 19 stolen bases with a .831 OPS in Double-A in 86 games this season. He's a dark-horse candidate to be called up to the majors in September, so the hope will be that this injury doesn't sidetrack the rest of his season.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Showing power, speed in Double-A
Harris has a .259/.349/.475 batting line with 15 homers, 17 steals and a 39:69 BB:K through 76 games for Double-A Frisco.
A high-average hitter at his prior minor-league stops, Harris has been held back by a .286 BABIP this year, which is quite modest by his standards -- it's never been below .329 at any previous level. Though his strikeout rate is up a bit this year, it's still more than palatable at 20.1 percent, and he's been particularly impressive in that regard recently -- Harris has just seven strikeouts (and 11 walks) in his last 81 plate appearances. With the Rangers in full-blown rebuilding mode, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 22-year-old get a crack at the majors at some point this year, but he's not currently on the 40-man, so the club may be content to let him ride out this season in the minors with an eye on contending for a role next year. The question will be where he fits in, as Harris has mostly played left field this season but could also profile at first base.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Launches two in win
Harris went 3-for-4 with two home runs, six RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored for Double-A Frisco on Saturday.
Harris, who swatted 20 homers in two minor-league stops in 2021, is having quite a week for the RoughRiders. The power prospect has mashed five home runs in 24 at-bats over the last five games. He leads Frisco with 30 RBI and is second with seven home runs.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Big night for Midland
Harris went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI for Double-A Frisco on Thursday.
Batting third in the order, Harris hit the second of his team's two homers in the ninth inning, when the RoughRiders plated all of their runs in a 6-1 win. The outfield prospect has moved beyond a slow start at Double-A and is slashing .316/.369/.474 with two long balls, 13 RBI, nine runs and three steals in 15 games.... See More ... See Less
Rangers' Dustin Harris: Cool start in Double-A
Harris has a six-game hitting streak going at Double-A Frisco, but he's still sitting on a modest .258/.294/.290 line to open the campaign.
The power he showed in the minors last year has yet to make an appearance in Double-A, and Harris is also sitting on career-worst walk and strikeout rates (6.1 and 29.4 percent, respectively) early on. That said, his spectacular 2021 results -- .327/.401/.542 with 20 homers and 25 steals in 110 games across Low-A and High-A -- certainly earned him some patience. There's no need to downgrade his stock based on these early returns.... See More ... See Less
